well.. being old as hell pays off.. i remember when godzilla vs mechagodzilla was being advertised as vs. the bionic monster (75-76).. then it became the cosmic monster when i saw it on tv (probably 79-80) then mechagodzilla when released on video..
@snakes3425 Actually Godzilla on Monster Island and Godzilla vs. The Cosmic Monster were terribly re-edited versions of the original films. I remember having the Cosmic Monster on VHS a very long time ago.
Wait! The announcer lied about Godzilla on Monster Island! "The most monster to appear on screen at one time!" No Destroy all Monsters had more and Ghidrah the 3 headed monster had the same amount as Godzilla on Monster Island!
Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Godzilla vs Megalon was released by Cinema Shares in 1976. They then released Godzilla on Monster Island and Godzilla vs The Bionic/Cosmic Monster in 1977. So this must have been 1978 after the films finished thier original theatrical runs. They probably gave movie theaters the chance to rerelease them as a 3 for 1 deal.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was 6 years old when they released these as a triple feature. To see it at the drive-in or an indoor theater would've been a great experience. Sadly to say... the only Japanese G I got to see at the theaters was G 2000 and that awful Sony version in 1998. I hope this new Godzilla movie from Legendary Pictures will do a better version of the Big B than what Sony did. I bet it would've been awesome to see "Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster" on the big screen.
@redcorncob I'm right there with you. It would have been such an incredible cinematic experience to see Godzilla and King Ceasar kick the hell out of Mecha-Godzilla, or to see "Godzilla vs. Gigan" (one of my personal favorites) upon the big screen. Luckily, I did get to see "Godzilla 2000" and "Godzilla; Final Wars" in theatres!
but i never saw this triple bill.. id have shot someone in the knee with an arrow to go see it
