@Galley415 GM was going to use the LS7 as the base for the ZR1 engine. However, because it is a 428 cubic inch small block it had too thin of cylinder bores to handle boost. So GM created the LS9 6.2 litre v8 from the LS3 6.2.

(exactly at) 0:20 he launches 0:30 he hits 120mph. that´s insane. would have gone a little faster tho if the launch controll launched at 2.5-3k rpm. the ZR1 is one hell of a torque machine so a 4000rpm launch way too much considering it´s still a rear wheel driven 54f/46r car. if it had its LS9 in the rear the launch controll would do one hell of a great job. well.. but then again... a simple drag radial will do the trick as well :) nice vid - cheers.

@Profizzel There's no wishing with dragonballs here. It's as fast as it is because of carefully selected parts, sick tuning, light weight, and good driving (I'll take credit for that, haha). I have beaten up on plenty of Vette's and I enjoy a little trash talk here and there, but deep down I really like and respect them. Can't really say the same for their owners, but this owner seems to be quite an exception to the norm - he drives his car the way it is meant to be driven.
@242DEE Yeah, just a hair cheaper than a ZR1, haha. That's the only problem with my car is that it completely ruins my perception on dollar vs power. It is easily the best bang for the buck out there.

I have a very hard time believing that you have absolutely no weight reduction and nothing added to the head but that ported chrger. @bmancodgta4 Not sure which vid you watched, but yes, traction is the main reason my my car will run a full second quicker through the quarter mile. Our trap speeds would be similar as once the ZR1 gets above 110mph, his gearing and aerodynamics begin to really give him an advantage. His car with slicks would make a huge difference, but not by a full second unless he put the car on a major diet.
@CanexicanEvo9MR You're full of shit, a bolt-on/tuned C5Z' with a set of cheap Nitto radials would shit on a 9MR with DP/IT/Cams/25+ psi. A stock ZR1 would leave your doors out on the highway you arrogant bench racer. AWD is NOT the best from a dig, and is a liability from a roll due to having to split power between two differentials. "AWD is meant for autocross!". The EVO's only saving grace is that despite other manufacturers understeering nightmare experiences with AWD, it manages decently.

@Jutzujin I'm no expert like you, but I'm pretty sure that 11.55 (C5 Z06 record) and 10.71 (C6 Z06 record) are both not as quick as my 10.51 stock turbo, stock motor record. Oh, and neither of their 60fts were as good as my 60ft of 1.40 - thus rendering your "AWD is NOT best from a dig" theory wrong as well. Keep bench racing and I'll keep real life racing...and winning.
@mattbenluke It'll do 0-100mph in about 6.5 seconds. After 100mph is when the ZR1's gearing, cD, and powerband really start to get an advantage over me.
ZR1 on stock tires can run in the 10's in the quarter mile. In the mid 10's with drag tires. Yours looked like low 11's so how is this car "quite a bit slower" if at all slower? Not to mention the ZR1 traps higher speeds, you just get a pop off the line. A ZR1 would rape the Evo from a roll.
@disbsam333 10.71 is the record time for a stock zr1 on drag tires. I went 10.51 with a trap speed difference of 3mph - which I already said they have better cD, gearing, and top end for the back half of the track. I was comparing my car to this car in this video. It was not a blanketing statement. Watch all of my videos before you think you know my car's capabilities. As for a roll race, it would be very close from 40-130. He'd pull away steadily beyond 130mph.

It also doesn't take a lot to keep a stock turbo evo from going straight (unless you have 600+ whp)... this ZR-1 takes a driver of a lot more skill...
@Grifkylian I never said it wouldn't. In fact, I said that it would start to pull hard on me above 110. The 9 turbo with stock cams is basically out of breath at 6500 rpm and I have to rev to 8000rpm in 4th - just pushing 18psi of hot air at that point. And, regardless of the platform, it always takes skill to launch. Even with 400whp, I've had to countersteer on launch to keep from going into the wall.
@CanexicanEvo9MR Your trap speeds are no where near what a stck ZR1 can do though. Every stock Evo I have ran into that actually wants to race has been on the freeway. In the real world, the trap speeds refelct more than how fast you can get off the line. How often do you think you'll run into a ZR1 that actually wants to race AND knows what he/she is doing? It won't happen. Your EVO is fast no doubt, but in reality, a ZR1 will beat you to 150mph at any speed above 20mph.
@psmTARDCORE Actually, 127mph is pretty damn close to a ZR1's average of 130mph. Roll racing would depend on what speed we started. If we started at a 40 roll, I predict it would be very close to 130mph - would depend on how quickly the guy could shift. Beyond that, he'd pull on me like a freight train. Unfortunately, this will all be speculation as I'm now building a 2.3 ltr, 9krpm, beast motor - plan to race a local Lambo LP-700 Aventador. Can't fucking wait.
@CanexicanEvo9MR I want you to know I'm not bashing your Evo at all. For one, the ZR1 is capable of 134mph which is what you should look at, not the average. The difference a car trapping 104mph compared to one trapping 109 isn't very much, the difference between one doing a maximum of 127mph vs a 134mph is a lot different. The wind is much more resistant at those speeds. Which brings me to another point, drag coef on the ZR1 is better. AWD helps 0-100mph the same it does 0-60.
@psmTARDCORE Appreciate the respect. I'm not saying my car is a faster vehicle, however 99% of the time it is going to be unless conditions for the ZR1 are perfect. I typically race and molest 95% of the cars that should destroy me on paper. It boils down to traction, gearing, and driving. I've got nothing on the ZR1 in top end, but I can usually beat it there in the 1/4 mile with a good enough launch - good enough for me.
@psmTARDCORE I'm doing a 2.3ltr build with Modern Automotive Performance's stock framed turbo that is capable of 600+awhp. Should be trapping in the upper 140's to low 150's.

@quikagc5 I would disable the launch control and roll off the clutch from 3k. But dont just dump it, slightly ride it a bit so the wheels dont break loose. The bogging isnt exactly helping in acceleration either, just my theory on it.
@pbee73 The launch control is adjusting power to reduce wheel spin. A launch like that without launch control and he would have left about a miles worth of rubber on the road and still been in first gear.
Its amazing that the chevy guys can put that much power to the ground from the factory.
@DreamsMemories I understand that launch contol adjusts power, but what about those high HP cars from back in the day that didnt have launch control. My point was shut it off and learn how to balance the clutch and throttle ratio on launches.
@pbee73 Yeh I see your point as well. In the old days we didnt have computers to assist drivers. We could argue all day about which is better and such but basically they make it so a 12 year old or my 102 year old great grandma can post the same quarter miles as jon force. Its quite sad actually that the next gen auto tranny can post a better time than the manual counterpart. I would not be surprised if the next gen Z06 and ZR1s come with an optional 6 or 8 speed auto.
@rforracing Car does NOT have no-lift shifting feature. I was mistaken on that facet of the car. You can no-lift shift, but it's a powershift and probably not that great for the drivetrain long-term. You can see on my 2-3 shift in the video I didn't lift off the gas (powershifted) and the engine basically revved into the limiter.
@quikagc5 Gotta shift SUPER quick for that. I used to drag in the late 80's and early 90's and did burn a tranny and a couple of clutches before I got really good at it...
lol a "dragster" Well no shit a dragster will beat a GTR. 2012 Black edition GTR does 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds stock, This zr1 wont beat it, look at the timings for 0-60, it was in the 3 seconds range, and i know you could probs launch it faster on the zr1 but considering the GTR's transmission is computerised your always gonna get a perfect take off everytime. @donkey1450 I think the GT-R is great and I like how Nissan continues to upgrade them every year. I've driven a GT-R (see one of my uploaded vids). It's a very nice car and with more seat time, I would feel comfortable driving it very fast around a track, but it just wasn't as much fun to drive as my ZR1. I bought the ZR1 because it's one of the most exciting automobiles you can buy. Overall performance on a roadcourse track is superior to a stock GT-R despite a faster 0-60 for the GT-R.

Let me ask a question, isn't it better to not use launch control because dumping the clutch once just obliterates half its life? Would it be better to do a controlled 2000 RPM slip?
@ProChargedLS2 A stock LS9 will be much more reliable and durable than a supercharged LS7. It's ZR1, not ZR-1, as the ZR-1 was the '90 to '95 model. The new one doesn't have the hyphen.
Obviously, I'd recommend the ZR1. If you get the Z06, I'd do NA bolt-ons and not supercharge it to keep it more reliable.
@quikagc5 Sorry i forgot about the ZR1 thing... I'm not looking for much power out of my next car, I'm well aware that if i do decide to buy a ZR1 it won't ever run like my GTO, but I'm really just looking for something more of a show car... Thanks for your opinion on what i should do next!
@quikagc5 Actually the ZR1 is a great car but the low profile tires along with very high low end torque due to the positive displacement SC make getting the power down very hard even being geared a bit taller than a ZO6. Now a Z06 running an intercooled centrifical SC is nice because the low end grunt is more controllable and the top end will be high with this type blower I would check valve guides get YT rockers, and LT's. But for 10 G's you can have awicked Z06 n get great MPG still.
@quikagc5 I do agree that even a Zr1 with a pulley snout upgrade is still a reliable car. The LS7 has been having some issues of late. If you mod a ZO6 I would upgrade some of the questionable valve train parts n if going with boost a pistons swap is a must especially over 6lbs. I have neither car. Probably get a C6Z soon a do a low compression forged motor with a Procharger. ECS or Vette doctors are good on the east as well as cartek. Staying stock the Zr1 is VERY hard to beat for what it does

@quikagc5 Last comment I promise. Just curious they say at the 1500 mile mark you need to do the brake burnishing. This consists of 50 repetitions in a row of 0-60 sprints and hard stops followed by a cool down. This basically makes those brakes indestructible and preform as designed. Have you done this yet and why was this procedure not required on the Ferrari Enzo which uses the same brakes. Thanks for the info love the videos too!
@westy44cal Yes, I did do the brake burnishing procedure and I consider it to be absolutely essential if you are going to be driving a ZR1 aggressively. I had huge brake fade the first time I tried a few consecutive stops from triple digits speeds around town. Not cool. So, it is imperative to do the brake burnishing procedure. This procedure is necessary because of the pads that were developed for the ZR1. Enzo has different brakes. These pads work great hot and cold which is unusual.
@ProChargedLS2 If the Ls7 is prepared properly it will smoke the Zr1.I am currently in the process of having a Z06 carbon edition supercharged by lingenfelter.It will produce 650 hp & 650 ft lbs of tourque with factory reliability.In order to create proper boost and reliability in the Ls7 the compression ration needs to be reduced.

ZR1 on stock tires can run in the 10's in the quarter mile. In the mid 10's with drag tires. Yours looked like low 11's so how is this car "quite a bit slower" if at all slower? Not to mention the ZR1 traps higher speeds, you just get a pop off the line. A ZR1 would rape the Evo from a roll.

I went 10.51 with a trap speed difference of 3mph - which I already said they have better cD, gearing, and top end for the back half of the track. I was comparing my car to this car in this video. It was not a blanketing statement. Watch all of my videos before you think you know my car's capabilities. As for a roll race, it would be very close from 40-130. He'd pull away steadily beyond 130mph.

It also doesn't take a lot to keep a stock turbo evo from going straight (unless you have 600+ whp)... this ZR-1 takes a driver of a lot more skill...

@Grifkylian I never said it wouldn't. In fact, I said that it would start to pull hard on me above 110. The 9 turbo with stock cams is basically out of breath at 6500 rpm and I have to rev to 8000rpm in 4th - just pushing 18psi of hot air at that point. And, regardless of the platform, it always takes skill to launch. Even with 400whp, I've had to countersteer on launch to keep from going into the wall.

@CanexicanEvo9MR Your trap speeds are no where near what a stck ZR1 can do though. Every stock Evo I have ran into that actually wants to race has been on the freeway. In the real world, the trap speeds refelct more than how fast you can get off the line. How often do you think you'll run into a ZR1 that actually wants to race AND knows what he/she is doing? It won't happen. Your EVO is fast no doubt, but in reality, a ZR1 will beat you to 150mph at any speed above 20mph.

If we started at a 40 roll, I predict it would be very close to 130mph - would depend on how quickly the guy could shift. Beyond that, he'd pull on me like a freight train. Unfortunately, this will all be speculation as I'm now building a 2.3 ltr, 9krpm, beast motor - plan to race a local Lambo LP-700 Aventador. Can't fucking wait.

@CanexicanEvo9MR I want you to know I'm not bashing your Evo at all. For one, the ZR1 is capable of 134mph which is what you should look at, not the average. The difference a car trapping 104mph compared to one trapping 109 isn't very much, the difference between one doing a maximum of 127mph vs a 134mph is a lot different. The wind is much more resistant at those speeds. Which brings me to another point, drag coef on the ZR1 is better. AWD helps 0-100mph the same it does 0-60.

I typically race and molest 95% of the cars that should destroy me on paper. It boils down to traction, gearing, and driving. I've got nothing on the ZR1 in top end, but I can usually beat it there in the 1/4 mile with a good enough launch - good enough for me.

@rforracing Car does NOT have no-lift shifting feature. I was mistaken on that facet of the car. You can no-lift shift, but it's a powershift and probably not that great for the drivetrain long-term. You can see on my 2-3 shift in the video I didn't lift off the gas (powershifted) and the engine basically revved into the limiter.

@donkey1450 I think the GT-R is great and I like how Nissan continues to upgrade them every year. I've driven a GT-R (see one of my uploaded vids). It's a very nice car and with more seat time, I would feel comfortable driving it very fast around a track, but it just wasn't as much fun to drive as my ZR1. I bought the ZR1 because it's one of the most exciting automobiles you can buy. Overall performance on a roadcourse track is superior to a stock GT-R despite a faster 0-60 for the GT-R.

@ProChargedLS2 A stock LS9 will be much more reliable and durable than a supercharged LS7. It's ZR1, not ZR-1, as the ZR-1 was the '90 to '95 model. The new one doesn't have the hyphen.
Obviously, I'd recommend the ZR1. If you get the Z06, I'd do NA bolt-ons and not supercharge it to keep it more reliable.

@quikagc5 Actually the ZR1 is a great car but the low profile tires along with very high low end torque due to the positive displacement SC make getting the power down very hard even being geared a bit taller than a ZO6. Now a Z06 running an intercooled centrifical SC is nice because the low end grunt is more controllable and the top end will be high with this type blower I would check valve guides get YT rockers, and LT's. But for 10 G's you can have awicked Z06 n get great MPG still.

@quikagc5 I do agree that even a Zr1 with a pulley snout upgrade is still a reliable car. The LS7 has been having some issues of late. If you mod a ZO6 I would upgrade some of the questionable valve train parts n if going with boost a pistons swap is a must especially over 6lbs. I have neither car. Probably get a C6Z soon a do a low compression forged motor with a Procharger. ECS or Vette doctors are good on the east as well as cartek. Staying stock the Zr1 is VERY hard to beat for what it does

@quikagc5 Last comment I promise. Just curious they say at the 1500 mile mark you need to do the brake burnishing. This consists of 50 repetitions in a row of 0-60 sprints and hard stops followed by a cool down. This basically makes those brakes indestructible and preform as designed. Have you done this yet and why was this procedure not required on the Ferrari Enzo which uses the same brakes. Thanks for the info love the videos too!

@westy44cal Yes, I did do the brake burnishing procedure and I consider it to be absolutely essential if you are going to be driving a ZR1 aggressively. I had huge brake fade the first time I tried a few consecutive stops from triple digits speeds around town. Not cool. So, it is imperative to do the brake burnishing procedure. This procedure is necessary because of the pads that were developed for the ZR1. Enzo has different brakes. These pads work great hot and cold which is unusual.

@ProChargedLS2 If the Ls7 is prepared properly it will smoke the Zr1.I am currently in the process of having a Z06 carbon edition supercharged by lingenfelter.It will produce 650 hp & 650 ft lbs of tourque with factory reliability.In order to create proper boost and reliability in the Ls7 the compression ration needs to be reduced.
