  • you are so good

  • hey...in the tab it says capo on 4th fret on very bottom....it looks like the second fret in the video....which one is wrong?

  • @Origamiman979 I usually do the tab weeks before the video, so I must have decided to put the capo on the 2nd fret for this video. Using the capo at all is usually a matter of taste . . . or convenience, if there are difficult reaches. There is no obligation to use the capo, if you don't want to.

  • @oldwhtman i just try to replicate your videos to my best of my capabilities...so far sadness and sorrow is the only one of your covers i can play.

  • wow that so cool

  • Hello Mike, Just hit on your site. You have gained a new fan. You are an inspiration for an older guy to dust off is guitar and start trying again. Now that the ears are more in tune to warm music , I am going to try again. Thank you. Les

  • Who knew being old would be so much fun ... don't inhale the dust, it could be harmful at our age. I hope your ear is not as rusty as my tin ones.

  • By the comments you receive and the emotion in your songs, you are like a fine wine. It gets better with age. God Bless.

    Les

  • Coolest old man ever!!

  • I don't understand why is this only 3.5 stars. It should be a good rating of 5 stars!

  • It was kind of a surprise to me as well. Most visitors here politely give a favorable review or silently move on without comment. I'm guessing it was some young viewer who was disappointed that I hadn't uploaded another video game tune.

  • Don't mind them, mate. I've just found your arrangements here and I must say that you've got yourself another fan. All of your pieces are truly beautiful and this one's a no exception.

  • You rock keep it up

  • :O awesome ... <3

  • Wow, thats all i can say, I started playing the guitar a few weeks back. And your clips here keep me inspired when i feel i could better give up. Listning to your stuff remembers me why i started guitar, Just Briliant stuff you do there keep up the good work!

  • best i have ever heard

  • Best, perhaps, because there aren't any other guitar instrumentals of this tune on youtube. When there are, we can downgrade this video to "worst".

  • Mike, I'm 51 years old. I haven't picked up a guitar in about 30 years. Listening to you and Peo here on uTube has prompted me to go out and buy a 30 year old Yamaha classical ... but, I don't like the sound of the new ones ... and take up the guitar again. Anyone who gives you less that 5 stars isn't listening and knows nothing about the guitar. You are great.

  • Thank you. I hope to deserve such praise some day ... but it's not likely. I will certainly never rise to Mr. Kindgren's level. But hopefully there will always be a market for the simpler tunes so us regular people will have something to do.

  • You are being modest, you distill the essence out of these songs. I hope to soon be able to make my old Yamaha sing like you do to your guitar. You are very inspiring. But, yes Mr. Kindgren is a few levels above the merely inspired. Thank you for the beauty you provide.

  • Humble is good. I think we shouldn't compare ourself or any of the guitarist. I mean as long as you did your best, play with your heart and it doesn't sound too bad, you deserve the praise.

  • ratings are wrong...

    this is pretty great

  • Mike! I gave you 5 stars! Only because I really mean it! Anyone giving you less, didn't listen properly.

Well, I don't look at the ratings either. I play music!

    And so do you!

    All the best!

    Per-Olov

  • Thanks, Peo. Hopefully, they just hate Bobby Vinton and not me.

  • i loved it :) 10/5 keep up the great work.

  • hey oldwhtman,

love your work, really inspiring.. about the ratings -- they must be false. I think you should reupload the video.. pretty sure the proper ratings will follow..

    thanks

  • Thanks. But I'm not really concerned about ratings. I'm just curious about it. My theory is that some of my younger subscribers are disappointed that I haven't posted more video game tunes. Bobby Vinton is probably not their cup of tea. Better that they give me a low rating than call me names.

  • why are there such low ratings?

  • I wondered about that myself. Apparently this tune brought out the negative in a lot of people ... well, around 72 people anyway.

  • your style is truly beautiful

    all my respect

  • This is awesome! I hope I can play at least half as good as you soon!

  • Mike, nobody else on here can play a fingerstyle arrangement and get the melody to sit so beautifully above the accompaniment like you can. Respect.

  • Beautiful! I love your videos, thanks for sharing this with us. :o)

  • Wonderful playing here! Mike this is really very nice!

    5***** All the best, Frank

  • Thanks, Frank. Some faltering here and there. I kind of rushed this into production ahead of some other things I was working on. But this melody appealed to me so much I let it distract me.

  • great job - easy to forget just how genuine some of that music was - most treat it as "greasy" pastiche.

  • Pastiche. There's a word you (I) don't run into every day. No doubt about the prevalence of catchy and tasteful melodies back then ... "greasy" or not.

  • Hi Mike, lovely arrangement and beautifully played. Really nice! All stars for you *****

    Greetings from Germany

    Hansel

  • Danke, Hansel. There's a wealth of melodies out there waiting to find a new home on the classical guitar. Lots of work to be done.

  • verry nice :).Great job !! :x

  • Vielen Dank.

  • Great job Mike! It's awesome your using my arrangement. You play it better than I do! haha Im still working on memorizing it before I post it up.

    5*

  • Thanks, Rick. You have made a worthy contribution to the guitar repertoire with this arrangement. Those of us who are permanently skill-challenged need a repertoire too. We can't all be like Mr. Kindgren. By the way, I made a change to the arrangement near the end. The tab I sent you was based on a 4th fret capo. When capoed at the 4th fret you can play along with Vinton's recording.

  • Caric can wait, but only whilst you keep posting these great arrangements!

    Even I remember BV.

    I must be old.

    Cheers Mike.

    PS

I am getting increasingly worried. Should we just forget it? I will pay you to do so!!

  • I remember seeing him sing this on Ed Sullivan ... or some variety show. The lyrics are kind of gay, but the melody is classic. The caricature is coming ... no changing your mind. But I must admit I'm having difficulty getting a likeness. You're one of those lucky people whose appearance is not easy to ridicule.

  • Why no more japanese songs? :(

    Anyway, very good.

  • I'm working on "Another Aruni Village" from Chrono Cross, but I'm having trouble with a couple of bars that I can't quite execute as well as I'd like. But it's getting there.

  • I see! Well, keep doing! You really have got talent and I like how you play. It is very melodic.

Sory about my english, greets from Poland! :)

  • ;-)

  • Great job, simple but elegant. I LIKE IT!!

  • wonderful! =)
