I can honestly say that I truly Love this man and his Guitar, not only is he the best in the world, but Rosenberg is unbelievable, I wish they would come to Las Vegas, there is no Jazz Musician's here in Vegas . We need this here.
sérieux, il est trop impressionnant, ce devrait être interdit pour pas décourager les jeunes guitaristes en herbe qui atteindront jamais son niveau :'(
That is how to play, take chances and when it works, like it does here, it really is something special! I wonder why some people did not like it? Strange, but it is a free world (so THEY say) K
He produced the sweetest of notes and then some not so sweet, but to all come together to produce love entrenched melodies!!! I was totally aroused....... ;)
Music is an art, not a buisness. Sadly that is what it has become with all this poo today that is called 'music'. I swear all this shit today only concerns either ones 'moneyz', or 'bitches'. Or how one misses some 'girl' or 'baby' or anything of that nature. And to anyone sucked into that hell hole, well, sucks for you. This stuff here is real music. And anyone that is capable of making you lose control of your bowels with only a guitar and ones creative image, they deserve major kudos
@sukmyback Talk about close minded. There are many aspects of music, and many different genres. Just because this is good, everything else must not be bad.
@sukmyback One of very few songs in my life that have literally moved me to tears in their wonderfulness. Last one was Echoes by Pink Floyd. Not at all the same thing, but they had the same effect. I didn't know manouche jazz until a friend gave me this link, possibly to stop me enthusing about Rush and 7/4 time signatures.... Thanks so much for uploading.
People have said incredible stuff about him and I just want to add that this is the most brilliant solo perfromance I have ever seen on guitar. It has to it more than the mere sound and notes.
@Mrthouroug Standard I think but when he does some harmonics he holds the pick between his thumb and middle finger. However the interesting thing is how he attacks the strings but there is a few videos here on youtube that explains how you do that in gypsy jazz
@Mrthouroug He holds his pick very much like an oud player. If you check them out you'll see that they are very downpick heavy. I think they influenced all of the gypsy guitar guys.
i wish more musician played good organic music like this one. nowadays its too synthesized, not saying they all aint good, but i think music should be mainly like this.
I actually laughed out loud at least twice watching this.....first at the harmonic run near the beginning, then when he started messing with the tuning peg. Incredible player.
This man is JUST fantastic. Only with a fast brain, fast fingers and a good sense of humor in a finebalanced mix, you get this amazing performance. I love you, Bireli..!
you can't listen to this music...you have to feel it! this is some of the purest cleanest comunication from one human to another you will ever find! no filters, insecurities, or fears, so natural yet surprising. Django would be so proud that this music lives on inside people like us and bireli
As much the technique, it's his total melodic understanding that is amazing. Bravo. I'll never be this good, but it's still inspiring and makes me want to practice rather than give up.
why not rehearse and create a structured song to improvise within ...this is just a process that usually ends up being an unstructured racket that only the musician is enjoying...an ego massage.
He's not tuning, he's changing the pitch of the string intentionally, it's a technique some guitarists and banjoists use, which requires ALOT of skill.
I think hoopermazing is just a common audience who havent even try playing a musical instrument or if ever he did, he haven't tried studying this kind of techniques.
The the part where he did retuning his guitar is where he shows his Perfect Pitch and still be able to pull a riff over it (a Dim to be exact).
@Imagymnast114 - Me neither. This travesty is especially galling because I know what he is capable of. It's basically a fuck-you to the people who've paid to see him. (Let me clarify that, I'm sure that the wealthy patron of the arts types who've seen him 100 times don't mind this kind of avant-garde self indulgence. But for someone who might only have the opportunity to see him once, this would be a kick in the nuts.)
@Hoopermazing you obviously haven't seen the rest of the video this comes from -- it's about two and a half hours long, and includes a set of by the gypsy project, guest appearances by every major player in the genre, a guitar summit of unbelievable magnitude, and this jewel of an intimate soul bearing gift to the thousands of avid fans who filled that venue.
This improvisation is, I think, Bireli's way of spoofing himself just a but, but also showing his most dedicated fans how far his genius has taken him. I know of no one else brave enough to de-tune 2 or 3 strings in the middle of a solo and end up in key. He's so far ahead of other acoustic guitar pro's, I'd say he's looking for something new to say with his music, having mastered all the usual styles and genres.
yeh, when he plays stuff like this it's just a little too much for me and I dont really wana listen to it. Maybe my ear just isn't developed enough to really appreciate it but I sorta wish he'd just calm down. It's such a shame cause when hes good, he's the best! but this just didn't do it for me

@Hoopermazing umnnn am curius if you have ever had to solo/improvise all night in front of thousands of people, night after night, where the focus of attention is your musical explorations?? He has played the manouche tunes thousands of times and STILL consistantly manages to find something fresh and unique each night!!
@Hoopermazing also This particular style of completely in the moment improvisation is actually quite traditional and I think thrilling as you are watching somebody explore completely in the moment and that my friend is Jazz. I cannot imagine the challenges he faces having to improv as much as he does, but I have and will pay good money to watch him explore because that willingness to risk is what makes his playing so exciting!
