i love this stuf and i love this line up but i have always wondered even as a child watching this video back in the day. Why does grace slickk always try to look like a spaced out idiot ,that aint cool she looks like a moron.
their best song ever.the trio of songs-jane from 'freedom at point zero'and find your way back and stranger from modern times -jane -the bands anger over slicks temporary departure-find your way back over them being open to her return, and stranger was about her rejoining the band-notice on modern times on the cover it says-introducing grace slick...there is more to this story, but dont want to bore you guys-listen and enjoy...
Best overall performance of Starship for me hands down! Drums, Bass, compliment each other.Mickey and Grace compliment each other, and the guitar harmonies with the keyboard are in sync together. Pure Rock and Roll at its best! (Don't know who your talkin to!) Bang, Bang, Bang!
Thank you for posting this. Always one of my fav vids & songs. I was mesmerized by Grace Slick in this vid when I was 12, and she's still got me at 42. God bless her.
I think redimato might not be totally without merit here....they were trying to (for the time) be more modern....not taking into account JA's fame...which is a shame...regardless of whoever did it, I LOVE this tune...
@batoloco78. I totally concur. The drums are excellent here. And you really can see how much presence Grace Slick has. She's not afraid of the camera.
Indie is not Rock N RoLL, this, this is Rock N RoLL!! Indie is Pussy rock for little pip squeeks who don't know what Rock N Roll is, AC/DC for example, when do we hear bands playing like them or like Jefferson starship? Jethro Tull? All this new crap is just CRAP.
Just an awesome band from an awesome time, a lot of Rock 'N RoLL and a lot of healthy, beautiful girls and guys at the beach, surfing, partying, Van Halen, The Police, Journey, The Pretenders, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Micheal Jackson, Santana, Duran Duran, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Cars, Led Zeppelin, the list goes on and on, some were played out and put down, others just kept Kik'n Ass and I hope this kind of Rock makes a comeback and influences youth, Indie is fine but not "Rock".
This group was truly a Super Group. Musically they always improved. It's hard to find groups with the versitility of Jefferson Starship. Craig Chaquico and Pete Sears remain legendary guitar duo's. You part with a great voice in Marty Balin, but you replace him with equaly talented Micky Thomas. Few if any groups survived the transitions this group did only to get better with each change. They are classic!
@redtimato I think Jefferson Starship is a band punished by the fame of their predecessors Airplane, and have not been forgiven for that. They have top quality songs, but little praised and considered
@petrolero0266 very interesting take petro; here in the New Orleans area we occasionally get "Jane" on the (so-called) classic rock station, but that's it. I've often wondered why we get (God help us) U2, but no other real pioneers; you may be onto something
@mattanaih That's because their another great overlooked band. People on Classic Rock station's know little about the music of this Era that work their these days, And that's the truth.
The guitar solo from 3:25 to 4:14 is a masterpiece of musicianship. Years of guitar experience and creative release with sheer energy make that a window of sound to here over and over again!
For the record, that's actually Craig's doubleneck. It's actually the same doubleneck Craig plays in the Find Your Way Back video. If I remember correctly, Pete had a white Carvin doubleneck that he used for playing this song live for a couple tours, though by the Knee Deep In The Hoopla era, I think he reverted to playing the song on a regular Strat.
Kantner used a red BC Rich Bich 10 string a lot during this era. That's the guitar he's playing in the Find Your Way Back video and also the Wind Of Change video.
awesome video!! just as good as the airplane! just a different flight pattern. I grew up with the JA, but these guys have as much chemistry and originality. miss the eighties rock
I can remember the Jefferson Airplane from the 60's and I like this incarnation of the band. It was a really cool time in the early eighties and this music was part of the soundtrack.
Yes. This song is from the time that Jefferson Starship was no longer the shadow of Jefferson Airplane and were themselves as a band. It is excellent.
