  • @theworldgymnastblog1 Yeah but Amanar performed it on a broad horse that is a foot wide and rock solid. The vaulting table is much bigger and its sprung!

  • @theworldgymnastblog1 No this is a massive vault now and was even more stunning when she first performed it because it was so revolutionary

  • This was when the vault was still too low, correct?

  • @Considermethriving The vaulting horse was too low during the All Around competition, and Alana Slater of Australia alluded to her coaches and officials about the problem. It was raised in the middle of that event. So, by the time of Event Finals, it was at the right height.

  • Yeah, OK so that landing wasn't perfect and that is a shame. But she was the first to compete the vault and got it named after her. No one can take that away from her. Many of the skills that were named are now performed much better than the person it is named after - that still doesn't take anything away from the first person to do it. Love Amanars, I wonder what Simona's would've looked like had she been a gymnast of today...Imagine!!!

  • When else did she compete this vault?

  • Look, the Sydney women's all-around was an epic disgrace in every way. An asinine mistake that wouldn't be made in a Level 2 meet in PODUNK--and then they didn't restart the competition?!?! The utterly unacceptable treatment of Raducan was just the last straw in the hayloft of previous offenses. The whole thing was a catastrophe and no gymnast or serious fan takes it seriously or indeed ever bothers to mention it.

  • she lookes like a flamin' chilli dorito.

  • Her landing is so funny with the leotard and the commentators "wooww" all mixed together

  • I don't remember......is this when Amanar presented her vault to be entered in the code? Thanks.

  • @taydev2007 She first performed it at this Olympics, can't remember if she performed it in the AA or qualification round though?

  • @brunettekoala K thanks; I wasn't too sure :-) So I'm thinking it was during EF's she presented it.

  • that leo should be burned.

  • @mrpatriot83 okay....

  • I like how Elise Ray did a 1.5 Yurchenko at trials and they said it was one of the most difficult vaults in the World...What???

  • sorry, but im not a gymnastics person., but i thought that the vault was different. like whenever i watch a vault the actual vault is like a box, not a beam type thing.... thanks, and like i said before im not a gymnast, im and equestrian lol

  • @BlueBallerina234 Well, yes the vaults they vault on today look more like a square. This kind of vault is called a vaulting horse whereas the vaults that you're talking about is called a vaulting table. They changed the style of the vaults because people kept getting hurt on the old style vaults.

  • fata dragutza!

  • I mean were any of the US gymnasts in these vault finals??? LOL.

  • The US gymnasts suck c**k in this Olympics. Only they can do well at competitions in the US.

  • @YesterdayLand1 Oh, yeah, because they did so terribly in Beijing...gold silver in the aa, gold silver on beam, silver on beam, silver on bars, and silver bronze on floor...yeah, they really did terribly...

  • @YesterdayLand1 Your statement isn't true. The US did well in Barcelona, Athens, and Beijing. Very well in all three. Atlanta was just stellar!

  • Slightly tucked in the air.

    But the landing was off.

i give her a 10.00 deduction for the landing

  • I don't blame Simona, the EF is usually where you want to throw your hardest skills because in the qualification, you probably want to get into the AA and EF, in the TF, you don't wanna lose it for your team, in the AA you don't wanna hurt your chances to bad, plus at these games the vault was bad for an amount of time, not when she was vaulting though, and the EF is for the best int he world so they should throw there hardest skills.

  • you are not kidding.

  • @markoparko

who cares about her leotard? she was great gymnast, i don't think that her leo represents her.

  • Talk about a FUGLY Amanar. Yikes. How ironic.

  • @mrparke007 Talk about it being the first Amanar and on the old vault horse.

  • these vaults are so bad

  • Sorry, I thought it was at Sydney ...

  • Is the horse set appropriate here?

  • Yes it was the all around that it was not.

  • That's just amazing. Only someone as powerful and dynamic as Simona could pull that off with a vault horse like that. Like ispaht said...What would she be doing today? OMG! That's what! Simona is amazing! Go sim!

  • yes, i agree

  • just wondering, to get a new element recognised, you have to perform it successfully at a worlds or an olympics, if someone performs the element like that, would it be counted as a successful attempt?

  • Ya. What they would be looking for did she get it all the way around? Yep- Did she make it to her feet? - Yep. Form in the air, completely laid out - Yep.

Crappy landing, but she made it around. It counts!

  • i agree. her block seemed all right, it just seemed like she wanted to nail it...it was event finals and she didn't get to perform it in team finals or the all-around

  • yes. the only criteria in the COP is that you don't fall.

  • Anyhoo--- Back on topic. Great vault.

Even almost 9 years later, only a handful of women competing that. Even less competing it well.

  • and she did it on a vaulting horse!!! even more difficult

  • Exactly! We could just imagine what Simona could have done with today's vaulting table in her peak ('95 - '96)!

  • Probably a triple twisting yurchenko!

  • horrible leo...

    in earth and in air...

  • agreed. superbly ugly.

  • Some of you say: Horkina would have deserved gold medal in AA. This is a perfect supposition, like saying, the Russians would have reach the moon first, before the Americans.

  • Fuck off! If Svetlana Khorkina would' ve deserve the gold metal she would' ve recieved it.

  • Get serious!

  • @TracyBee2007 No one deserves or receives medals. They win them. You don't know that Sveta would have won if they'd set the vault right.

  • Robin, I'm afraid that both you and Andy misunderstood what I was trying to say. So many of Simona's fans seem so sad that Amanar did not excel on the vault here at the 00 Olympics. My point is that they shouldn't feel bad as Amanar was gifted the All-Around title due to the misfortunes of Khorkina and the vault being set at the incorrect height. As nice as a person as she is, I simply cannot accept Simona Amanar being considered the 2000 Olympic Champion.

  • You have a point on Khorkina, then again Khorkina fell on bars on her next event in the AA. Who knows what would have happened had the vault been set right. She fell on bars in team finals too, despite being the best bars worker in history. She is not immune to mistakes under pressure, even in normal circumstances. I agree though between the vault mishap destroying Khorkinas hopes and Raducans strange DQ Amanars AA gold was a joke. However what you dont seem to realize is even she admits this.

  • @robinsongentle "even she admits this." Bless her heart. She has been a good sport about this, handing over the gold to Andreea. Good for her.

  • Well, she isn't. Andreea Raducan is the rightful 2000 AA champion and every knowledgeable fan recognize her as such.

  • My fav one is Simona Amanar and I admire her so much ! But for me, Andreea Raducan was "The Queen" at Sydney 2000. It`s more than obvious, just like you said !

  • @AnnaPavlovaFan I have to say, I do not agree. Nothing against Raducan, I think she got the shaft--but I think ALL of them got the shaft, every AA competitor. We don't know who would've won if the vault had been set correctly--the lower height helped someone as small as Raducan (tho I agree, she's phenomenal) & she had an unfair advantage. As badly as Raducan was treated, I don't feel she earned it any more than anyone else. They should've tossed all the results and started over, IMO.

  • @NYCBlonde I totally agree, they really should've just started the competition over the next day once they realised they'd messed up the vault height. Raducan may have still won, but at least there wouldn't have been a question about it!

  • @AnnaPavlovaFan Simona herself recognizes that.

  • @rfillangi Simona's reaction was nothing short of amazing. A true class act.

  • The 2000 Olympic Champion was Andreea Raducan. But she was stripped by her gold medal, so Simona is the 2000 Olympic Champion. U don`t like it? Can`t live with the fact? Relax, in that case the 2000 Olympic Champion is Maria Olaru(next after Simona) !

  • that isnt the prettiest leotard on earth LOL

  • She probably caught sight of it in mid air which caused that big stumble on the landing.

  • Yeah, LOL

  • lmao

  • I would have given Simona a higher mark on this vault just because it was so out of this world at that time. She did manage to land on her feet. Too bad-I would have liked her to medal again on her best event. Anyway she must be honoured to know the vault is named for her! It's becoming as common now as the Yurchenko! :)

  • Those leos are so ugly, lol. Great attempt at a 2 1/2 though!

  • I actually think those neon leos or whatever material they are STUNNED me into liking them lol!

  • Simona was not at her best in this EF.

  • the move is too difficult

  • But not to worry ... she received the biggest gift she could have ever hoped for by being credited as the 2000 Olympic Champion.

  • Shame on you for your fowl language, andyl55! There is absolutely NO NEED WHATSOEVER for language like that!

  • Oh I'm ever so sorry. :rolls eyes:

  • I personally would be embarassed by such a 'gift' especially knowing the the very substance that caused Raducan to have the gold stripped from her is now off of the banned list-which means it should never have been banned to begin with.

  • yep...wasn't it caffeine?

  • Sorry but that is a pretty stupid thing to say when Amanar even gave her gold medal to Raducan back in Romania, was very outspoken how she did not want it and how she thought the decision was horrible to begin with. Some gift, one that she didnt even want.

Anyway neither Raducan or Amanar is the true 2000 AA winner. The true winner is the legendary women who would have won as expected without the vault height being wrong- Svetlana Khorkina.

  • khorkina was the true champion, we all know that

  • that just breaks my heart to see amanar miss

  • me too she looks so fatigued and tired!!
