Doctors recommend/prescribe pharmaceuticals everyday that are just as potentially deadly... OTOH, there are some 85-90 year olds who've smoked for decades and still puffing strong...
This is exactly how today's commercials with "Ask your doctor about Xanax" or "Ask your doctor about Lipitor", etc., are going to look in 50 years. People will be laughing that anyone was dumb enough to believe pumping your body with toxic, sense-numbing drugs in your system could do anything but do damage and shorten your life.
Smoking was a custom back then, and men would always have their lighter ready when a lady would pull out a cigarette so he could light it for her. It was a part of being a gentleman, such as pulling out a chair or opening a car door for them.
Smoking actually hasn't been linked to a single death. All of the issues people blame smoking on actually come from junk science, biased statistical research, and the general media zeitgeist not wanting to have it's assumptions disproven.
Every single problem "caused" by smoking is multifactorial. And these factors are far too great, and their reach is far too great, to possibly measure the effects of a specific one.
@ira4atari I'm not suggesting that smoking by any means healthy the way an apple is healthy. But it's healthier than we're lead to believe, it has many healthy benefits. And the problems and nature of the problems that we're lead to believe it's linked to are either non existent or to a lesser degree (sometimes much lesser) than in reality.
@ira4atari I mean.. I'm actually suggesting points of discussion. Unless you can refute them or at least respectfully debate them, you're coming across as much less educated. I suggest before you start challenging my arguments, you do some research. I'd recommend forces.org, as I said. It has lots of valuable information about smoking.
@ira4atari I'm starting to think you simply can't read. The fact that you're so close minded that you won't even entertain the possibility that your assumptions could be challenged with concise, logical reasoning is really more of a disappointment then anything else.
@Iamthedoorwaymusic you can't be serious! please tell me you're joking. you can't possibly believe your own bs, do you? if so, i'm afraid for you, as you might go jump off a tall building claiming its not bad for you!
@Iamthedoorwaymusic So a website is trying to be a "conspiracy theorist" and you believe them as the truth? Go look at the lungs of a heavy smoker and then you tell me if smoking doesn't kill you.
@AlmostKaraoke I don't think that's necessary at all, and I'm not sure anyone ever thought they were good for you. However... if you asked doctors today what their favorite cigarettes are, they might not all say they're Camels, but the majority of them would have an answer. Health care professionals smoke even though they KNOW it's bad for them.
@pkappel006 When cigarettes first became popular, and mostly around the 1940's-1950's, many advertisements and commercials would tell you the healthy benefits of a cigarette. Then later, they said that just having the filter on it made it okay. It wasn't anyone's fault, they honestly did not know the long-term consequences of smoking.
@pkappel006 yes, I used to smoke Marlbouro since I thought it was cool and all my friends smoked, why shouldn't I.................I chew alot of gum these days, sugar free. But still, having a cig after a good meal would still taste great, but I just can't
Smoking doesn't cause cancer. come on think about it....Doctors smoke non filter camels i am going to go get a pack for my 10 year old brother right now and he will love it just like that doctor did. YAY FOR SMOKING BUTTS! UP WITH HOPE AND DOWN WITH DOPE! YAY!!!!!!...........how could people be this stupid?
@BloodWryght666 I know you're being sarcastic, but you're probably about half right. Research indicates that people who contract cancer of any kind have a genetic predisposition to that kind of cancer; carcinogens like tobacco are just a piece of the puzzle.
"...and they agree with your throat..." News flash- it's not pleasure it fuggin throat cancer! Geez, how did they not know this stuff back then? What was next? "Ohh it really is stimulating to be shot in the god foresaken kneecap??"
i really find this funny. doctors smoking. And why did they ask doctors? why not celebs or something? Did doctors know back then that smoking was and still is horrible?
This is sad. My grandmother was a heavy smoker her whole life and she died of malignant cancer of the lungs. My father also smoked and had to have a quadruple bypass at age 60. He dies a few years ago- of bone cancer. It is a shame that they had the chance to market this as being a product that wasn't dangerous for you.
ive never smoked cigarettes. i can understand why ppl do though. but geez, what a horrible thing to get addicted to.. such a filthy habit.
