  • ...brian setzer?

  • @hiphopsucks96 ...yep!

  • learn to be humble.

  • playing drums is not sports, it is music. If you are pumped with testosterone and looking for some athletic feats go to a gym.

  • How are all you gonna sit here and bash him? He's fucking amazing! go listen to travis barker

  • hmm is your intention really to teach us?

  • Any reason hes holding the stick backwards?

  • @10sharks10 It creates a different sound.

  • @10sharks10 fatter sound

  • @10sharks10 I don't know why, but I find this funny.

  • What a Load of CRAP!!!!

  • okay......

  • Keep it up Josh, he is the best. You are a lucky guy !! Do you ever go to Cafe Cordial or Vitello's?? You should ask Bernie to take you to a session with him. I do Bernies cartage, about 25 years now !!

  • Bernie is also a master studio Percussionist, two of his latest , Super 8 and Cars 2, with Alex Acuna, Walter Rodriguez, Dan Greco, Don Williams and others, and of course Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Cleveland just to name a few this month !! Yes this month !!

  • @georgec2468 He mentions stuff like that in our private lessons and it leaves me just like wow, this is the real deal.

  • amazing you guys don't know what paradiddle's are!!

  • i have the same pinkie problem at my early drumming.

  • paradiddles are usually left right left left, right left right right. NOT triplets. or at least thats what i was taught in pipe band

  • This guy resembles Professor Frink's zanier crypto drumming brother!

  • HONEY!!! I SHRUNK THE KIDS!!!!..

  • Krupa lives on.

  • Wobble wobble.

  • Bernie - they're called paradiddle diddles. Not a big deal really.

  • @frimple1 He's not playing paradiddle-diddles. He's playing double strokes in 6 note groupings (rr-ll-rr). A paradiddle-diddle is r-l-rr-ll.

  • He's friggin' AWESOME... very cool.

  • Watch the videos of (BANDA TRAMPO) of Boituva, very good too, thanks.

Watch the videos of (BANDA TRAMPO) of Boituva, very good too, thanks.

Watch the videos of (BANDA TRAMPO) of Boituva, very good too, thanks.

  • so muchhh pinky haha. otherwise pretty neat

  • AAABBBA NO WAY For a start it's another layer of interpretation and also you may be ambidextrous but lastly and most important it's about getting your hands equal if you have trouble turning a R into an L than ok. Also while your feverishly working on your weak hand believe it or not your togetherness suffers you must play together always ALWAYS I SAY!!!!

  • What a loser.

  • that is a nice idea right there. double strokes but triplet based.

(im left handed so I hereby suggest that ALL drum instruction should refer to yr strong hand as A and weak as B) so paradiddle is no longer RLRR LRLL, but ABAA BABB, which makes it easier for everyone))

so waht this cat is playing is

Aa bb aa, Bb aa bb, Aa bb aa, Bb aa bb....(accents in capitals)

At first I thought he meant

    Aab Baa Bba Abb

    Which is a head fck

  • Anyone who criticizes this just read about his background. This is a treat to hear from a musician who is so successful and cool that he is a super cartoon character type dude.

  • BOOGIE WOOGIE LOLOLOL 1:35

  • Ааа, казявку вытер о барабан на 1:35 =)))))

  • IF I DRINK AND PLAY AS HE PLAYS I WANNA BE DRUNK

  • holy mother of crap, unless i'm mistaken, that is a craviotto snare. if you have a craviotto snare, you have either got more money than god, or you have officially ARRIVED in terms of endorsements.

  • I did the dirty boogie with your mom last night

  • 2:47 ROFLMFAOO xDDD

  • Somebody...please...MOON GEL!!!

  • you seem like a huge tool but your an awesome drummer for sure. cool video

  • the hihat creeps me out sometimes :P

  • He's holding his left stick upside down.

  • WOW! hahahaha

  • Did he just stoke his floor tom? ...

  • I've met Bernie and played with him and been taught by him and he's actually a really cool guy. Despite the fact that he keeps his pinky off the sticks, he's a great drummer. And yeah he's kinda weird and eccentric but he's not gay he's married and has kids. And even if he was gay it wouldn't matter he's still a great drummer and a great guy.

  • @BaByDrMa i keep my ring and pinky finger off the sticks

  • @risinglegend09 yeah, not a good idea

  • I think this guy married his cousin. Male cousin.SICK!

  • drunk asshole

  • @junkiesonsak101 and you are part of a grammy winning band? naaaa'hh thought not ......bernie rocks and you like cocks ....so go spout your shit somewhere else

  • 1:00- His stick. Is upside down. Im preeety sure he's somewhat wasted, but still a rockin' drummer xD!!!

  • @SnapShotShawtyz haha sometimes we drummers turn our sticks around! makes a fatter sound, louder and longer! great if your playing a shuffle Imo.

  • @SnapShotShawtyz yes it is... even im just a newbie and i know that it makes it sound louder and with more shaped wave

  • @SnapShotShawtyz That's not too uncommon actually. Mike Portnoy plays with his left stick backwards. He says it's a nice counterbalance.

  • @colorfulwithaU

Sound is important but drumming is not all about sound. its performance and showmanship too. i've been in DCI and trust me the pinky out does not fly there and it does not fly on any other percussion instrument. someone of his level of skill should know that and he should break the habit.

  • ableerr deer WOOOOW baderrr

  • Man, this guy is awesome. He's got style and the licks to back it up! Great shirt and quiff! If he was drunk or high his time would wander. Don't ask me how i Know that...

  • I have read many of the comments and am staggered by the ignorance quite frankly. What is all this nonsense about being drunk, high or being gay? What has that got to do with his playing? He has been playing the drums since he was 2 years old so why don't people just listen to what he has to say and watch what he does? Perhaps when these creeps have toured the world playing in big bands they can come back and show us all how to play something. My farts have more to say than these guys.

  • I HATE WHEN I SEE DRUMMERS THAT PLAY LIKE THEY ARE ENGLISH ROYALTY DRINKING TEA!!!!!!! tuck your pinky in under they stick. i can assure you that no matter how famous or good you will ever be you will never grow unless you fix that. let that be a lesson to anyone playing the drums ever. you look like a pussy with your pinky out

  • @insanitystruck

All fingers (including the pinky) SHOULD be under the stick. But if your pinky strays from the stick it's not that big a deal, because when you're playing matched grip, most of your finger control is in the middle and ring fingers, and the fulcrum (thumb and index) holds it up. All in all, it's about the sound you get out of the drums. Whether a drummer "looks like a pussy" or not while playing has nothing to do with how good they are.

  • euurrghh PINKY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Wolverine51324 I also hate that yank term "pinky"... It's so fucking Casper the friendly ghost! Shudder!

  • haha whaaaaat??

  • he is not high, he is just cooler than you....

  • man alcohol has really fucked ya up!!

  • ii have that exact snare drum o.O

  • why is he holdin the other drumstick upside down O.o

  • elvis has left the building

    thank ye very muuuuccchh :P

  • i love the triplet part!

  • retard....:D

  • @thecravenator42069 Ya, your right. My teacher does that all the time and he is a jazz drummer and has all those traditional traits. The butt end gives you a flatter sound when you hit the drum. And Bernard Purdie rocks his shuffles with that grip lol.

  • @thecravenator42069 okay, that's not traditional grip if that's what you're talking about. You should never do a snare lick like that because of the different sound it creates. No is there possibly a place where it might be beneficial to do that? Possibly, but no one should ever do that during a long snare lick like that.

  • Buddy Holly yes, that blouse is great to country And western

  • this is the meat icing on the pot induced potato meat cake icing cake

  • at 0:58 he's holding his left stick on the tip end instead of the butt end.... This guy is stoned out of his mind..........

  • @apercussionist91 actually that's a technique

  • So is it

    RrlLlrRllRrlLrrLlrRllRrlLrrLlrRrlLrrRrlLrrL ?????? (CAPS=ACCENTS)

  • @africanchina1

double strokes: rr ll rr ll

sixteenth note triplets: Rlr Lrl Rlr Lrl

Now put the two together: RR ll rr LL rr ll RR ll rr LL rr ll

So, you're doing a regular double stroke roll, but you're accenting every third double to give it that triplet feeling. Hope this helps.

  • I lol'd. This is the icing on the meat and potato cake?

  • he is high as a kite

  • I would have killed myself if my snare where ringing that much.

  • your pinkies are off the sticks when you roll and thats not correct form

pff pro drummer i think not

  • is he autistic

  • poor girl~

  • His left stick is backwards ha ha

  • i have the same snare

  • This guy makes me laugh every time.

  • he's not holding his sticks right!!

  • Playing like that doesn't look to great for your back.

  • i think this guy thinks he better than he really is lol.

  • @wadoryu2u Nah, Bernie's the man. I met him and talked to him for a while about touring and dealing with people's personalities in music and all that. He's a nice dude and a really good big band drummer.

  • well maybe he's drunk but i still learnt something

  • its not the meat and potatoes

  • im loving the fact that he's wearing the same shirt as seth in superbad. and that hes drunk.

  • neil peart is > john boner

  • He's drunk ?

  • LOL FLYING PINKIES

  • Nice, question . what is one snare head that is neutral sound or go snare head or luck of better word the best snare head available out there?

  • at 135 he wipes a "dirty boogie" on the flo tom. his real names "goober"!really!

  • wonder why he holds his one stick backwards.

  • you get a thicker "fatter" sound on the snare if you do. you can hear the difference more clearly if you try it on the ride, the butt end has more of a blunt sound than the tip, try it.

  • Comment removed

  • cuz he can get more power out of his snare hand

  • this guy is awesome! haha

  • "the dirty boggie"

  • this guys a prick.

  • why

  • his attitude, its like he doesn't even care about teaching you, h in it for the money.

  • yeah. i saw him in a clinic and he seemed kind of like a funny/different guy. maybe its just his personality. or maybe he is really being a douche

  • It does not mean that he does not care about teaching you... Possibly you fail to understand that there is an emotional pain that real artists can go through which will make them still able to do their job, but really would rather be someplace else when dealing with others. Its one reason some turn to drugs. Artists have a sensitivity that can get this way, and I believe in his case that's what is going on.

  • WOOWW hehehe

  • homie needs to calm down with that right pinkie finger.

  • He holds the stick wrong...maybe he smoked weeds.....xD

  • THta doesn't matter as long as you sound good.

  • yeah..haha

  • crackiotto

  • aaaaaaaaahhh! CRAVIOTTO

    i love that snare

  • ahahaha.... co0l :DD

  • i dig! Thanks

  • Is he drunk? :D

  • @lileulileu he is gay..

  • @lileulileu lol

  • @lileulileu lol

  • @lileulileu Nah, i think he is so Cool, that he always looks chilled out and wasted.

  • @lileulileu knowing bernie, probably

  • @lileulileu Have you ever met someone behind a drum set that wasn't? XD

  • Great player, bad teacher.

  • this snare is OTO!what OTO?CRAVIOTTO

  • Great stuff... Great drummer. I've seen him work live.. real flair player.

  • He sounds high

  • That's exactly how one of my friends sounds when he gets really high.

  • Nice Craviatto Snare :D

  • Nice job bernie. I found this tricky drum solo that blew my mind, thought you would be interested. Keep the videos comin!

    /watch?v=4egu0S5aZDQ

  • @ oddjobjujitsu: Now you shut your mouth about thrash metal. You try playing through one of Sepultura's sets, and I'll bet you won't have the heart to go on. You'll just be begging for a bed, wuss. I dare you to play a higher bpm Slayer song and post the cover on youtube.

And btw, I enjoy quite a bit of Jazz and funk myself, so don't give me the "real music" bit.

  • Slayer isn't real music.

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • "And I've been doing crack...and LSD, and uh, some dope, and stuff like this oh yeah."

  • flaco, chiquita cara de panoli

  • lol hes playing one of them upside down

  • he is high as heaven

  • would it be considerd 32d note tripletrs?

  • No, it would not. I call it "eigth note triplets" but i could be wrong. However i am sure it is no 32nd not triplets. :)

  • Speak reallly slowly because we're all idiots.

  • My God man, lose the elvis/johny cash hair.

  • yes, all people must look exactly the same....

  • to joeyisnotfunny ..my god man you wish you had this talent!!..bernie is a great drummer don't take the piss out of his style..what are you ? some grungey thrash metal all noise and no real talent?.. maybe if you listen to a little BSO you might realise that there is some real music out there

  • Haha grungey thrash metal? No thanks. All Im saying is hes trying to hard to fill the "nashville shoes".

  • in drummern this nothing ouf pratic men you need

  • hey how are you.

this is my brand new account called StephenFiorentini-my own music channel!

    i just made recently

and i would greatly appriciate it if you checked out my channel and subscribed if you like it!

    it would mean alot.

    Steve

  • cool video :)

  • i watched the hole video just waiting for him to explain why he is holding he's drumsticks like that

  • lol or why he plays leaning forward

  • wow, i didnt notice that....

    its true

  • hes just trying to be like buddy rich haha, NEVER GUNNA HAPPEN haha

  • it's called the fulcrum. Jojo Mayer talks indepth about it

  • i think 'fulcrum' is the motion.

fulcrum is a ''lever'' motion, the one he is doing with his right hand.

but my question is why is he holding the drumstick with the tip and the shoulder of the stick by his wrist and the shaft and 'butt' of the stick touching the snare drum.

  • The 'fulcrum' is what you use to hold your stick. Inbetween your forefinger and your thumb. Holding them together in that way, creates a fulcrum from which you can balance the stick and move it back and forth. A lot of older style drummers hold their main snare stick backwards to get a fatter sound out of the snare and on rimshots. Try it sometime, it's pretty fun.

  • lol another thing. why is it that from 2:47 to the 3:07 he plays with his mouth open?? lol so weird

  • ya! there a lot of distractions in this video...

i didnt even pay attention to what he was talking about lol

  • This is a really crude explanation so apologies if you don't get me.

Imagine you can play two volume levels with each hand; quite and loud. when you use matching sticks the dynamics should be identical (provided you have good technique in each hand!). Using the butt of one stick changes the dynamics in that hand, meaning that you now have four dynamics; quite and loud for the right hand, and quite and loud for the left. I hope you understand that, I didn't explain it very well!

  • yes i understood!

that was what i thought, but i still think it is weird...

and in some way it even looks like wrong

  • wow. the snare is amazing sounding!

  • its a craviotto if you wanted to know (Y)

  • dude omg he totally wiped a boogie, maybe thats why the song is the dirty boogie?

  • mike johnston is the best drum teacher

  • what is this snare? i have got almost the same from Truth drum company :)

  • Craviotto Drum Company. Sweet sounding drum; has that old swing snare sound.

  • snare is dw

  • then it looked like he was investigating the size of it at 1:52... fucking hilarious

  • Grow up?

  • ok ok, i didnt say anything bad. i thought it was funny. and so did alot of other ppl. if you were a drummer (and i hope you are) would you wipe your boogie on your set? theres nothing wrong with having a laugh.

  • Stil wtf that's not even funny that's just weird...
