  • I think that is marvelous to see how the human body and mind togheter can develop a technique that express so much armony and intelligence. Nice demonstration.

  • these aren't real monks. The temple never teach them to "show off" in the public.

  • @crossvaneclone Actually they are real monks, and if you've ever been to the Shaolin Temple they do quite a bit of public performances on a regular basis. It's how they can continue to sell the novelty of the brand name Shaolin to newer and newer generations.

  • @crossvaneclone Actually they do these days. Hence all the performance teams. Most have been trained at the Shaolin Temples for most of their lives, do demonstrations in other countries, and then return. Some prefer not to go back. Get your facts right.

  • I'm Currently a Level 6 (orange stripe) Wushu Student!

It's a lot of hard wok, but it pays off in the end! ^_^

  • Wushu, i fuckin love it

  • Chin Woo wushu to be precise....

  • @MattTerry1974

Actually no. Shaolin Wushu as in from the Shaolin Temple. That place where people learned wushu about 1,412 years before Jing Wumen (Chin Woo) ever existed.

  • Crazy little bastards

  • @Taluglalom837 Incorrect. They are highly cultured, spiritual people who respect their enemy though they train hours a day to kill them.

anyway i was just joking, shaolin monks are crazy insane! they obviously have self defense skills

  • This is what good martial arts is all about. Martial arts shouldn't bet violent blood sports; they're talented displays of technique

  • same great stuff u see in studio with mats, except here its all brick! they dont give a crap lol

  • this is traditional shaolin wushu... very impressive.. have been practicing matrial arts 14 years, in my opinion kung fu is most effective

  • traditional monks doing "fairly traditional" wushu...

    awesome stuff

  • shaolin wushu players? =) cute =)

  • Wushu(武術),

  • va ex ibiendose como payasos para un monton de soperutanos

  • 1:56 dude got hops! one day ill get that high!

  • these are shaolin monks.

  • Stupendo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is actually Kung Fu, traditional version of wushu ;)

  • Thank you for that lesson. let me give you one in linguistics my friend.

Wu = Martial, Military Shu = Art

Kung Fu = Gonfu = "Great Skill (through persistent effort)"

There is no such thing as a "traditional version" of Wushu, though there is "traditional Wushu" and both have very unique gongfu. Thanks for the comment ;)

  • What I meant to say was "traditional", or the "origin" of Wushu(武術), is from GongFu(功夫).

The Shaolins in the vid most likely practice traditional because they strengthen their bodies, unlike other Wushu performers who only practice their forms and flexibilities.

I was just trying to point out that Wushu is basically the showoff version of Gongfu, with less power and harder to use in real fight, but "cooler" for Hollywood fans.

  • But that is only because Wushu has become a sport that looks like that,

There are both traditional and contemporary styles of Tae Kwon Do for example, and both have gongfu in their own ways, though one is more of a sport created for world competition while the other is a traditional martial art. It would be incorrect to assume that only one has "great skill" just because it follows a different principle.

  • The same can be said for this video. Here the monks are doing wushu (Martial Arts) though they are doing a traditional style of wushu. Than your argument would have to be simply a matter of opinion between which has more gongfu, the sport or the tradition, either way it doesn't change the fact that they're both called wushu in china. Only through our own interests can we assume which has more gongfu, but that is something that is personal and subjective.

  • also I hate to point this out as well, but most of these forms are new forms invented in the last century mixing elements of traditional shaolin Quan, Cha quan and Hua Quan. If one would be so inclined as to compete in a shaolin form at an international level, they would have to do a form similar to this, so I wouldn't even call these 'traditional gongfu.'

granted, I think they are 10000% better than modern nandu wushu and they have way WAY more gonfu than nandu wushu in my opinion.

  • But they are still relatively modern forms. I love alot of these forms that were created in the 50's through the 70's for competition because they still had amazing gongfu and flavor plus alot of the elements of the traditional styles. Alot of people still get confused now as to what is really traditional and what is contemporary but thats a debate generally political in nature and not one I am a fan of so I simply call this style 'old school modern wushu to avoid debating with traditionalists.

  • @wushu297

Besides the meaning "learned skill/great skill" the term Kung fu got a second meaning in the all day language of most western countries (I think also bruce lee used it like that) which is some thing like: a chinese martial art focusing on the more traditional aspects (like buddhism, qi gong, combat ...). The word is often used to make a contrast to modern sports "wu shu". Even if this has nothing to do with the chinese routs of the words, it has this kind of usage as well.

  • wow i wouldn't last 2 seconds in a match with him.

  • very very very nice video

  • Basically I have a simple way of defining the difference between self defense and martial arts. Know what it is? Read one of those two over again and pick what word stands out.

  • your comment makes no sense....

  • meaning martial arts is an Art.

  • @AzzA1332 but you use martial arts to defend yourself

  • I don't see god as power..some say god is creating humans and stuff...but me I just think god is a way of describing money...his speech is very very deep.. what if instead of god you use words like success or hardwork?..

  • People don't worship in churches to feel the presences of money

  • the english language butchers the meaning of anything profound, just like the culture

  • @rediance dude god isnt money and azza is right

  • @roark02 People Go to churches in search of spiritual closeness. The churches in America are non-profit organization and yet they apparently always need money. Why do I see in my TV ads, made by people who apparently know shit about god and they SELL stuff? Why not just give it for free? Why not Just do spiritual favors to the world in exchange for simple support without money? I don't know what part of the world you live in, but in America we use god for money sometimes.

  • god isn't some dude that sits in a cloud and smites whoever angers him, it is a consciousness it is a different way of understanding it is a level of thought that the human mind reaches through discipline and study, it makes the human body move in a way that isn't understandable to even scientist yet. i'm not saying i reached that yet, cause damn, i probably have to turn into a hermit to understand that shit. i've just felt it

  • wushu is the motion of god. us wushu practitioners are as close to god as man can be, we see his motions, we feel his movements, we give birth to the children of god who train in his praise.our sweat are his tears! our pain is his love! our every movement becomes a bridge in which we feel and even become god!!...except this new nandu shit. that stuff sucks!

  • wow thats deep

  • I loved you speech...and then I lol'd at the end! Haha! But it was still very nicely stated about this martial art.

  • I thought it was for self discipline, self defense, and a way to stay in fit?...god?..nice speech dude but I think you over did it...not hating or nothing

  • thats what someone who studies martial arts says. but only true martial artist will understand my speech and have actually experienced my words. train for 6 hours straight and by the seventh hour you will feel the depth of martial arts. then you will understand it...plus you'll be in great shape too

  • I understand what your saying. but I don't know about the whole god thing. i think it would be more like true life, or maybe enlightenment.

although it is very spiritual to do wushu

  • Some of you guys don't understand martial arts at all. This is not Wushu. Whoever posted this video is mistaken. This is traditional Shaolin Gongfu. Some of you have no idea. this is just a performance. many of those moves have a fighting side, but they're performing, not fighting.

  • what you are saying is so true!

  • hey! wushu literally means martial arts. so unless you understand that! i highly doubt you understand chinese WUSHU. shaolin wushu means SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS. so unless they are doing a dance created by traditional dancers of the chinese people, i'm still gonna see this as SHAOLIN WUSHU!!!!! you say gong fu in china- they will say what? you say wushu in china-they will take you to a wushu school or the shaolin temple! so i hope this helps you in your understanding of martial arts.

  • holy shit COOL

  • Bravo.

    They kill u ded.

  • I guarantee that if you tried that they'd have you dead on the ground within like three moves. This "brawling" you talk about rarely ever has the control of wushu.

  • i dont think so... i've seen 'street brawlers' and they have no control. their movements are wild. you would lose. the end.

  • White tiger would own these Shaolin Wushu-trainers. White tigers has absolutely no control and is basically raw instinct, but still manages to kill off all these wushu-trainers. Nice try but white tiger would claw these guy's heads off.

  • only type of tiger style u can really lrn today is black tiger though

  • I fucking own I was talking about the species ROFL! "Raw instinct" "claw these guy's heads off" I own admit it. I got you :). Notice how I tried to not link people and white tiger. Hahaha I was talking about Siberian tigers. But I shouldn't have wasted your time hah sorry.

  • dude... this is just a form of dance and art. if they were to fight i'm pretty sure they'd do somethin other than wushu, like using tai chi or something

  • They're monks and they gonna step out of the world and find out The Nirvana In the past they use kung fu to protect themselve from outside world for peace but today It like a circus It Shouldn't be like this Anyway That's the great martial art descends from generation to next generation Grandmaster Tak Mor if somebody ever heard this name he found Shaolin Temple And Kung Fu

  • wads the chain weapon called ?

  • If you're referring to the first weapon, it's called a meteor. Sucks if the rope broke and hit someone.

  • No its a nine section whip.A meteor hammer is much different.

  • Oh, sorry. I couldn't see too well(Bad resolution). I thought it was a meteor hammer.

  • i like Shaolin Wushu Demonstration nice

  • cool

  • hwoo hyaa hwoo hyaa hyaa, that great

  • i could kick his ass in a second. . .wu shu is not a real martial art and is not good for health because all those crazy flips and low stances are bad for your ligaments. he is not grounded at all - I could just push him over in the middle of his moves. . . no practicality at all - its so sad that the good name of shaolin kung fu is now equal to this because of the cccp - and they sell it to westerners who don't know any different

its evil to have parlor tricks as real martial arts

  • it's funny how little you know about this. you would be so easily defeated by any of these people. also qi-gong is not a parlor trick.

  • la perfezione dell'unione corpo-mente

    Luca

  • wushu is kung fu,kung fu is wushu .haha

  • Unless anyone else is wondering, the weird sound from the first one is because of the cloth tied at the end of the chain. When you spin it at that speed, it makes that sound. The cloth is there to prevent it the chain from going too fast.

  • where is this?

    lol, weird chain whip sound

  • what is that spinny ting that makes the fart noises called?

  • Chain Whip

  • Mmhm, when was this? It looks a lot like Red Square with Suzzalo in the background. But maybe I'm wrong.

And I have to say, that's pretty impressive, to say the least. And, really, the flashiness has more purpose than for show - it also improves and emphasizes good health and stamina.

  • I think you'd be surprised that there are quite a few old wushu masters. Your complaints are also unfounded because an old man under normal circumstances usually can't lift three times his body weight as well. We all degenerate in old age so its kinda nice to have fifty years of incredible ability and another fifty relaxing.

Also high impact sports increase bone density not take it away. Leave your bizzare politics off of my videos please.

  • i agree, with you, i do wushu, and being in a low stance does not make your bones or anything about your physical body hurt, it makes you stronger, your bones stronger, your muscles, and wushu helps you be flexible to make sure you dont get hurt, toof, your are one stupid guy, who knows nothing of wushu

  • LoL Why dont u go to china and di a duel with a one of this monk?

And this is not wushu this is a another kung fu style wushu is a term to use also in chinese style.

  • thats was infront Notre Dame de Paris in France awsm !

  • It is a show to tell the World you can learn the moves from a local Mc Dojo but for chi cultivation and ultimate health, better find an expert.

  • hahahaha i luv how they freezed it at 1:52

  • no kidding. This requires years of hard training.

  • Some of you just have no idea about Chinese Kungfu, especially this one, called Shaolin Kungfu. :(

"Wushu" (meaning martial arts)is the Chinese official and general name of Kungfu. The word "Kungfu" is mostly used in occasions not very formal, and in regions out of China. You may find more about it on web. :)

  • You've hit the nail on the head:)

  • isn't showing off the point of demonstrating?

  • awesome

  • I didnt understand what happened with the little boy, What did he do?

  • WEll they put a bowl on his stomach and using his "inner chi" a.k.a contracting muscles, he muscles held the bowl in place as an audience member picked him up by pulling on the bowl now stuck to his stomach by muscle contraction.

  • looks like wushu to me

  • k...jackass...shaolin...is not wushu its traditional kungfu

  • err wushu and kung fu are the same thing. unless by wushu you mean the sport, then its different, but Wushu is the traditional name for Kung Fu. In fact Wushu translates to martial arts but Kung Fu translates to Hard Work.

  • strictly speaking Wu Shu translates as "to stop conflict". Wu meaning "stop/cease" Shu meaning "conflict/war". This is commonly translated as martial arts cause its a term westerners are more familiar with. Although i prefer "to stop conlflict" as I feel it describes Chinese Wu Shu more appropriately.

  • i would LOVE to see this guy off XTC doing the WACKYEST light shows at the next rave

  • where do u think strings and glow sticks came from? haha

  • The thing that impressed me the most was the 13 year old with that bowl. Geeze he's only as old as my little bro. Seriously the coolest trick my 13 year old brother can do is 540 kick.

  • this is art.five stars

  • Very Flashy stuff...

  • indeed beautiful.

  • its great skills but doing it on the street just felt abit downgraded shaolin tradition

  • there's nothing bad in showing one of the chinese culture to the world

  • the audience clapped for no reason

  • Shaolin Kung fu all over the world, this stuff is the real deal, it brings tears of joy that there are so many of this all over the world

  • shoes

  • hey ur right. haha

  • amazing

  • 1.52 HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

  • wow this is such mediocre kungfu lol. yeah 1.52. the grunting has got to go :P
