@vukashin88 I am serious. The Russians have used a lot of American design methodology. I would suggest looking into mathematics and engineering and you'll see why. American's dont have the Russians beat on everything, but they come close.
@vukashin88 Russia is known for copying US aviation technology (ie. Blackjack bomber). I say this because the C-5 entered service in 1969 and the AN-124 entered service in the early 80s. The AN-225 entered service in the late 80s. It uses the same engine the AN-124 uses (D-18). Generally speaking I wasn't too serious as the distinct sound of all three of these aircraft is a characteristic of large, high-bypass ratio, turbofan engines. 747s make a similar sound.
Soon, planes that large will be miniscule in comparison to others and planes that are the same size as this one will move at the speed of a fighter aircraft.
at 0:46, my Uncle is flying that grey C-130H at the hold short. He told me when the 225 took off the C-130 was shaking from all the jet blast that Cossack was producing even though they had to stay further back!!
Dang thing doesn't even look like it's moving that fast! I got to see one of these in Pakistan back in 06 and it is pretty amazing to watch the behemoth take off lol.
@ashfaqul11 No, USSR, because in the time that baby was built there was no Ukraine. Don't make me teach you your own history. And if there was, that thing would certainly havent been built. I mean, what do you guys build today, 20 years after USSR dissolved?
Antonov Aeronautical Scientist/Technical Complex (Antonov ASTC) is a Ukrainian aircraft manufacturing and services company. This aircraft was developed by ukrainian design bureau during the collapse of the USSR. It has nothing to do with Russia. So call things right - UKRAINIAN PLANE.
In Sovjet Russia, everything is crazy ^^. I'm amazed how you'd lift that in the air with such tiny (Compared to rest of the aircraft, the engines itself are massive) engines.
Cycool100, your so ignorant you make me laugh, 1000 ft for a plane is low you would piss your pants, this thing probably has a flight ceiling of around 100,000 ft.
You can insult the Russians all you want, but they know how to engineer planes, especially the heavy transports. I can't imagine the operating costs on this beast.
Actually its not the jet engines which will get the aircraft to fly.
Its massive main planes (Wings) are the ones which will get these beasts in the air.
Engines just propell the aircraft forward so that the aircraft runs into the air and the reaction forces of this air above and below the wings produces LIFT.
AN-225 holds world record for the maximum pay load capacity which is 250 tonnes.
overall Max Take off Weight of this aircraft is approx 550 tonnes
@jambalorikilla, Max take off weight is not 550 tonnes its 640. When the plane was overhauled in the early 00's its floor was reinforced so it would be capable of loads exceeding 250 tonnes.
Take off is the hardest part. Once in the air the friction of the air becomes the main force to overcome not the weight itself, and since the enormous wings (needed to create enoug lift for such a heavy plane) create a lot of that plenty of power is needed. The heavy weight will affect range though.
I love it. And by the way, the plane did not have a hard time getting off the ground. The take-off run was about the same as for jets 1/3 its size at HNL.
"aye comrade, we needz an aeroplane for to transport ze teeny tiny space shuttle zat we haz."
"oO look crooze ship! ok, we'll take zat, strap on some big azz wings and 6 engines...give it ze 20 sets of wheels and zen we haz it! biggest plane evar! woo."
