I'd never heard of this song before last night. I was watching my DVDs of Season Two of 'The Muppet Show', and they did this song. It's been stuck in my head all day. What a catchy song.
Honestly, Mike Curb is the only guy I wish would have put a ring on Karen Carpenter's hand. When your in the spotlight with all kinds of touring & different scheduals, sometimes it just don't work out. Mike is a real super down to earth guy.
I hear this song and suddenly I am 3 years old. It's 7 am and my dads am clock radio has just clicked on CFRB with Wally Crouter. Makes me happy and sad at the same time.
..love Mike Curb. What a guy---remember when he was Lt. Gov. of California, Gov. Moonbeam left for a tour of Africa with Linda Ronstadt, and Curb did all kinda hi-jinks (political) as soon as Jerry was outa town. What a sense of humor--Jerry Brown's a little on the serious side, tho', and didn't think it was that funny. Us taxpayers dexerve SOME fun, don't we? Mike Curb thought so....
@MrTrashcan1 .... just saw your note, Mr. Trashcan--after 9 mos. I decided (20 yrs. ago) California was a lousy place to do business(timber); moved it to Idaho and never looked back. It's the land of opportunity here in comparison. Most obvious difference is the absence of meaningless, almost hilarious (except for the cost to the consumer, ultimately) layers of bureaucracy.
I don't even visit there very often anymore. Even the bureaucrats (CSEA) leave there when it's time to retire.
Not a hit in the UK, but must have had a lot of radio play because I remember it very well. the Sammy Davis version is my favourite. He gives it (and everything he sang) soul.
1 second ago I LOVE Bubblegum music. We need more music like this today. So much music today has to "say something". Let's put the fun and lightheartedness back in popular music.
I just heard "Burning Bridges" for the first time on a local nostalgia station. I don't recall my local station ever playing it back in the '70s. I agree that I like them both.
You can't help but feel good after listening to tthis one. This tune has been recorded many times, and thankfully a lot of versions can be found on YT, but this is by far the best one. Thanks, Mr. T1!
tasty for christmas :) ...i don't know how&why but...the association brings me here

@shuntguy Isn't it great how songs can take you right back to a certain time in your life. That is my favorite thing about music

@baldrad If you're still in CA, you've got my sympathies. Never saw people so dedicated to self-destruction.

Bobby Sherman also recorded this song for one of his albums. This song is so similar to those recorded by The Brady Bunch.

@carlynutt
Right Bobby did do this song as well as Mike Curb, but who's version is the original?
cmulwee001 1 year ago
@cmulwee001 I think the original was by the Mike Curb Congregation as it was the one used in the film, The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart.

What's funny is how radically different this is from "Burning Bridges", which is the other song this group is known for. I like both of them, though!

@MrTrashcan1 ...have enjoyed many of your postings in various genres, Mr. Trashcan....thanks for your time and fine work.
One of Curb's I keep trying to find is "See you in September". Curb's is the best rendition, hands down.

Filmmaker Charlie Band should have used this as main song for his company´s horror opus GINGERDEAD MAN, with Gary Busey
