  • i do hav 1 bushynose pleco

  • Just got some peppermints today bout 2 months old they fight over the spot next to the filter

  • how do you tell there gender

  • @65nedilem

The bristles on the male are much much bigger.

  • Haha, I got only one which may be good or bad. Does anybody know approximately how long it takes them to grow to full size?

  • I am not sure exactly, but you can tell whether they are male or female by about 5 or 6 months and they are able to breed at about 12 months old.

I guess they get to about their adult size between 6-12 months old but can probably still grow in size up to about 18 months.

  • thanks

  • Hmm they must really hate each other...

Are they from the same clutch or diff?

  • Yes, they are brothers and like many siblings, they do like to have the odd battle. ;O)

  • lol that was funny, i have 2 bristlenoses, one albino and 1 regular, they havent fough at all.

  • Well, not as far as you know. They may have had battles when you weren't looking and may have already decided who is boss. ;O)

Catfish, as I'm sure we all know are often more active at night than during the day.

  • bristlenose plecos can be quite aggresive when defending territory and also when eating

  • R u sure these r not like "leopard fish"? They sure act like it and leopard is a cat.... and I believe they sweem too ;)

I am assuming these r males.. now do they actually have a reason to fight?

  • bristlenose is a common name for them. the full name is Loricariidae Ancistrus sp3. i think there is a variety that has the common name leopard fish but it is a different type from these.

it is hard to tell if the ones seen fighting here are males or females as they are still a bit young to sex but i know that my male and female parents do fight like this a bit occasionally. the fighting as far as i can tell is a pecking order dominance battle to establish who is top fish and ...

  • ... to see who has the right to be 1st to the food and choose the best bit of the tank etc. their fins get a little frayed when they battle but it is not permanent damage and i don't think they hurt each other much or at all during the fights.
