  • Well that coming from the greatest.

  • "Be black" thats all

  • The best way to improve jumping high : be black

  • I am 5'9 and 2 months ago i could only dunk 9 and a half feet, I wasn't realy into basket ball until now and I like it a lot and i am getting good, and now I can dunk 10 ft. All I did was run, ride my bike, and just kept jumping for 10 ft until i got it, I literately just reached and reached and jumped and jumped and didnt stop and finally I got it.

  • only ways are:

    1. be tall (at least 6'1-6'2)

    2. or train obsessively on lower body strength and overall fitness:- squats, glutes, calves, abs, and running...also plyometrics.

    3. or be MJ

  • ive just come back from the weird part of youtube and i wanted to leave a message. DONT GO THERE!

    stick to normal human shit.

  • rofl i know it is a nike trade mark. It still leaves the kid's intention and usage of that trade mark open for broad meanings. I just spoke in general and to all. Didn't even refer to this kid directly. whatever his intentions are.

  • @JuggernaughtJump

Ok. I had no intention to provoke your anger to the point of calling me stupid and yelling at me. I don't know you and I was in no way trying to make a mockery out of you. It was meant to be a general "joking around" just as you..said..your comments weren't directed at me...Anyways, I acknowledge how my comment can be open to interpretation. (I think one of my comments..the one that got you fired up..was deleted as well)

  • @riceycakey ye i can't see the one that says it's a nike trade mark. That's the one that irritates quite. it suddenly disappears!

  • JUST DO IT

  • Just jumping won't cut it. MJ is not a God. He is not infallible on everything. So in most cases 40 - 50 inches max effort jumps, may equate to tremendous strength levels. YOU might fortunate with 45 inches at 2 x own weight full squat. It could even took 10 years. I promise training will drain you if you only give it a short time. It'll screw and make you feel shit. Not unless you're freak.

  • @riceycakey NOPE! didn't hear Jordan say a shit about that nike slogan.

  • Vince Carter probably came out his moms womb riding a bike.

  • well gotta go get a bike

  • I am 175 cm height and I've been doing squats every day and in 5 months I did my first dunk.

  • Air Alert Works.

  • Mike aren't jump Mike are fly

  • thumbs up if you can dunk. (i cant dunk)

  • These techniques work, I increased my vertical from a 43 to 50

  • I promise. Do squats 3 times a week 8-10 sets. Start off with light weight high reps and work up to heavy weight low reps for the last 4-5 sets. Also get a 2x4 and do barefoot calf raises. Heel on ground. Aim for 250 a day until the extreme soreness leaves your calves then gradually work yourself up to 500 a day. Practice dunking on an 8ft-9ft goal. Do 20 or so dunks. Stretch, stretch, stretch. Do this 3 months and I promise you'll be dunking. For those that can already dunk, you'll be flying.

  • I'm white, time throw in the towel.

  • The big misconception with jumping higher is that people will always say "i've been doing calf raises everyday yet i still can't jump as high." a lot of it has to do with your hips, especially two-footed jumps. of course your calves have a majority to do with jumping because that's your explosive muscle when you do leave the ground. it's the last thing that determines how high you jump, but there are other things you can do to jump higher besides exercising your calves.

  • how to get bigger hands so u can hold a basketball in one hand ? ;D

  • @wartime1985 Masturbating will make yo hands get better control

  • @carlitouus1 funny ... no ...

  • 12 years old boy from Serbia DUNK! 5' 10" .. Type On SEARCH

  • but for srs advice guys, do powercleans, powersnatches, calf raises and barbell squats

  • hey guys stop saying be black and all of that stuff. Its simple black players are usually better athletes and white players are usually smarter.Thats the balance of natuere

  • @MyGreg41 You misspelled nature. I'm sure it's just a typo though lol

  • He said it right but I think this ESPN generation is obsessed with dunking. Steve Nash has been cracking high flying dudes for 15 years now and Gary Payton was a groundhog just to name two. It's more about how quickly you get off the ground and positioning than actual vertical. But if you go to the playground with a good groundhog game you will likely get overlooked for the dunk artist who may be a one-trick pony.

You can outplay the dunk guy but if he gets one poster he'll outshine.

  • @readmore2008 you're right

  • @MyGreg41 Oh here we go again with the quatre back theory. Jordan was the smartest player of his era alongside Bird and Magic. He wasn't just a supreme athelete.

  • dude that did not help at all

  • Does that mean I'll never dunk lol this sucks

  • @datbabydino No you can dunk, it's just that Michael Jordan doesnt understand how to increase your vertical jump, he got it from the time he was a child because, you heard it, he said he rode his bicycle alot , now you can recruit fast twitch muscles if you want to jump higher, just do every workout you do explosively because when jumping you dont get prepared for it 10 minutes u jump instantly, and that's how you gotta workout, the same technique with jumping = same technique with working out.

  • i believe i can fly!

  • 0:26 = HE SHRUGGED!!! :):):)

  • "I really don't understand the physics of jumping and how you increase that."

That's because you're Michael Jordan, meaning physics don't apply to you.

  • @GuyNamedCarl hehehehe! con-deluded! physics will always apply in every single body and mass in this universe.

  • michael is right i jump around all the time, im 5ft1, chinese, 12 and i have a 36 inch vertical its crazy

  • @llDellMango Liar. I doubt an asian kid can jump higher than the average nba player...

  • @mingonk i can record it 4 u and put it on youtube and we should be able 2 jump high cus we no kung fu

  • @llDellMango Go ahead

  • @llDellMango ya if you have a 36 inch vertical then my dads harry potter

  • @iBalllikemj im not lying lol im 35% black

  • @llDellMango cool

  • by this he meant that he taught gravity how to disregard him step by step

  • step 1. be black

    step 2 . be black

    step 3 . be black

  • someone can write what he said?? I don't understand because I'm a really bad listener in english!

  • @morenorazzainferiore he said... "I don't really understand the physics of jumping, i guess what I did when I was a kid was ride a bycicle alot and just try to jump/dunk..."

  • @LeeRahmielV1516 Run towards free throw line. Jump towards basket at free throw line. Fly for a few minutes. Enjoy a cold beverage during your flight. Slam dunk. How hard can it be?

  • do plyometrics. you just basially do 2 step 2 legged jump drills, and running 1 legged jump drills, reaching for say, a rim. and dont forget, spud webb jumped just as high as mike back in the day

  • can u teach me how to do the free throw line dunk???

  • Step 1 - Be Black

    Step 2 - Be Black

    Step 3 - Be Black

  • @lvvvftykitft5 now u get it! lol

  • @lvvvftykitft5 stop being rude what are you white and want to be black or are you saying that to be funny because its offensive to alot of people that are black

  • im white though....................

  • To jump higher you firsthave to visualize yourself defying gravity, floating above the Earth like Michael Jordan. Then take your candy ass to the gym, start jumping rope (100 reps x 6 sets), squatting medium weight (25 reps x 5 sets), leg presses with heavier weight (10-12 reps x 5 sets) and finish off on the vertimax machine (10 reps x 5 sets) or substitute calf raises if the vertimax isn't available (25 reps x 5 sets)... Now get to work, jerk!!

  • OMG this was so helpful ..... NOT

  • Such profound wisdom...

  • dat woz cool ass

  • well thats right, keep jumping jumping, try touching the net, try touching the rim, try taking the rim, try getting ur whole hand above the rim, try dunking with 1 hand, try dunking with 2 hands. that isnt all though. you need strong arms&body to actually make that dunk, and to actually USE that dunk. jumping high doesnt mean you can use your dunks in-game. you gotta get used to all kinds of jumping (from stillstand, from 2 legs, 1 leg, from running etc etc)

  • ton times:

don't ask jordan how to jump high because he's natural.

Ask a real long term athlete who worked for years and years and he'll tell everything and coach you for whatever it is:

run fast, get stronger, get bigger, jump higher...

Overall! Now go away! most of you know no shit!

  • @JuggernaughtJump

So jordan wasn't a long term athelete who worked for years and years? All of the nba players spend more time in the gym than in practice smartass. You obviously have no idea what kind of level your body has to be on for you to even think about playing in the nba.

  • @unjabajunja playing nba demands. but that's not the point of my emphasis. my emphasis is that jordan on the subject of jumping higher is already natural and can jump INITIALLY without any resistance training. He only needed resistance training when on the purpose maintaining or gaining explosive strength while absorbing hits and prevent injury cause of the drops and the high plyometric volume on these about 4 times own weight worth of forces. You WILL get injure in nba even you jump high.

  • The one who says you have to be black to be able to jump high, then you definitely never heard of Blake Griffin.

  • @DuGWBB hes half lol

  • @DuGWBB blake griffin's dad is black :|

  • Why do I see so many stupid remarks like "oh u got to be black to jump high" wtf when I went to school out of 3,000 black kids, only about 10 jumped high. Stop wit da nonsense

  • Damn! MJ's got a pair of gloves for hands. Look @ them things! lol Basically as big as the damn ball it's self. lol

  • How to jump higher: Be black.

  • @Magicxskater Actually if all you white kids would get off your asses and get outside and work on your jumping skills you would be able to jump. Put the damn twinkies, soda's and xbox down and do something about it. Look at Jacob Tucker he is white and only 5'10" tall but can touch the rim with his head. BTW I am white and when I started I only had about a 29" vert but I worked my ass off and got it up to 38" and can dunk fairly easy.

  • @DoubledUpIrish Holy shit, you ever heard of i fucking joke, I'm not lazy and i can jump fairly high i play basketball and football, so chill.

  • DAVID THOMPSON IS FLYING BIRD

  • lol @ 0:26

  • 311 white kids watched this video lol

  • I will never stop riding my bike again

  • @ChillyCloth LMAO

  • @ChillyCloth Theres 23 likes on your comment-Michael JOrdans Number

  • @KKmaster124

    Nice.

  • He is a damn good ventriloquist!

  • War if he coach the Lakers next year

  • Uphill sprints and squats help a lot.

  • Obviously a white guy asked this question.

  • This is gold he tells people the truth here. developing a complete game is more important than jumping. Ive seen dudes that can do the vince carter elbow dunk who are such defensive liabilitys that they cant even play for stretches in games cause the team defense keeps getting torched. but hey the dude looked good in warm ups so thats all that matters i guess.

  • Michael: I don't really know how i got so good at jumping, except maybe the fact that im black.

  • @101zorker he's still an anomaly among black men, so stop being so jealous.

  • Step 1 - Be Michael Jordan

Step 2 - Be Michael Jordan

Step 3 - Be Michael Jordan

  • @poet279 You cant BE Michael Jordan. No one can BE Michael Jordan. He is the one and only. If you want to get better.. be you and try yoour hardest.

  • @poet279 that is the perfect strategy!

  • @poet279 nba and tfb exist because a lot of people DO jump high. weather it is genetics or professionally trained athletes, there's always tons more folks than that. you are probably thinking nba exist because there's few folks or 1 folk. in reality this is mere personal intuition. together with the fact that there are so much more, SO MUCH MORE an averager could do with his jump. literally tons of angles and approaches to improve ones jump

  • manimaduck hes the best basketball player ever hes a legend

  • ....or just be black

  • Did this guy used to play basketball?

  • @manimaduck wtf u smoking?! His MJ bro

  • @povlump Does he coach basketball?

  • easy. bicycle

  • Look at these weak comments:

"He Doesnt Wanna Share His Secrets"

Most of them never trained. I see most of them came from high school as zombies and already doing between the legs dunk. However they gain mass over time. It takes time.Jumping high is just an expression of strength and strength IS the key. Strength > speed. but not everyone lifts more. Tall people jumps high but lift less. For the rest, get a gym membership

  • I heard from some people that riding a bicycle actually decreases your vertical leap, beacuse cycling is not explosive movement for your legs, and you really increase only your endurance. Do you think that's true?

  • @TheKrajnik18 That's not true.Actually,I think it's quite stupid.

  • @Gunsmith2584 I also think it's not true, but maybe it has some effect for those proffesional cyclists, who are cycling 24/7. I hope it doesn't decrease your vertical :)

  • @TheKrajnik18 logically, yes. and in my experience i have definitely found it to be true. you want to stick to explosive exercises like you mentioned - plyometrics, bounding, skipping on one leg for 50 - 100 skips and then trying to do double unders on one leg, sprinting, (weighted and rapid) squats, depth jumps, box jumps and generally any form of jump. unless you're using a short neutral gradient cycle as a warm up as you would jog, i wouldn't go too heavy on it.

  • i had high hopes because it was mj but he just told me to ride my bike

  • nice

  • He Doesnt Wanna Share His Secrets!

  • This is beside the piont. it's more fun if u can jump high. would u watch a game of basketball with athletes or yao mings?

  • niggers are the best sportsmen in the world!

  • @weihnachten000 While i wouldnt use your racist term. I agree that african americans are the most amazing sporting people in the world.

  • "To be a better basketball player you don't have to jump high, you just have to utilize the skill which you have been given"

    church

  • Theres the tip:

    "Ride the bicycle a lot"

    lool.

  • yea i've watched this and I can grab the rim now and i'm only 14 and 5"9" now I just need to work on gripping the ball HA HA

  • He showed us that a human can fly ( for a short time )

  • I love how he doesn't try to give you illusions and is straight up honest. Seriously, if you look at all these "high flyers" you'll notice they are mostly just tall with a huge standing reach. The average NBA player is 6'7. At this height everybody can dunk easily. I think you should be realistic about it. If you don't have the genetics, chances are you're never going to dunk. But dunks are not everything. Just enjoy the game with what you've been giving.

    Peace

  • @megatroll thanks your name says it all

  • @firzenfrenzy

    Fuck you kid.

  • @megatroll well, there are many factors or physicalities in leaping not just height. What about the loop holes nate robinson( 3 time dunk contest champion) and spud webb( 2 time dunk champion) is giving to your fallacious stereo. It's not all height or genetics. The size of the muscles, and how efficient the movement is definitely can improve. Where just talking about mass recruitment here. Even beginners recruits 80%!

  • @megatroll ever hear of Spud Webb? He was 5ft. 7 inch. Not exactly average NBA height. He won the NBA dunk contest.

If you don't have the genetics, it'll be expected you won't be able to dunk. Doesn't mean you'll never dunk. If you actually work hard at it, do the exercises, and don't give up after a day, then your chances will greatly increase. Yeah, sure, guys who are 6'7 have it easier, big deal. doesn't mean someone who's only 5'7 will never dunk, they just have to work a bit harder at it.

  • @animecat9137

    Of course I know Spud.

But you have to be realistic. Spud was an insane athlete with a unique jump. Maybe 1 out of 100 has the genetics to build up the necessary muscle fibers, and then he also has to have the will to train. It's not like every 5'7 guy can achieve that. That's just wishful thinking.

  • Comment removed

  • @megatroll im a spud!

  • hey I'm one of your fans Michael I'm 14 years old Filipino.. my dad idolized you too.. so we're so lucky that we can jump high I think I get it in the GENES of my father I'm 14 and my height is 5'4" i can reach a 10ft. rim and sometimes when I toss the ball i can dunk it so I'm so thankful to have this talent.. right now instead of playing basketball I played Volleyball and I can use it very well=)

  • words of wisdom from michael jordan

  • Riding a bike works, my friend was 6'1 and he used to be able to get both elbows rim level... He said he would adjust the speed of his bike so it was very hard to peddle & then try to ride as fast as he could. It would force him to keep pushing explosively to ride at a fast speed.

  • @Kutta85 uhm your coment is if you dont know is putting a bigger bracket on the bike and it would be hard to pedal, but once it starts to get its momentum it will a fast and not that much work to pedal

  • @Kutta85 Thats called an anirobic excersise, it helps you get quick bursts of energy in times of need.

  • "in other words will you jump higher me? keep dreaming".

  • @tobyster01 Looooooool

  • good advice!!!

  • Calf (Calf strength is a big aid..gives the extra boost), and overall leg strength, type of body build and genetics (mechanics) will make it easier for some to jump higher, momentum is very key..how you "take off" will determine your max momentum....body weight to leg strength ratio also plays a big role. Easier for taller people to build momentum. Improve on all these elements, that's my advice.

  • Thank you. Your majesty. thank you for everything.

  • I do exactly the same thing he did. Ridin the bike and try to dunk on higher hoop levels. wow

  • Jumping is all about training especially in basketball, sure working out specific muscles correctly will give you faster results but you also have to know the Technic. You have to stretch your legs and train them. You've got to be able to get a large stride going load your legs and you can actually feel the tension from the ground all the way up your spin. Make sure your back is lent forward slightly. Then release the energy and explode up. Being able to time this with the right speed is key.

  • wow that helped alot....naaaahhhttt

  • I read in a book that jordan's mother used to put salt in his shoes. I wonder if that helps.

  • @OhMyHj Yup you are totally right.....MJ is both Kobe AND LeBron's father.. Idiot

  • Great to know

  • Strength training properly will increase your verticle but you have to do it with low reps, explosive movement, and then go out and practice jumping. Basically the explosive lifting strengthens type 2 (fast-twitch) muscle fiber and then you have to practice actually jumping so that you make the necessary neuromuscular connections. I'm a personal trainer who dunks well (check my vid if you don't trust me) and I use explosive squats, leg extensions, and leg press.

  • @fhendrickspt Shut the fuck up you try hard.

  • @fhendrickspt <<<< This. Unless youre a genetic freak this is how it's done.

  • you don't need weights at all to jump higher, just using your body weight is fine, if you work out the muscle for jumping, it will increase, whether it is your vertical leap or vertical jump

  • No one is king of basketball in fact everyone is king of basketball u know how to shoot u are a king so stop saying people noob or pro u have no right unless u better then them allen iverson rocks more then mj and thanks mj!

  • @pt223cgx fake ass web site!DON'T BUY ANY THING FROM THIS WEB SITE THEY SELL FAKE SHOES!!!

  • oh hail king jordan

  • Micheal doesn't want to give away his secret on how to jump....wtf

  • dumbass if you put 300 lbs on your back.. and you go to jump you're gonna blow your knees... fucking idiot!

  • @Gantchev not if ur name is he-man

  • @Gantchev You mean he's gonna fall and break his spine?

  • @Gantchev

    Damn fucking Gokus lmao =)

  • @Gantchev LOL 300 lbs what the fuck

  • @Gantchev hahahahahaaa

  • @Gantchev NAh nah... you don't need to jump with any added weight. The purpose of jumping is just to practice jumping. You still need strength. To get more out of explosive ability, you just need to go down full squat. For that weight (300 lbs) I doubt an average person or beginner would be able to go up from deep squat for 1 time.

  • So...dont "put" 300 lbs on your back, or play golf....idiot.

  • @Gantchev /watch?v=PojaTgG-TB8&feature=related whats this then?

  • @Gantchev HAHA
