This song is so beautiful. It shows Franz-Joseph and Elisabeth as mortal, with immortal imperfections - not fatal flaws, just fundamental differences in their characters which seperate them.
"If you find any mistakes in the translation, please don't hesitate to let me know!" Quoted from the information box so why are you giving 19sweetgirl91 thumbs downs on her comments? She's only trying to help.
What a beautiful, tragic song... It single-handidly destroys the romantic stereo-types built about Sissi and Franz by the Romy Schneider movies and that Fox Kids cartoon series!
@ninjettifire Well, let' see, because there were SOOOOO many cartoons about Elisabeth airing on Fox Kids in the 90s! Maybe it's the one called "Princess Sissi?" *HEADDESK*
all i can say is: fantastisch! I have a new favorite song... this song moves me every time I listen to it... the performers are great... I am a Filipino so I tried so hard to study the meaning of the song... I can now understand the meaning and I can feel the emotions of this great song. I sing with the performers too and I listen very well to the pronunciation. German is indeed a Romance language...
"But they are not to happen" - if you take the German words very, very literally ("doch sie sind nicht geschehen") then this is correct. But a much more accurate translation is "But they did not happen".
"If you could only once long for my eyes" - should be something along the lines of "if you could, only once, see through my eyes".
Overall fairly accurate, I just thought I'd point those out because this is one of the songs I've translated for fun to improve my German. :)
we meet on the sea, is more like: we look at eachother on the sea.
why has our happiness become so heavy = why is are happiness made so heavy.
I'm not 100% sure my corrections are totally correct, maybe i've made some mistakes in the english sentences, but i do believe the context should be more like this.
Besides that: the subtitles are very good, thank you!
What a beautiful song, thanks for the subtitles!

But I guess in 1:15 it should be "But they did not happen"
A did instead of an are!!!

How greatly performed is that! Maya is a whole lot better, more mature than Pia. Her voice is flawless. Thumbs up as far as possible!

why is are happiness made so heavy.??
i don't think this is correct..you have to say: why is our happiness made so heavy, or?

I don't speak german that well, but i'm dutch, wich is very similar. And I do know the dutch lyrics.
Most of these subs are (almost) correct, or at least the context is.
I've found a few mistakes.
I will not be your shadow, should be i don't want to be you shadow.
If you could only once long for my eyes = if you could only once look through my eyes.
everyone has their own goal...: everyone is'nt correct, it is about the two of them. So it's more like 'both'.
19sweetgirl91 3 years ago
@19sweetgirl91: Perhaps "Each has its own goal" would better capture the meaning?
And on a related note, schwer can also mean difficult, so I think maybe "Why is happiness made so difficult for us?".
Otherwise, I think your corrections were spot on. :)
