@goplanet Yeah, the similarities are uncanny. Darkplace episodes are always either complete hit or miss. The same with the Mighty Boosh episodes. It seems to be a trend in British comedy. I'm not really sure about this, though. American humor doesn't really appeal to me and I read that they're working on a script for a movie adaptation for this. I can definitely see it either being terrible or ''ironically funny''.
@djqwikstop Actually development of the original Garth Marenghi stage show Fright Night would've taken place around 1999 also considering it was nominated for the perrier award in scotland in 2000
@LeviStar21 i loved the explosion part from the first episode, that part had so much emotion, Garth knew what it was like to explode, i cryed when i first saw that part LMFAO
The weird fanged dude with the swollen forehead @ 3:01 is actually a clip from the 80s Buck Rodgers series. It was an episode about a space vampire - scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Ah, I know why this show never got made; they tried to get it aired on FOX. The only decent programing that network ever had was the stuff aimed at kids in the early 90s.
Now, see, if I were mean, I would quote that part where Jack Black says "Like me, he's a former astronaut, but also a gifted actor", and then say "'Gifted actor'? He's definitely not like Jack Black, then". But I'm not mean. So I won't say it.
@cammack07 That's the joke. Besides, Jack's a great actor. He's not playing his usual "rocker-boy" persona in this and it proves what a subtle actor he can be.
Ok Ben, Jack and Owen, it's been 12 years and I'm sure between you guys, there's more than enough money to make this. So I want to know, why am I not sitting, watching an entire series right now??
5:39 The motorcycle walks (er, rolls?) through the door and says that they shouldn't be fighting, that might just be the funniest thing I've ever seen. I don't know why, I can't really explain why I think it is so funny, but I just could not stop laughing.
This sort of reminds me in some way of Garth Merengi's Darkplace. The sort of self parody, and the really cheesy 80's effects made out to be awesome. Such a shame that Darkplace did moderately well, yet this wasn't picked up.
This is seriously one of the best things any of the most interesting things these actors have put out. There are some very clever ideas in here that are laugh out loud funny.
@donutplay I'll believe it when I see it, but yeah, I'd love to see it. I've loved this for so many years, but sadly it wouldn't work well as a show without an epic writing staff. That said, this would be a PERFECT movie/miniseries.
Much of what he did with The Ben Stiller Show was WAY ahead of its time, this project too shows how far ahead of a curve he indeed was. The joke with this show is the homage to a particular genre of shows in the early 80's such as Knightrider, Automan, Greatest American Hero and The Master. But then this goes that step further harking back to Quinn Martin-style action drama like Beretta or Starski and Hutch.
I'm glad to have found it! Great Satire is always misunderstood.
This is hilarious, but probably best left as a one-off. Don't see how this could have worked over time.
