Well as much as she deserved it, Jana didn't get the sixth spot in the team after bombing on bars over the weekend.
I'm all for creating "pressure" situations in order to test who's right and ready for the Olympics, but I also think it can also become a bit of a circus.
I have lots of issues with Jana's form and style, but when she hits, her routines work the COP well.
I'm an Aussie, but I wish the US girls good luck for Beijing. It'll be a great team final whatever the result.
well i dont think that Marta is going to be basing her decision on the male/female coach thing, if push comes to shove she can always go on the floor (that would cause alot of rasied eyebrows and possibly more pressure on the floor) one of the reasons i always thought she didnt (correct me if i am wrong please) go out onto the floor is because she always wanted the gymnast personal coach out there so that they would be more comfortable.
And oh man, I bet it would be crazy pressure if Martha was down on the floor. Then again, maybe not, because I've always thought of the pressure she gives to be that of "will she put me on the team." Once they are already on the team, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Who knows? But thanks for your thoughts!
I'm a little confused about that issue. Here's something I found in article 2 of the COP:
2.1.1 Number of Coaches Permitted in the Inner Circle
- Quals and TF for a complete team: 1 female and 1 male coach, or 2 female coaches. If only one coach, then the coach may be male.
So if I'm reading that correctly, and if this is the only section that addresses what Al's talking about, then it sounds like they'd need a woman if they wanted 2 coaches out on the floor during the team comps.

Either Shayla or Ivana. I'd love to see Mrs. Fong on the floor.

I have no idea what they meant

...but I'm quite sure the 6th spot belongs to Jana. She has been the most consistent gymnast on both Nationals and Trials.
(Sorry for the double posts, sometimes my laptop thinks of its own!)

Yeah. I'm pretty sure Jana will get that sixth spot, too. I sure hope she does. :)

I would say it's Jana either way. Ivana Hong bombed at the trials.

I feel the same way about Sloan, too.

it could also bring more pressure to other countries because they all know who she is and could be more intimidating to those countries

I've always wondered what Romanian gymnasts think of her. And Bela for that matter.

But it certainly doesn't say in this section that they NEED a female coach.

So maybe this is a special rule for the Olympics and is addressed outside of the COP. *Shrug*

thanks for the insight. I guess we'll all find out soon enough who will take that sixth spot. :)
