  • Hmmm I never knew PC users have more latency than mac users??

    Is that right?

  • Nice tutorial vid bro! Just noticed you picked up the XF! Nice!

  • motif classic uses 32MB 8X32-60 2K 72 Pin SIMM

  • Yo just want to say much props and encouragement to Jamal on all your doing man. It's alot of better musicians and producers in the world because of your ministry.

  • Lol!

  • Mr jamal i must admit i never new what a DAW or VST was until i started watching you and st joes from sound and gears videos on kontakt i was in the market for a new keyboard to upgrade from my casio lol ..i bought a XF8 and an audio interface a few days ago i told my wife jamal said i should get it LOL im using my motif as a controller for your samples in kontakt with and ive built a massive library so far for other samples for kontakt just wanted to say thanks for opening my mind to new ideas

  • I know you mentioned Apogee 1 not supporting midi, I looked into the apogee duet 2 and the same thing, it doesn't support midi... Do you think there would be a way around it somehow?

  • Brother, I commend your patience and ability to translate music and tech to folks who are trying to learn!! I do it eveyday(the tech side), its good to see others explain things technical in basic terms!! Keep it up! Blessings :)

  • Another note: for some of you still having problems actually hearing something, make sure that you don't have any other programs open that may have precedence over the audio driver (youtube, media player, iTunes, etc). Some audio drivers only have the ability to play one sound source at a time. That means that if you have another sound source open (youtube, media player, etc) at the same time that you have Kontakt open, you WILL NOT hear sound. Close the other program then re-open Kontakt.

  • @JonnyKeyz I was wondering about that earlier because I was actually trying to play behind a song and then with troubleshooting a little bit, I figured out that it was nothing that I could do and both Kontakt and Itunes couldnt be open at the same time, thanks for this as well. Needed clarity and reassurance of this!!

  • Another thing to add, if you are having problems with slow latency (the time difference between when you actually press a key and when you actually hear the sound), you can download a FREE audio driver for your computer that will eliminate the latency problem and also improve the quality of the sound. Just do a google search for "asio4all" download, install, and then select the asio4all driver in the Kontakt options menu.

  • @JonnyKeyz Thanks alot! I actually have that audio driver(ASIO4ALL) and everything is set in Kontakt. I will make sure I have the other Yamaha driver that you were talking about also. Thanks for your help and thanks for responding. Jamal actually helped guide me through everything earlier but I will see if this other driver gives me a better sound as well, again thanks and God bless.

  • Yo this man was tight son. you can see the frustration lol

  • I understand that connecting through USB out directly into a macbook pro will work.... my question is, what is the perks and advantages if I went out and bought a sound interface?.. that is the only thing that confuses me. thanks for the Info, it's making alot more sense!

  • @hammy2008 If you do not have a sound card, then you would be using your Macbook's speakers to play sounds, which sound pretty crappy. You could also use your headphones. If you purpose is just to practice with a nice EP, then you don't need a sound card, but if you ever plan to go use it live, or do some serious recording on your computer, you need a sound card for the inputs to record vocals or to play live.

  • wow he's pissed... these *iggas is stupid huh

  • @disnukka79 Nawww I'm not pissed!

  • @GospelMusicians They still given you issues bro? Man it's not that hard at all, but then again. People who are coming from keyboards trying to transition to Professional audio set-ups through their PC can be greatly confused. Their biggest problem is most don't have the right hardware to wield those Rhodes. It's like trying to fill your car with rocket fuel, lol.

I don't have the Kontakt version yet but my PC is FAR BEYOND capable of handling it.

  • @GospelMusicians LOL!!! I was thinking the same thing

  • Can sum1 please help? I hav downloaded Kontakt 5 (Free Player), Neo-Soul Keys, activated it & when I open it, it shows Neo-Soul Keys & Factory Selection samples. I hav the keyboard showing at the bottom & everything & it plays through usb midi but its only playing the originial sounds that's on my Motif XS. Sorry if this frustrates anyone, I apologize that I'm not up on all the new tech. Can sum1 direct me as to how my keyboard should be set up in the settings? I have it set to usb right now

  • ALSO TO FINISH MY MESSAGE: everything seems to be working except I cannot play the Neo-Soul Keys samples or the Factory Selection. Just need a little guidance please.

  • @MsTKeyz Make sure that you go to YamahaSynth site and download the USB MIDI drivers for your computer. Then in Kontakt preferences you have to make sure that you choose your Audio Card that you are using and choose the MIDI port. For the Yamaha Motif XS it's going to be MIDI port 1.

  • @GospelMusicians Yes, I have the driver installed (I even use your MIDIKeyz & everything is perfect as far as that) and in Kontakt I have port 1 "on". The rest of the ports need to say "off" correct? My next question is, on my Motif screen, does the name of your samples suppose to show on the screen because I am not even getting that. So sorry for any inconvience, and by the way, I would definately purchase a Tech DVD!!!

  • @MsTKeyz No, the name of the samples are not suppose to show on the Motif screen UNLESS you are int Remote Mode, but that's another issue.

Did you make sure that in your Motif preferences that you turned the MIDI option to USB?

When you play the your Motif XS, do you see the MIDI lights lighting on Kontakt?

  • @GospelMusicians Yes, all of that is done! I was up half the night doing everything you said and researching and I still cant seem to figure this out. The MIDI lights are lighting as well. When I play a note, lights are lighting in the tune box and numbers are moving in the voice area. I just dont know what Im doing wrong.

  • @MsTKeyz I don't get frustrated with people are are trying like you and are making an effort. I just get frustrated when people don't try. You got your XS. your NSK and Kontakt...You are attempting to do it...that's admirable :)

  • @GospelMusicians Thanks Jamal! That really means a lot because I am trying, but I pray that God continues to bless you and your family and you will always have my support. Can't wait for that Tech DVD :)

**I'm really enjoying the Neo-Soul Keys, sounds wonderful

  • @MsTKeyz Make sure you have the audio driver downloaded and installed from Yamahaand that everything is connected before loading Kontakt. Go to the midi options in Kontakt and activate the Yamaha ports. Make sure your audio driver is active in the driver options (This is different from the Yamaha midi driver). Load Neo-Soul Keys. You should hear something play. If not, verify that your computer recognizes you Motif by checking the onscreen keyboard on the Kontakt player.

  • @GospelMusicians I think a technology dvd would be a great idea. In this day and age its a huge plus if a musician can use it and the same way that each musician's skill level is different also applies to their understanding of tech. You're doing great and I look forward to your next project

  • Bro I saw you respond to a BUNCH of people on a forum having problems with the Kontakt version because a lot of them didn't know what they were doing. I feel for you trying to launch a product and a handful of those that are amateurs giving bad reviews because their lack of knowledge, lol.

You were starting to sound burnt out (from a text standpoint) responding to them.

P.S. I'm about to buy the Neo Soul Keys right now, I'm just trying to figure out which to get, Kontakt or Motif???

  • @Krazie316 Depends on what you use more. If you play out more and use your Motif, then use your Motif. If you play more in your studio or record then the Kontakt.

  • @GospelMusicians I was leaning more towards the Motif version since I no longer haul my computer to the church, but it seems the kontakt one is soo much smoother, especially the auto-pan.

Situations like this have me end up just buying both, lol.

  • Thanks, this is great information for the newbie, appreciate it, no one has give as good of an explanation as I heard here. Man I can see you really care which is probably why you are so frustrated. man I have learned gospel stuff from you, neo-soul and now the new technology, again thanks and realize you are making a big difference.

  • @laurenceholley Thanks man...I'm thinking about coming out with a DVD on Technology. What do you think?

  • @GospelMusicians YESSSS!!!!!

  • @GospelMusicians , oh that would be nice, i would buy that, i want to learn this stuff !!! that is fantastic idea, please please do this, you are the best at explaining stuff,

  • O man I just subscribe to this channel because I love the music but with the great info and tech tips im hearing makes this channel even better. You do sound fustrated but I understand im a network tech for 20 years now. believe me i understand your fustration :) thanks for the info and music

  • @jsbattlenet It's only frustrating, because I care. It's mostly the gospel musicians that are light years behind when it comes to technology. Kinda sad!

  • @GospelMusicians yeah, some of it might be due to the fact that many churches don't or can't pay professional musicians or provide training resources to their volunteer musicians. Technology is advancing so quickly - takes lots of resources to keep up or to thoroughly learn what you have (time/$)

  • Can you explain how to pretend? :o)

  • you can also buy a cheap usb to midi converter on ebay and buy a cheap midi keyboard with at least 4-5 octaves. Then choose a DAW (sequencer) of your choice which supports VST's. Thats if you want to do it cheap, or are just starting out.

  • man, you sound really frustrated! the Mox is hardly inexpensive at $1200-$1700. Most people do know technology - all at various levels. you have a high level of tech.knowledge. sometimes techies are the least patient w/non-techies. btw, while the mox cant load samples, sound libraries do exist for the mox (keyfax.com)...just a suggestion, maybe putting up an FAQ on your site would be a way to address the questions that seem to frustrate you. all in all, thxs 4 taking the time to address issue

  • @nah1234561 That's the issue. I DO HAVE AN FAQ, and I still get the same questions :(.

  • @GospelMusicians I hear you....we're all human and get frustrated at times. I'm in the IT support field and understand...I just know that some people get more discouraged when they feel frustration on the other end. Not saying the video was that bad... just not used to seeing frustration come through your videos. Again, thanks for sharing and challenging musicians to excellence. God bless.

  • thanks a lot Jamal. i am one of those gospel musicians that isn't too knowledgeable about today's technology lol but thank you for posting this video. now i know what to do once i purchase my neo soul keys electric piano :)

  • lolololololololol use google

  • People r lazy sometimes they need too utilize the the knowledge of there daw Cubase created Vst they should be able too figure that out and Fruity loops allows you too scan and rescan for plugins and thirdparty stuff and theres plenty of tutorials on these products on YouTube

  • Can you Google on Google?... i better Google ;)

  • You got the XF! danngggg

  • Thank you for the 101

  • THERE ARE ALSO USB TO MIDI CABLES YOU CAN USE WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY A DIGITAL/AUDIO CONVERTER. GOOD INFO BRUTHA, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

  • That is VST, AU (Audio Unit) or RTAS which are the principal component formats for all DAWs.
