that's a classic british house spider. Very common. they hide under fridges, washing machines, floor boards and in windowsills and airbricks. They usually get about that big given a good diet, and are the biggest in the UK i think. Wolf spiders are actually smaller than house spiders and live outside, and the only reason they're thought to be bigger is that the female wolf spider looks quite big when it carries it's egg sack beneath it. House spider larger or equal legspan though, I think.

Tegenaria Atrica - It's a typical house spider. They are venomous in the sence that it's venom is more or less like that of a wasp or a bee. If you are allergic to wasp stings or something like that it could pose a threat. They will only bite if they are crushed or cornered!
