Great! those frets look great too,Dunlop? dimensions?,any suggestions about the shape of headstock- you like? i have some doubts about my guitar, thanks
@despot62 I think the frets are a medium, dont know the maker, will try and find out. As for headstock I tried many shapes couldn't make up my mind, so I went for the open book style which I like.
Thanks for posting. This is without doubt one of the best youtube videos I've seen: sharing a creative experience for the entertainment, education and inspiration of others.
I really digg that. I have similar instrument my self, 40 years old L5 cutaway replica. tailpiece and mechanics must be replaced. the finish has cracked (thats ok with me doe). I woud like to make similar tailpeice as yours. Again, well done and greetings from Norway.
@billyfionamcm thank you Im thinking of making a gibson les paul with flame maple and didnt know what it was called until now thank you :) keep up the good work
I didn't see any reference to working out fret-spacing. Which has to be one of the most important aspects and is the one thing that puts me off making a guitar. I'd probably use hundreds of pounds-worth of rosewood getting it right!
I do agree about the music though. S***ty isn't a word I use, but the singer does sound as if she's in agony somewhere!
There are several ways to overcome your fear of "fret position". One is to copy the fretlength from another guitar (keeping in mind that the length of the nut to the 12th fret and the 12th fret to the bridge have to be the exact length) the other is to use one of the free fret calculators if you want to create your own fret board length. Look up "ExMI's fret calculator" in a browser and it will take you to a site with free calculator. There are several in Excel as well... Good luck!
With some creativity you can build a guitar with a few hand tools. Less then 100.00 worth of tools. As a matter of fact, you can build anything from wood using nothing but hand-tools. So don't let the cost of tools stop you from figuring out how to build your very own hand crafted instrument.
I designed and carved an entire violin in my kithen with one knife that I custom shaped. The arch was carved out , and the top was all shaped by hand carvng. The kneck was cut with a home made bow saw that worked great, and I used a piece of an old broken bandsaw blade to make it. The sides were shaved and scraped with a scraper made out of a piece of flat metal.
i will be making a carbon fibre neck and a wooden body - guitar will be a copy of framus az10. a very nice archtop..what do you think about carbon fibre neck? i think it is lighter than wood, harder than wood, but it look is not as nice as i would want to but..it will be very strong, and they say neck doesnt efect the sound at all ( 5% )
I think I had an orgasm watching this.

really all you need is pocket knife with a locking blade, and you too can make a guitar just like the one in the video.
