@lovinxaviee this movie is not an accurate portrayal of the book. Do yourself a favor and read the book. It is so much better than this piece of crap movie. How they could even use the Monte Cristo title is appalling.
@lovinxaviee actually barnes and noble have it for sale in the classics section. But it is nothing like this movie though. I have the book and both are very good.
For those who have read the unabridged book, this ending is completely disappointing! First of all Edmund never kills Fernand himself, Fernand commits suicide. And Edmund does not recommence his relationship with Mercedes. The book concludes with the Count and Haydee, a key female character with whom the Count falls in love with and that the movie does even allude to, sailing away from the isle of Monte Cristo.
i love how when he shaves his beard off everyone suddenly knows who he is. thats like clark kent taking off his glasses and suddenly no one knows who he is.
@des696969 haha yes far more reasonable than the superman secret identity, and i guess if you take into account all the years that he had been gone it would make somewhat more sense
anyone notice how Fernand's sword just magically reappears in his scabbard? Edmond knocks it out of his hands, then gets his sword broken by Albert, then picks up fernand's yet somehow fernand has his sword again at 2:22.
I was actually so relieved with this ending... I was sure that the son would die, then the girl and when she didn't that Edmund would. But thankfully not every movie these days has to end in tragedy... lol
hey could you upload the rest of the credits. its not fair to the other people involved in the movie. also I think it makes this video slightly more legal if you do.
after watching this movie I only managed to take one thing to heart. Fight a foreigner but don't kill them when you could have and you will have a free butler until their debt is paid! :)
This chick Mercedez is a huge slut that is just desperate in getting laid. Edmund shouldnt have even taken her back. She just married that other guy as soon as she thought Edmund was dead. If thats not a slut I dont know what is.
@dbzfanart1 . . . ? Wait. I only saw part of the anime. And I thought it had NOTHING to do with the original story in the book, and nothing to do with this movie. I couldn't even figure out why they called it "The Count of Monte Cristo" o.O Am I wrong?
@RoyaleZero101 I think he actually said "Now I couldn't live in a world where you have everything and I have nothing" That's why he went back to fight him. Cuz he's way selfish.
I prefer the wrong endings in American rather than British movies. I just watched a British Thomas Hardy movie and the screen-writer had the couple drown at the end...in the book they both lived. Pissed me off big time. This movie was wonderful with a terrific ending just the way I like it. If I want facts I watch documentaries...even then one has to research their facts.
Hahaha rofl ..........jacopos face wen mercedez says albert is Edmonds son .....hilarious like"ohhhhhhhhh shit something gonna go down damn I should've kept some treasure " and mondegos face wen he got owned he he he he
@puddlemini I disagree. That part after Edmond kills Mondaigo and then the son falls to his knees...I think it shows him in shock that the man he knew as his father is dead, killed by the man he trusted as a friend who really is his father.
@sevyyves937 Iunno, its hard for me to keep tracks of the books, and i started watching the anime first without knowing it was actually a movie/book, so i haaaaad~ to watch this
that actress who played Mercedes is so excruciating to watch and hear, she makes me want to push her over the edge just to extract some emotion from her grrr
Have we succeeded? We think so. Before long we shall have covered with our narratives an enormous period of time; between the "Comtesse de Salisbury' and the "Comte de Monte Christo" five centuries and a half are compresed. Well, we assert that we have taught France as much history about those five centuries and a half as any historian. This passage is from The Companions of Jehu which was written by Alexandre Dumas pere.
@13roseofdeath "The minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and make its tool of them."
~ Albert Einstein, letter to Sigmund Freud, 30 July 1932
@13roseofdeath "Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT owing NO allegiance and acknowledging NO responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul this unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today." PRESIDENT THEODORE ROOSEVELT, 1906
@13roseofdeath This passage is from The incredible marquis by Herbert Gorman entitled the soldier of fortune(chapter six) It was natural that Dumas believed implicitly in the magic of somnambulism, in animal magnetism and in chiromancy. No Haitian negro dancing before his Voodoo altar was more superstitious than Dumas. Home, to Dumas, therefore, was an authentically inspired adept in communicating with unseen world.
@Epauling According to the abridged version of the book (that was an awful school project), Jacopo isn't nearly as cool. He was pretty wicked in the movie though. The book is even more of a soap opera with more characters to make life complicated. Check it out :)
I recently watched Shawshank Redemption & laughed when this author was referred to as Alexander Dumbass (by the con who couldn't read). Reminded me of this excellent movie. Fantastic that this movie is available here. Classic. Thanks for the upload authentik39.
What the hell!?! @ 4:27 he blocked the sword with his hand, and his hand didn't get chopped off!?! Are you kidding me!? How rusty can that sword be!? And don't dare tell me it's cause of his leather glove, cause I'd dare you to wear one while I swing a sword at ya!
@NoelCasumpang Actually he blocked it with his forearm, and he did get cut (you can see the blood he even glances at it) These swords weren't meant to kill with cuts, just wound, they were meant to deliver the killing blow with a piercing strike (as you see in this scene).
Ya it probably messed his arm up, but even if he did let it hit him in the head or wherever else it more than likely wouldn't have killed him.
@NoelCasumpang It wasn't just a leather glove, back in the time for duels such as those there were specialty gloves that had some kind of armor that could with stand a slash of a sword...If you watch Jet Li's Fearless it shows it there...
What happened to your mercy???? oh yeah ok....as if the count should stand there and say: I HAVE MERCY..PLEASE PUT THAT SWORD IN ME AND LET ME BLEED TO DEATH
3:48 Kind of strange, I know, but I LOVE this part the most because they forget about the swords and the fancy showmanship and go back to real fighting.
It was not hope,it was hate and revenge.Vendetta.I have watched this film twenty times over the years, and will watch it again, when in the mood for it.Now I must read the book.
Excellent movie. I liked the character of Edmond Dontes for not giving up suffering in such dark prison and taking lessions from the good oldman his prison mate. I think in this film it is also shown that hope makes man survive and win if time permits.
It didn't met my expectations. They changed the plot and I hate it. The book was much better than this one. The story became different and I HATE IT!!!!
@inton2112 You can hate it all you want, as someone who never read the book this is one of my all time favorite movies. Books are usually better, more power to you for liking it better, but this movie stands on it's own merit in my opinion. A classic.
@godsentyes Absolutely a modern classic, this film. The Dumas book, if followed closely, will be an entire 20 episode series. The movie stands on it's own.
so the moral is - without money you cant do anything in this world. imagine how dumb it would be if Dantes appeared after 13 years and 'seeking revenge' but still a pauper. they'd just laugh and throw him back in jail. nobody gives a shit if youre a 'good man'. they just care if youre a 'powerful man'. my fave guy is actually Fernand, ruthless and rich. its guys like him that thrive in the real world. nice film though :)
Ive never read the story-but I had heard that in the book he does not get Mercedes back? Does anyone know if this is true? I'm afraid to read the book because I don't read other peoples fiction-I like to write and don't want to be accidently influenced by someone elses wording?...also I had heard that the character "The Count of Monte Christo" was a metaphor representing The Jesuit order in Roman Catholicism,so thats why he doesn't get the girl? Can anyone help me out? Or am I just crazy?
He doesn't marry again Mercedes, but he forgives her.In his travels in Orient he saves a princess,Haydée,and he uses her as his servant,a rich servant. She fells in love with him,and at the end he let her free, but she doesn't want to leave,so they leave together. Sorry ,but I'm not English :S
@TheStaticage01 The movie is waaaaay different than the novel. There are more characters in the novel, which I think they are importand to the plot. Dantes never took Mercedes back. A princess, Haydee, who Dantes sets her free falls in love with Dantes and in the end they leave together.
You should really read the book, it's really good :)
remember kids revenge is a dish best served cold ;D the movie is a renaissance version of scarface lol kinda...

so the moral is - without money you cant do anything in this world. imagine how dumb it would be if Dantes appeared after 13 years and 'seeking revenge' but still a pauper. they'd just laugh and throw him back in jail. nobody gives a shit if youre a 'good man'. they just care if youre a 'powerful man'. my fave guy is actually Fernand, ruthless and rich. its guys like him that thrive in the real world. nice film though :)
