I do deffinitly not considder myself a accomplished drummer, which could only be the result of many years of hard work. I do have though, many years of playing and enjoying music experience, which I now try to share in my teaching practice called "Percussieschool Bracumba".
Thanks for sharing that! i just learned this pattern and added to my toolbox. As long as the pattern is in time and feels good why is it necessary to say one is more authentic that another one? Where is the freedom to improvise? Who are the percussion police?
That was very good, but there are a few critiques I have. I think you are playing the tom melody on the wrong end of the clave. The very tricky part of guaguanco is that the melody is played on the 2 part of the 3-2 rumba clave. Its difficult because it makes you play against the clave. It was perfect other than that, i just know that (in my afro-cuban book at least) the bass drum is on the 3 part and the tom melody is on the 2 part. That could also be a difference of books though.
You are playing the clave "cruzao" (crossed). The first two tom hits can not sound in unison with the 1 and 2 of the 3-2 clave. In other words, change to 2-3 clave and you´ll be right. By the way , you shouldn´t play cascara in rumba guaguanco. Any way this rhytm should work in a Latin jazz context. As far as north american musicians play it.

Correct !

@buisk I think instead of switching to a 2-3 clave that the tom melody and bass drum part should be switched.
