  • :/ i personally have weak/bad shoulder tendons. they ache and click if im not really deliberate with my pullups, lat pulldowns, or other shoulder/lat workouts. doing something like this would certainly just injure my tendons or ligaments rather than make them stronger. it really looks like it puts alot of stress on your joints. plus, this just looks like a cheap excuse for a real pullup anyway. fuck off asshole.

  • @geoffcraft Dude, kip pullups and regular pullups aren't the same.The great thing about pullups is that they localize all the work on the upper back muscles, the deltoids, the biceps, and the abs. When you do kip pullups you are using your momentum and the elasticity of the bar to pull yourself up.That's not to say that you aren't using your arms to pull yourself up;you clearly are, but don't say that you can do fifty real pull ups in a row.Doing kip pull ups only measures coordination

  • @pacifiedfools two different goals.. and I think you should try it. You still generate that momentum, and you weigh the same when you kip, you just use more than your back. If you compare this to "half-pullups" you can see that his arms go completely straight between each rep. I can't argue with the point about the bar, but I've never used one of those gymnast bars..

    Remember all the kids in the playground on the monkey bars? Those kids are NOT strong. You are not showing ANY display of strength, only a display of momentum. The initail lift is negated by momentum, instead of using ur latissimus dorsi. At the very most, u are using ur hip flexors to swing.

  • @yojamyeoh Yeah there's a display of momentum, but it's not ALL momentum. Kipping or no kipping it's still exercise. I'd rather see kids on a set of monkey bars than playing Xbox anyday. Check out his other videos. The guy is strong and has great control over his own body. As far as him not being ripped, that's more a matter of diet.

    2. They do help cardio better then regular pullups, but running is even better for your cardio.

    3. They wont make you stronger, thats just stupid. Regular pullups will make you stronger because they focus on the muscle not momentum.

    Im starting to get annoyed of all these people trying to show off how many pullups they can do but yet they have to do kipping pullups. Failure of an exercise

Try looking at his other videos, particularly the 90 degree pushup/planche pushup ones; seems to me, this kind of training works, well for him anyway, so I think he knows what he's talking about. You on the other hand probably cannot even do 10 kipping pullups to begin with. Post a vid to show off your skills.

  • Doing pull-ups like that is ONLY cheating, if that is the ONLY way you do pull-ups ALL the time. If you dont change your routine around your body will plateau in progress. Explosive exercises is one of the best variations to stimulate muscle growth.

    BTW: nofightsnecessary is correct, using a flexable gymnastic bar is misleading, to just for us viewers, for for yourself. You will never know for sure, if your progress is improving strength wise, or are you using the flexable bar better

  • Higher speed of executing and leg wiggling doesn't make kipping pull ups more intensive that regular ones. It makes it more explosive, but upper body tension (because of the lower body assistance) is waaay lower, so you need more time to achieve the same level as a person doing regular wide grip pull ups. I'm in calisthenics for like 5 years now (so you can spare me telling that I don't know what I'm talking about) and I've tried many various ways of exercises. M

  • @startingover101 Kipping pullups are fine, as long as people don't compare them to normal deadhang pullups. Personally, I have no idea what kind of form to even use for a kipped pullup, but I'm okay with other people doing them. I've gotten used to doing Marine Corps style pullups anyway. I suppose kipped pullups do activate other muscles and help with cardio, but I'm not looking to work on leg muscles or cardio when doing pullups.

  • 71grandprix - it's not about being able to purely doing "pull ups" - crossfit is about using you're body in a functionality accurate way so that one can move load over distance as quickly as possible while keeping fatigue to a minimum - using core muscles driving from the hips to generate power. It's great that you can do that many pure pull ups at your weight, but you're missing out on the explosive power that crossfit offers.  So helpful across the full spectrum of athelic activities.

  • I've noticed that all these so-called cross fit fellows do these retarded humping the air pullups if you can call them that. When I was their weights I could do 55 military dead hang pullups "no kipping allowed" and I can still do 8 currently at 292lbs so this stuff isn't very impressive. Oh yeah and if the way that they do it is sooo good then why have they all got such small backs and arms.

It is not about appearance, but its about being fit and doing crossfit really benefits athletes since all the exercises are not isolating one muscle( for example bicep curls), but are done in an athletic motion like boxjumps or kipping pullups!
