It's a Northern Cardinal. I have two that visit me almost every day, a father and a son born just this summer. Their song is gorgeous, though the father hasn't sung for me in a long time. Hopefully he will start again in the sprint. I have pics of mine on my site. Go to my channel, go to my site and clik on Picture(s) of the Week. You can enlarge each pic by clicking on them
Thank you . I haven't seen them since this summer . There is a gas well being drilled near my house and they have been cutting down the trees along that side of the creek behind my house . I hope they return in the spring .
They tend to be creatures of habit. If they have claimed your back yard as their own, they will be back and it's clear that they have, since you said that you've been trying to capture them for a year. They REALLY like black sunflower seeds (they are cheap at Target) and you can keep them around longer by setting those out. You must live somewhere cool? So perhaps they flew south. I live in Hawaii, so mine visit me year round.
I live in Texas and this time of year it is cold and rainy . That's a good tip about the seed . It is so nice to wake up and hear that song first thing . The best way to have my day start .... that and coffee .
