By far one of the top 10 beautiful women in history. Flawless face, INCREDIBLE legs. I have yet to see a woman with better legs. Amerie is a dead tie. RIP to her.
Even though she was beautiful with a bald head, she was more beautiful with her hair, in fact, too beautiful to be shaven bald. A woman with her tremendous beauty is just too beautiful to be seen bald.
I am of the opposite opinion of many commenters on here; I think she is most beautiful with her hair. :) Even though she does have an interesting beauty with a bald head. :)
For women to look good bald, they need to have a slender neck, a distinct jawline and prominent cheekbones. Natalie Portman can pull it off, Virginia Hey in Farscape looked fine. Britney Spears on the other hand really didn't look good bald.
I just had my head shaved yesterday. I thought of Persis and how beautiful she looked. I think if she we're still living and kept the bald look I think many more wormen would be willing to try it. I for one am vey happy with my look and I've done it several times in the past. Persis will never be forgotten.
Poor Persis. She looked so sad as the scissors cut the first of her locks off and again when the clippers made the first pass through her gorgeous tresses.
That's "So" sad that she died back in 1998 from a heart attack............Not only was she "Absolutely Gorgeous" on the outside, she was pretty on the inside as well......She will "Always" be "Forever Missed." :(
Now that's courage, she had her head shaved long before there was any trend or culture to rally behind it. Now you can walk around in a meat dress and get applause.
i am khambatta i have given my daughter name persis too when i met her she had smile of angel i am sad she died too early because of smoking (please pretty girls don't smoke)
@yazdik Persis Khambatta had her first heart bypass surgery at age 35, and died of a heart attack at age 49, not from smoking. Seems like it was a cogenital heart defect.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Persis Khambatta who was born October 2, 1948 in Bombay, India. She was an Indian model, actress and former 'Miss India' best remembered for her roles in the film 'Star Trek' and 'Nighthawks'. She died of a heart attack August 18, 1998 age 49.
The Motion Picture was the best, far and away, I think. It had the deepest plot of all. It did have less action, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Say what you want about Star Trek: The Motion Picture -- Persis Khambatta was absolutely incredible looking with hair AND without. Incredibly beautiful.
She looks way more beautiful after she's been shaved bald. Such a brave thing to do way back in the 70s. She pioneered the look for all the women who've done it since.
@quackimaduck000 Well you have to remember, she was Miss India! She was a beauty queen! When you're someone like that who prizes your looks it's kind of rough on you when something like that changes. It was probably humbling and broke her pride a little.
What would be the point of shaving only part of it? Besides a skull cap would take too long to apply every day and even Persis said it would ruin her hair. Better to shave it off and stay bald for the duration of the film. Persis said she was bald for seven montrhs and had thicker better-quality hair afterwards. She enjoyed being bald and claims she had plenty of dates because of it.
Absolutely right. And besides, bald caps never look real.
I've been aware of the existence of this footage for years, but this is the only place I've been able to find any of it. Wouldn't mind seeing an unedited version.
eventhough She was a gorgeous woman, She was miss India in 1965, and went to the miss universe pageant in 1965, She did not place, the miss universe 1965 was miss Thailand Apasra Hongsakula. but as an actress She became a star.
It was: if one takes into consideration her background > reputation as a beauty queen & glamour model: not to mention how this significant sacrifice would be received by her husband > children (?) > family, etc....
I can't imagine very many women back then would have happily chosen to have their heads totally shaven without feeling some appreciable degree of emotion.
For this reason Persis should be mercifully forgiven.
I believe she was only paid $35,000 for the part. That wasn't that much money even in 1978 especially that she had to shave her head. She should have been paid 100 times that amount. Such a beautiful woman with hair or without.
@variousiroiro Uh, I think you missed my point. jdewitt77 said "She should have been paid 100 times that amount." 100 times $35,000 is $3,500,000. I simply stated that $3.5 million for a debuting actress would be hart to accept, especially in 1978-79.
@jdewitt77 The movie had very little money to spend - so it was basically "Take what we can pay you or leave." They had to spend some extra cash for Leanord Nimoy and tech. effects.
She should have kept that look for awhile longer. She would have been the center of attention at the Oscars that's for sure. Imagine how jealous many other women would have been had they seen a bald woman getting all that attention after they spend so much time and money on their hair.
she looks absolutely stunning with a bald head though, I can understand any woman (especially) getting upset at the prospect of losing her hair ... but Persis proves that this can sometimes be a very positive move ... sadly Persis died of a heart attack in 1998 ... such a sad loss.
um...y did she have her head shaved? was it for a movie, punishment, tradition, or just plain fun? she cried so she probably didn't enjoy it but at the end she smiled so i guess she's okay. please look at my Percy jackson Chat rooms and please subscribe to me.
Back in college (c.1997) I knew a girl who kept her head shaved. She still looked great. Then she grew her hair back and she looked HORRIBLE. Her hair looked like sofa stuffing!
I said to myself "no wonder she kept her head shaved all these years"!
She must have felt much cleaner, cooler, and lighter afterwards. A great hairstyle for the summer and very refreshing to the skin. and easy to maintain too.
She looked absolutely extraordinary, after her head had been clean shaven properly: as she obviously seemed to realize when seeing the end result in the mirror....hence the reason why she instantly became so happy.
It's such a sad pity that she is no longer with us.
I feel like crying at the loss of such a great person, and wonderful woman.
For me personally she is not only the most beautiful & courageous bald headed woman in movie/TV history: but also the woman by which all other shaven headed women should be judged!
You could see her visibly fighting with her emotions from the beginning, and even crying as the last half of her lovely flowing black hair was about to be sheared off.
If this isn't testament to her true dedication > ambition to be a great actress at virtually any cost, then I dunno what is?
I like the part, at about 1:43, where she reaches up to touch her hair and it falls off in her hand! She was a very beautiful woman and that film was a milestone for me. Thanks for posting it.
This is a wonderful headshave and I can remember her having it done for the film. She refused to wear a bald cap and bravely had all her hair shaved. I think Persis looks stunning without her hair.
She was very beautiful with or without hair.I did like the hair though.
