you know what's weird? if you look at his shoes when he's walking it seems slow but if you look down at the view count/or around it looks like he's walking at super speed....
@Maklolm No, no bending at all as the underlying structure (the belt corpus) is extremely stiff. I was standing on it myself with more than 100kg and not a millimeter.
Combine this concept with microsofts kinect and some kind of vr headset and you have the apparatus to simulate fully immersive 3d environments. Combine this all with real time data from urthcast or google earth type tech and you may never need to leave your home again........awesome;-)
@iKnockturnal The technology has many more uses than as a treadmill. For example it can be enlarged and created into a virtual reality game where you actually run or walk on the spot to get around in the game.
so is there like whole rooms of this stuff so i can run and dive around in a games like ARMA 2? this + a motion tracking gun and some sort of track IR would definatly make my whole life I've actually thought to myself before wow it would be really cool if this is how video games were played in the future, well hopefully i wont be denied.
make sure you release a large 10ftx10ft sort of option on the final release, so people can leap around and roll around corners and stuff with out noticing the real world, you wanna make ur top end model so you couldnt get off the carpet with out powering it down first even if you tired. Im not sure how to prevent idiots from getting stuck and starving to death but im sure you could think of some sort of failsafe, something like 5 rhythmic claps for backup kill switch could do the trick
Yes, you're right, for this video we acellerated the platform manually, the walker had to adapt to the speed. We wanted to find out when it gets unstable: at 1.4m/s. Due to the size of this prototype it was not possible to control the platform by the feet but we used (very successfully) a small vehicle to simulated the downhscaled walking of a human.
Also , this thing looks as if the speed of its rotation is controlled in gear shifts , and by an external control. The feet do not control the speed and it only has what appears to be slow , med , and fast. Also looks like the speeds are being shifted by the guy behind the camera. Maybe they will prefect this model , because if the new elements are added , it will revolutionize the industry.
not omni directional. this is nice because it is compact and has an ability to be marketed to the public on a massive scale for use in the home. There are much more perfect machines for virtual reality use. The cyberspace omni-directional treadmill is the best concept for VR step simulation mechanics. there is a video here on youtube , just type it in.
Why not improve the much vaunted pedestrian-way technology that sci fi authors were always on about? High speed transit in place of rail / road lines. need to know more about the mechanism and if it can scale at all.
Basically therese are the first balls which jump out as described. Stability above certain velocities can obly be achieved in some design change of teh matrix. (I's have something in my mind but the project is finished)
A complete destruction of the mtrix as described by LSLencrypted will only occur if you don't propperly adjust the gap between matrix-carrier and belt - good look when seraching all the balls!
I think the Virtual Walk Game Controller that VirtualProductsLCC is trying to get on the market is a better idea. Feet are suppose to move, not the ground.
In the future, only the wealthy have the privilege of walking. In what has become a world of interconnected cubicles and pneumatic tubes, many humans have resorted to utilizing their now unneeded limbs for sustenance.
gotta love your dance moves

How do you plan to keep the tiny balls from falling/popping out?
12al34 2 years ago
At the moment gravity is enough (some more details within my publications) but I'd have some kind of special shape of the holes planned if necessary.

"Walking test up to 1,4m/s where balls start to flip out. A change in the matrix design or the shoe sole could prevent the balls from flipping out"
Probably this^ they flip out and the machine basically self destructs more or less.
