and btw i really love the blue bell ride. You can go crazy on it without being too much offensive but still it has this great bell which cuts trough. Call yourself lucky to own this baby :)
Amazing note perfect drumming my good man! Ive been a Peart fan since 1980 when I started playing myself. Im a huge fan of Ian Paice, John Bonham, Steve White et al but Neil Peart is truly The Professor! Well done again dude!!
I have heard a few Paiste Blue Bell Rides that just have to much sustain & ringing overtones .To the point where it was annoying, but you got a really great sounding one . Oh & Great cover ray !.
Absolutely brilliant cover. I have the Blue Bell myself and it is without a doubt the best sounding ride I have ever heard. Needless to say the rest of your kit (particularly the snare) is beautiful as well.
ok this is not a hate comment at all but I gotta put my 2 cents in.Your drumming is flawless and you are obviously a RUSH fan in fact call me jelous being a drummer myself but Ive seen so many drummers cover Neils stuff as if it was theirs and cover it perfectly, kinda makes him look bad in a way.Tribute or not that is his drum work he busted his balls on when most of you were learning to differentiate the snare, bass drum and Hi hat.Stop honing your skills on something already perfected.
Phew.. all that and only two full-stops. I play drums myself and have been fascinated with Neil Peart's work for donkeys years. Exceptional work like this allows people like me a greater understanding of his playing. Let's spread the love, eh.
I ve been trying to get this song down on the drums since .....1981. After watching you it is obvious to me that I'm trying way too hard.I need to make every stroke ( Note) count
Woohoo! Nice revamp! New kit looks and sounds sweet. Think you played it even tighter this time around.. Damn fun to watch you play from this perspective . Just saw Rush at Jones Beach (N.Y.) a week or so ago and it was fantastic . Maybe I'll set up the camera and play you a toon sometime ; ) Awesome....
awesome job. Side story. Saw Rush many years ago in LA. Had tix behind the stage about 25 feet from Neal Pert. It was something to behold. I know in the drummer world Neal gets his props, but elsewhere I don't think he does. He is a powerhouse drummer in one of the tightest bands I've ever seen live.
Hey, Rays.... big fan but you should look into getting some mic equipment for your kit. I love the sound of your drums but the camcorder doesnt do the snare enough justice. I dont much care for your snare sound which I thought was odd with it being a Neil Peart DW snare... But the camcorder mic would explain alot. Great cover BTW
Great Video!! Start to finish so well constructed and amazing prospective. As someone who has been a rush fan since my first concert in 1977 thru the years and around 20 shows later... Awesome Ray ! Thank you for sharing your talent. It's fun to watch the magic. Hang in there and keep moving forward. :-)
HI Ray , excellent job almost perfect.missing a light half lift hat slur at 5:30 and at double tom hit then snare then tom fill at 6:38 i think(you missed the quick first double tom) . otherwise i am very impressed.
this is a friendly replyffrom drummer to drummer of course not a criticism.
Ha hahaha sorry ray not to be complicated, neil just lifts the hats a bit and slurs them but they are light and very subtle. you really have to listen for it. he does that thru out the song .
great job again Ray! I think people like this song in particular b/c Peart does such a good job of changing from simple to complex beats in the song and it has some really great fills. I've always been a fan of his lyrics as well and as an engineer I can't help but love "Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, a pattern so grand and complex." btw, they did a great live version of this on the Snakes and Arrows DVD.
Ray, are you left handed? I am and when I "ride" my hi hat with both hands I have to come down on snare with my left hand like I see you doing here! It's an odd thing to notice, but after all I'm a drummer, okay, maybe not, but I do OWN a lot of drum stuff! LOL! Have a great day!
Hey Mike, no I'm right handed...that section your talking about is a triplet-based beat, so playing with the sticking RLRLRL the snare beat falls on the left hand...(plus I see Neil play it that way! lol)
How could I not rate this 5 stars. I really love it when one of your new videos pop up in my subscription box. Just wanted to say thank you for what you do.
Too bad they're yanking your videos.
