  • Too bad they're yanking your videos.

    Gotta' love greedy corporations.

  • Very, very well done!

  • You are AWSOME!!

  • Now, i know that Neil uses the same heads, but what heads are on your toms? Are they stock Dws?

  • 3:22!

  • and btw i really love the blue bell ride. You can go crazy on it without being too much offensive but still it has this great bell which cuts trough. Call yourself lucky to own this baby :)

  • amazing job!

  • Amazing note perfect drumming my good man! Ive been a Peart fan since 1980 when I started playing myself. Im a huge fan of Ian Paice, John Bonham, Steve White et al but Neil Peart is truly The Professor! Well done again dude!!

  • VC é TENSO JOVEM!!!!

  • Smoking drum sound...nice, dry and natural...great work

  • dang man thats weird i have the same kit and same heads!

  • I dig this one, but I liked the old one you did better mainly because of that splash you had above the ride. Either way, your playing is crazy good!

  • I loved this. But your neighbors must hate you. :-)

  • I have heard a few Paiste Blue Bell Rides that just have to much sustain & ringing overtones .To the point where it was annoying, but you got a really great sounding one . Oh & Great cover ray !.

  • Absolutely brilliant cover. I have the Blue Bell myself and it is without a doubt the best sounding ride I have ever heard. Needless to say the rest of your kit (particularly the snare) is beautiful as well.

  • Ray - I'm I lifelong rushfan and greatly appreciate your work here (at the drums and the quality video)!!! Just awesome. Keep up the great work!

  • ok this is not a hate comment at all but I gotta put my 2 cents in.Your drumming is flawless and you are obviously a RUSH fan in fact call me jelous being a drummer myself but Ive seen so many drummers cover Neils stuff as if it was theirs and cover it perfectly, kinda makes him look bad in a way.Tribute or not that is his drum work he busted his balls on when most of you were learning to differentiate the snare, bass drum and Hi hat.Stop honing your skills on something already perfected.

  • @RUSH731000

Phew.. all that and only two full-stops. I play drums myself and have been fascinated with Neil Peart's work for donkeys years. Exceptional work like this allows people like me a greater understanding of his playing. Let's spread the love, eh.

  • nice cover what the little zildjen cymbal to the left

  • 2 negative votes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!why????????

  • totally off-the-wall question here, but what font is "Drumkey Films" at the beginning of the video in?

GREAT drumming, your videos never fail to impress.

  • Muito bom !!!

    É um dos meus favoritos.

  • Are you getting the new Neil Peart signature cymbals?

  • Great Great Job Ray. I hope to do this one next, it's just so tiring!!! Amazing job though Ray. Your new cymbals sound wonderful.

  • Wow is that a blue bell? Those things are like $400 lol

  • 2:32 I've never heard a more perfect fill

  • Great job. I've always thought this was one of Neil's most technical songs and you nailed it. How long did it take?

  • COOL! Took me back to when I used to worship RUSH

  • Un...Freaking.... Believable. unreal dude. Amazing. And what Freako "disliked" this video?

  • That was awesome. My fave Rush song, and played perfectly onthe drums dude. Sweet.

  • That blue Paiste is one sexy-looking cymbal!

  • Spot on Ray. Best cover i've heard. Drums sound excellent.

  • you have a sick set up i think weve found a replacement for when God forbid peart dies nobody gets as close as you

  • nice job man!!!!!

  • @rays2112 either A: im up waaaay to early, or B: thats the tiniest splash i've ever seen next to your ride.

  • neil peart 2 right here! haha...what heads are those?

  • wat ride cymbal is tat ? would some please reply so i can find out tanx :p

  • I ve been trying to get this song down on the drums since .....1981. After watching you it is obvious to me that I'm trying way too hard.I need to make every stroke ( Note) count

  • Your on it man and your a great drummer, your snare sounds a little too tight, just saying, great drumming great drummer

  • those drums and cymbals sound awesome man, but the one i loved the most was that ride, do they sell the whole set of cymbals like that one?

  • great sound and cover!

  • how are you integrating the Audio and Video?

  • And out of curiosity is that the DW Signature 24K gold snare. It Kinda Looks Like it.

    Nich

  • Your Amazing Man Keep It Up I Love Your Videos again keep it up(:

    Nich

  • Woohoo! Nice revamp! New kit looks and sounds sweet. Think you played it even tighter this time around.. Damn fun to watch you play from this perspective . Just saw Rush at Jones Beach (N.Y.) a week or so ago and it was fantastic . Maybe I'll set up the camera and play you a toon sometime ; ) Awesome....

  • hmm I can't really tell that neil peart was ur ispiration for the kit

  • ew is that a z custom crash in the top left corner

  • how to you play a double bass and the hi hat at the same time??

  • WOW that is a massive bass drum how big is that beast BTW why is your mounted toms so far over left ? and what kind of kit/cymbals are you using

  • awesome job. Side story. Saw Rush many years ago in LA. Had tix behind the stage about 25 feet from Neal Pert. It was something to behold. I know in the drummer world Neal gets his props, but elsewhere I don't think he does. He is a powerhouse drummer in one of the tightest bands I've ever seen live.

  • 720p is gorgeous.. spectacular cover to my favorite song off of Permanent Waves:)

  • 1:00-1:30 sound really Dream Theater-Esque

  • Great cover man! The video and sound quality is awesome! That blue symbol is sick! I'm not a drummer so what kind of cymbol is that?

  • @Biglover29 Thanks! It's a Paiste Blue Bell Ride (the Stewart Copeland signature model)

  • @Biglover29 yeah that blue cymbal is awesome, never seen one like that before

  • WOW

  • That was just $##^$%&^%* awesome!!!!

  • i am a new drummer you are a good role model keep it up dude oh and an awesome drummer

  • NIce vid ! ! Dude... you're good ! !

  • Thanks!!

  • Hey man nice vids. How did you record the audio because I didn't see mics? Rush for life

  • Just the camcorder mic (believe it or not!) But I EQed the audio a bit in the editing software

  • Hey, Rays.... big fan but you should look into getting some mic equipment for your kit. I love the sound of your drums but the camcorder doesnt do the snare enough justice. I dont much care for your snare sound which I thought was odd with it being a Neil Peart DW snare... But the camcorder mic would explain alot. Great cover BTW

  • @rays2112 out of curiosity, what kind of camera are you using??

  • @sgtpepper1138 Canon Vixia HV30

  • Great Video!! Start to finish so well constructed and amazing prospective. As someone who has been a rush fan since my first concert in 1977 thru the years and around 20 shows later... Awesome Ray ! Thank you for sharing your talent. It's fun to watch the magic. Hang in there and keep moving forward. :-)

  • Thank you very much! I would have loved to see Rush in '77

  • excellent job Ray............. WOW

  • do you clean your cymbals alot cuz ther soo SHINY

  • I posted a video response. I hope that's ok and not too forward of me.

  • Outstanding job. Really enjoyed it.

  • What ride is that? It sounds a beast :] Vaiir nicely played indeed if i do say so and very nice drums :D

  • paiste blue bell ride 22 inch

  • Wonderful! Excelent! God bless you, Ray!

  • Thank you!

  • Wow Ray, just wow!

  • Ray, im 16 and I love RUSH and this song. I think you did an AMAZING job and, thanks to this video, I can now play this song. Thanks Ray.

    Vandy

  • Thank you, Vandy and I'm Glad I could help!

  • Outstanding cover Ray. Well done.

  • HI Ray , excellent job almost perfect.missing a light half lift hat slur at 5:30 and at double tom hit then snare then tom fill at 6:38 i think(you missed the quick first double tom) . otherwise i am very impressed.

this is a friendly replyffrom drummer to drummer of course not a criticism.

  • Oh yeah it's not perfect...there's a couple of other parts that are off as well...thanks for watching!

  • Question though...whats a "Light half lift hat slur" ?

    lol

  • Ha hahaha sorry ray not to be complicated, neil just lifts the hats a bit and slurs them but they are light and very subtle. you really have to listen for it. he does that thru out the song .

  • i like your ride...what is it?

  • paiste stewart copeland signature

  • Right On!

  • can anybody tell me what rush album this song is on?

  • Permanent Waves (1980)

  • ThANKS AWESOME JOB ON THE DRUMMING

  • Thank-you for coming back to this one. I love this song. I hope you had as much fun making it as I did watching it!

  • Your welcome! I did enjoy it...I always enjoy playing Rush!

  • great job again Ray! I think people like this song in particular b/c Peart does such a good job of changing from simple to complex beats in the song and it has some really great fills. I've always been a fan of his lyrics as well and as an engineer I can't help but love "Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, a pattern so grand and complex." btw, they did a great live version of this on the Snakes and Arrows DVD.

  • I have been waiting for this for the longest time now!

Great job on the cover as always!

  • Awesome. Sound seems very improved. Snare sounds great!

  • Amazing cover, and indeed, it was more enjoyable than your first attempt. I look forward to more covers. ^^

  • Brilliant, well done

  • Ray, are you left handed? I am and when I "ride" my hi hat with both hands I have to come down on snare with my left hand like I see you doing here! It's an odd thing to notice, but after all I'm a drummer, okay, maybe not, but I do OWN a lot of drum stuff! LOL! Have a great day!

  • Hey Mike, no I'm right handed...that section your talking about is a triplet-based beat, so playing with the sticking RLRLRL the snare beat falls on the left hand...(plus I see Neil play it that way! lol)

  • are those paiste hats or paragons?

  • @Drummerwithagroove Paragon 13"s I believe

  • paiste.

  • Paragons...this was recorded a few months ago.

  • your ride cymbal is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen/heard lol

  • you can thank stewart copeland for that.

  • ur like tyhe best ruch cover u amazing

  • @DjBrianProductions nice spelling

  • Ray, you are one of my favorite drummers on Youtube! Fantastic drum cover of an awesome song! 5*
