I agree with every single one of you. And, it's like a warm blanket just hearing this again. Safe and warm, surrounded by my family, usually in my pajamas and ready to enjoy whatever show or special that was about to start. Sighhhhh.... hey, we should all meet for a drink! Imagine the NBC Peacock actually bringing a bunch of strangers together! Why, this damn bird could even initiate World Peace, I tell ya!! (overkill?)
@CraigFoye80 Yeah, being 4 or 5 years old at the time, "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" on Monday nights is the show that I remember this peacock was on before it started. Whenever this peacock started at 8 pm EST (we were in the Tampa Bay area of Florida) on Monday nights I knew I'd be going to the party and visiting with the "sock-it-to-me" girl, Judy Carne.
This "Living Color" bumper, known as the "Laramie Peacock" (because it was initially used on "LARAMIE" in the fall of 1962), was regularly seen, before the start of virtually every NBC color program [includng "THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON"], until 1970 (a shortened version was used during the 1969-'70 season). Mel Brandt is the NBC staff announcer giving the disclaimer...
@neopia9 Totally. Like on New Years or Christmas Day. Have it start the same as this, but everything gets more colourful and higher in definition, with the peacock spreading a tail of several million shades with an announcer proclaiming "The following program is brought to you in living high definition colour, on NBC."
I remember reading somewhere that there was a disagreement over the the publishing of the background music for the Peacock. Bickering over a musical background that lasts mere SECONDS?
The best 11 seconds of my life.

Great call americangirl564! Of all the NBC programs of that era, you picked the one, I too, immediately imagined.
Hey anyone remember the Kraft specials? I think they were exclusively on NBC during this era.
They used to be variety shows and their commercials were Kraft recipe promos, I'd get hungry watching some of those.
Thanks for posting this... I miss this peacock and the flute.
