  • Amazingg :)

  • too bad our school isn't good at something besides cheerleading.

  • do you go to sun prairie?

  • yep

  • oh ha well being good at cheerleading is a good thing(:

  • It's funny and entertaining reading all of the experts' commentary. The fact that these kids are 14-18 years-old is amazing... enough to be awesome in my book.

  • thats a high school team!!?? theyre AMAZING!!

  • what the heck thats a high school team

    man they're amazing

  • haha. we have the same uniforms except oppisite.

    lke ours are mained black.

  • i heard sun prairie isnt coming back in 2009!

i heard it from a lot of people! thank god, theyre amazing! is it true?!??!

  • NO... They have like 11 guys and will be better than ever this year. I saw the team in person less than a month ago. They will definitely be back at UCA and obviously "a lot of people" were mistaken.

  • My question is will they actually use all of their guys? Doubt it. They'll give in to the typical UCA coed routine and just stunt and maybe tumble. (doubtful) Can somebody PLEASE take a stand and show that you can win with a pure cheer routine!

  • Right on Cheerguy! if you want to see some good incorperation of guys check out some of MD stuff

  • Why be haters? I'm a huge Mater Dei fan and love what they've brought to UCA. But it's not for me to decide what wins; that's up to the judges and, at least for now, they've decide that the more traditional approach is what they want. When that changes, we'll change. Until then, we'll just keep doing what we've been doing and trying our hardest to give our members a positive life experience, while being competitive. At the end of the day, the experience matters most.

  • Mark is right. We'll be back. Whether than we'll be better than ever is something for others to decide. We're just doing what we always do: working hard, making adjustments and having a good time. See you all in Orlando.

  • Hopefully they include the guys tumbling and doing some part of the dance

  • the new christian brothers

  • hey cheerguy7,sun prairie is fine, so stop trying to make us change stuff to how you want it, so well be worse. But i appreciate the input and love your responses, keep them coming

  • yesss ^^^^^

  • I would like to see a Large coed team at UCA that puts up 5 stunts during the advanced stunt sequence and have more than just the girls tumbling. I'm still waiting for a large coed high school team to blow me away, although this came MUCH closer to anything I have ever seen before. Every year this team has improved. And I do agree that Dunbar did not have much competition this year (at all). Except Folsom, but they need MUCH more standing tumbling to really be a threat. :) Just my opinion!

  • I was very happy when I saw SP win! Although I would like CBHS and Cordova to come back... I coach a coed high school cheerleading team and we might not have the talent to compete against teams like these but we work hard so that one day we can hopefully go to nationals and not be laughed at. I actually really liked this routine. Except for the old fashioned undertones of the girls dancing in the front, or tumbling while stunts are going on. Just my opinion, not bashing.

  • This was a good routine. Personaly i like the west coast style where they guys can dance and tumble. I would have liked to seen more of that in this routine but by far one of my favorites this year.

  • I totally agree with you MaterDeiMike! You guys were awesome this year and I hope you prove that having guys doing motions and tumbling can win at UCA!

  • yall did so good this yearr!

    i compete in small coed

    congrats it was amazing

  • wooo go sp(:!

im so excited for next year!

    bianca

  • First of all I don't deny that Sun Prairie are this year's champions. They deserved it. However, I want to make the point that CBHS is the standard for large coed. I have never coached a coed team, but it doesn't mean I don't know cheerleading. I've been in this game a long time. Besides, I look for a real challenge and it's called all-girl where there's 30+ teams at nationals with so much talent that 5-10 teams could win it any year. But I will say, good job SP. You are the national champs.

  • OK, KEEP DIGGING cheerguy7. At least you finally complimented SP after all of the insults. And what you say is NOT true about EVERY all girl division at UCA. LG Varsity was, uhm, ONE TEAM deep this year = Dunbar. No one even seroiusly posed them a threat. NOT 5-10 deep like you said. BTW, what ALL GIRL TEAM do you coach at UCA with your SUPREME UCA KNOWLEDGE to get your "real challenge."???

  • Great job! you all did amazing!

  • Congrats again SP! Awesome job!

  • ok... first of all i would like to know if you have ever worked with a HS large coed team... chances are you havent, it goes far beyond ANYTHING you are saying!!! I do agree CBHS is amazing, and Sun Prairie doesnt deny that, in fact we admire that squad and study them. I was on this squad, helped coached this squad, and choreographed parts of this routine, the fact that you dont have faith they wont be around is fine, but this program had been around for along time!

  • If you followd cheerleading at all you would know that this team has been building up to this for years, these kids have amazing heart and desereve everything they got this year!

sun prairie is the first HS coed squad at UCA to ever throw toss cuppies, CBHS has never done it. yes they are great, but SP deserves to be recognized as the 2008 UCA large coed national champions, if you cant APPRECIATE that, then you have no room to even care let alone speak on the subject of UCA large COED

  • BTW, Craigmont did toss, ball-up QP's in 2002. Not straight toss QP's like SP, but toss nevertheless. So, I would say that Craigmont did (a form of) toss QP's first. But, you are correct about CBHS. As far I know, they never did toss QP's. They didn't need to most years. CHS beat CBHS in '02 with ball-up QP's and toss stretches.

  • I'm sorry but there's so much more to a routine than stunting! I dont disagree that stunting at UCA is VERY important (the most important besides maybe the cheer) but great teams have the full package. I wish more people would appreciate the whole picture of a cheer routine and not just the "big things" like stunts and baskets. I agree with MaterDeiMike and I love the West coast style where there's team dancing, motions and tumbling, even in coed. Again, respecting all skills of cheerleading.

  • Man, cheerguy7, you just don't get it, & you obviously have not looked at a UCA score sheet recently. BTW, why do you keep posting on this video? No one watching this wants to hear about how you think SP doesn't have the "full package." My eyes show me that SP has great skills across the board. NOT JUST STUNTS (which were outstanding). We all "respect all skills in cheerleading", but according to UCA, stunts/baskets are almost 40% of the score. What aspect would you focus on in a UCA routine?

  • I think Cheerguy7 has a point the best cheerleaders can do everything which includes DANCEING AND TUMBLING AND MOTIONS. sorry cheercoachmark i think he has you on this one

  • Well, everyone is free to their own opinions MIKE. I don't have any problem with the West Coast Style or the more flashy style that is prevelant in all stars today. But the fact remains that dancing, motions, & jumps are not that important to the UCA score sheet. So just don't expect any teams that have guys DANCE to win UCA anytime soon. And the only reason that Mater Dei did better at UCA this year is b/c they have changed their style to better fit UCA.

  • fair.. but there are also competitions where you can be rewarded for those "other" aspects of cheerleading. UCA however prides itself on large coed teams haveing coed and stunts and the power underneith the stunts. Its simply catering to the score sheets and building your routine based off that. Go to NCA and get rewarded for awesome choerography motions and dance. Thats not how the score sheets at UCA work.

  • That's true Colin. I agree that Meter Dei's style would be more appreciated at NCA or USA (where, I believe, they have had success before). But why would Mater Dei want to go back to NCA and compete against 4-5 teams. UCA is FAR more competitive nowadays. And I think that is why they go to UCA. I respect that they stay true to themselves and their West-Coast style. They are a great team & are ceratinly fun to watch, but they set themselves at a disadvantage at UCA with their routine choices.

  • Man, you have a lot of nerve. Where's the video of your National Champion from UCA demonstarting your "superior" UCA knowledge?

  • I was of course talking to "cheerguy7". Come on, show us one of your videos dude.

  • dude i don't know who you are but u have no idea how much work it took to be national champions. I dare you to come to sun prairie wisconsin and tell any member of our team that we had a "decent routine". If you ever get around to coming up here i will give the address to our gym and you can come and demonstrate your "superior" knowledge. And as a sophmore on this team i GUARANTEE that you will be hearing from us for years to come!!!!

  • Sun prairie has been working for this title for years, and we didn't win because we had a "decent routine". If you have a large coed team that's better, i'm sure that everyone would love to see it. We're not going anywhere, so don't worry about us.

  • Ummm, excuse me????? Why r u insulting "Northern" teams. They rocked. Hello???? They got first. Gezz, u need help.

  • Sun Prairie has been a UCA Finalist since 2004. We've had a coed team every year since 1997. I was on the first team in 1988 and have been coaching since 1997. Trust me, we'll be around for as long as we can get guys.

This championship is something we've built toward for years. CBHS is the definitive large coed team and we respect them tremendously, even though they no longer compete. Chris Darby is the pinnacle coach in this division hands down.

Freezing (and working) our butts off.

  • NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

  • Thanks for uploading this!

My favorite part is from 2:02 onwards.
