Then the lender is thrown out of his house for not being able to repay. It made the news the other day that Zurich Bank had lent a shopkeeper, a man who had no building, construction or development experience, 32 million euros to build a shopping centre. It boggles my mind that banks thought this was sustainable.

Bailout? You mean high interest loan needed to pay the debts of private companies (the banks) because our government were so stupid (and corrupt) to make them ours. We are borrowing money from European banks, to give to our banks, who will pay back the same European banks that gave them the money in the first place to gamble. So they win TWICE. @donnyab I understand that, I meant that the majority of the blame lies with lenders who lent out exorbitant amounts of money without so much as a simple background check on the lender. Then the lender is thrown out of his house for not being able to repay. It made the news the other day that Zurich Bank had lent a shopkeeper, a man who had no building, construction or development experience, 32 million euros to build a shopping centre. It boggles my mind that banks thought this was sustainable.

JDoubleU that is correct, but they should do away with the term potato famine, It's misleading, because a large number of people, including Irish people, as sad as that is, believe that there was no food at all, and why that was the case! It's very sad really!

yes I totaly get the "bailout "at gunpoint, what's the alternative? bankcruptcy but at least we would be poor and free instead of poor and enslaved by the EU as more and more countries go the same way, a few people getting very powerful...do you trust them?

the 12.5% corporate tax doesn't really make sense. the bailout is for the greater good of eurozone so we were told. And at the same time for the sake of eu solidarity, we drew a redline to maintain an ultra-low tax rate? wonder how Lenny convinced himself. laughable!

Irish people bought the new cars, and took the holidays, and built the big house, and rolled the whole thing into 40 year mortgages on overpriced goods. Our government fucked everything with cronyism and corruption, and you blame the Jews. The Jews are not to blame, The Germans are not to blame, the English are not to blame. @RKODeano No. When this was all starting and Ireland was one of the last ones to accept the New EU tripe...I had great hope; much like I did when Iceland stood up. Basically, the two nations Ireland & Iceland need to continue to stand up & take over their nations, Unite & see what other countries might consider such bravery. Kick those Usury-vampires out.
