  • And dey are

  • when you say crazy tempo, what do you mean. like a really high tempo?

  • @pb0o6 I mean a constantly changing tempo with both very high and low tempos. It has little to do with the tempo of the song and everything to do with the distance between each beat.

  • Drew,

Thanks so much for the videos! This is the stuff that the manual does not make clear! One question: I cannot seem to find the "Beats from region" function ? How do you access that? I could not find it as a menu option or a key command. Thanks!

  • Hey Drew,

Great tutorial! I have one quick question I hope you'll be able to help me with.

When the tepmo is changes to the "crazy tempo", it changes it in between each bar as well, so each bar has it's own "crazy tempo".

When I cut the drum group, it cuts each bar to the length of the 1st bar as opposed to the length of each bar individually, making the cuts NOT on the transients where the midi notes are.

    Any suggestions?

  • shouldn't be different for each bar. what note are you quantizing to? 16th? if so don't cut on the first beat of the first bar, cut on the first 16th grid line of the first bar.

  • hey drew, im wondering how you use the scissor tool. it looks like your clicking on one of the tracks and bringing up a menu from which you select the tool. im having trouble finding that.

  • just hit esc in any window and it will pull up your list of tools.

  • Hey Drew,

I just wanted to say thankyou for your hard work in making these tutorials. It means a lot to people like me who go to "You Tube University". You have helped me soooo much, and I just wanted to say thank you, again. Keep on rockin!

  • question: how would one use an LFO in logic to trigger samples in Ultrabeat [for example]?

  • Hi TRaddcliff. I'm not sure I understand the question. you want a sample to play every time the LFO reaches its peak? Or you want to effect the sample being played back with an LFO.

  • want the sample to trigger, be played, when the lfo peaks.

  • Every time I do Audio to Score it doesn't stay on beat. I have tempo changes in the song that I'm working with... and I'm thinking that may have something to do with it..?

When I look at the midi region that was created after I've processed "audio to score" it will line up with the audio hits and then slowly get off time as the song plays on. It's very strange... any idea why?

thanks for the helpful videos! :)

  • Good question. You can strip silence the drums after you quantize them, but you have to merge the regions first. That said, personally I don't like to do this. The "live" sound of a drum kit has a lot to do with the drums interacting with each other. I would only use this technique in extreme situations.

Again if you are going to replace the sounds completely, why record a live drum kit in the first place? Try mixing in some ultrabeat sounds underneath a live kit.

    thanks

    drew

  • Thanks for these Drew, very helpful. Got two questions

    1. Option cut isn't actually cutting to each quarter note for me, is there a preference somewhere for this? It looks like it's cutting eight bars or something.

    2. With the marquee tool method, it's really slow to find transients and finds loads of them with all drums selected. Is there a way to just use say kik and snare to find the transients then cut all the tracks?

    thanks in advance man

  • 1. option cut looks at how long the region to the left of the cut is, and makes cuts at that length for the rest of the region. Make sure you cut at the top of bar 1 before you proceed.

    2. there was a work around for this, but it has since been "fixed" by apple in an update.

  • 2 questions:

after you have quantized your drums can you further clean things up by using strip silence to remove transients from the other mics or does all the work already done cause problems? Or is it a better option to use ultrabeat to replace the sounds?

  • Yep,

Spot on stuff with the previous effort as well. Discovered that I had to create a few key commands in order to get the job done so it's really getting me up and running. Excellent to see sflogicninja here as well.

  • Hey Drew, well done for creating these videos. When I came up with these techniques I really wanted to do it myself but I don't have the resources or the balls to record myself doing a voice over.

You've made them seem about as simple as they can do so that's great. Cheers!!!

  • David, I've had your lesson on the backburner for over a month. Does this video address everything ok? I thought it was a pretty brilliant video. 3 cheers for Drew!

  • Yeah I think Drew has it covered.

Although if you did want to do a video I'd have no trouble with that at all. I'd love to see your interpretation.

But thanks again to Drew for posting a great video.

  • Go ahead, sir!

    Bravo!!
