530 Pounds for cattle class flight Auckland to London return in 1953. Over two years after tax wages for a working stiff at the time - that could also get you a nice semi-detached house in the UK at that time. No wonder 25 quid for a 3rd class passenger ship was more popular.
All changed in early 1960's with the advent of budget charter airlines like Laker and DanAir.

@usmctate Deregulation. Then the drop in airfares. It used to be very expensive to fly. Now it's like taking a bus. Very Very sad! Those days are LONG gone!
"Airlines and aircraft manufacturers made videos like this one in order to improve transparency of aerospace operations, so that potential passengers would be more confident for a schedule arrival and safe flight. Therefore, more passengers would interest to take commercial flight for travel"
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative opinions and reflections!!! :)
Britannia G-ANBG was later re-registered G-APLL. Why? Because humorous pilots created a call-sign that was most unflattering: "Golf Alpha No Bloody Good" !
This is the first time Airline food made me hungry. Back then driving down the road was glamorous. Everything was looking to the "jet age" there was pride in everything. Now almost nothing has gotten better. only cheaper. Flying is way more sucky than it needs to be.
loved it ! I flew as flight attendant for Pan Am during 70s-80s,and it still had the feel of a grand airline. training mockups were a bit more modern but just as "funky" (bottle caps lol!) I was trained on French service, 6 courses for dinner in FC. The business has changed.
@patpongmichiko Isn't this great! Cabin Services Training is like 2 days out of the entire course these days, back then it was safety that took the back seat! The Comet kept blowing out of the sky but the service was top notch! They need to bring this back! And they need to bring back the uniform too! I havent ever seen stewards and stewardesses that look this pretty before! They should bring back BOAC! And Pan Am! I'll never forget Catch Me If You Can! :)
WOW! How times have changed! Overworked airline employees yell and prod the herd as it moves from A to B. Cramped conditions and no catering maximize profits. Should any one of the herd complain, they are denied boarding and labeled a terrorist.
Watching this, I don't get why everyone pines about "The Golden Age" of flying. It seems to me that if you can shell out $10,000... you can get service and accomodations light years ahead of what is shown in this film strip.

@usmctate HA HA, right? We decided that we would rather save $30.00 in exchange for a cramped, dirty, seat and a bag of pretzels.

Dear All,
What do you think about the following statement?
"Airlines and aircraft manufacturers made videos like this one in order to improve transparency of aerospace operations, so that potential passengers would be more confident for a schedule arrival and safe flight. Therefore, more passengers would interest to take commercial flight for travel"
