  • Maire Brennan has a beautiful voice and this is one of her best songs.

  • i never get tired of listening to this beautiful song, if i ever get married i'm dancing to this song first!

  • Jim you were the ONE.

  • Majestic..............

  • This song breaks my heart, I hear the beauty that Shane can bring into the world and it tears me up seeing him staggering like a fool onto stage and drinking himself to death.

  • when this movie with the theme song was first out I was sure that it was Joe Cocker singing the man's part of it!

  • Moya Brennan is a national treasure!

  • The concepts that Shane MacGowan and the men like him present are ideas embraced by many of us who have been broken down by the reality of our convictions. I am a soldier, my father was a soldier, his father was a soldier, we are Americans who came from Ireland. It was always taught around our house that the heart of a man should be steeled by whiskey and his mind sharpened by his convictions. Thats how Shane wrote his music. Listen to the words and you will see old Irish.

  • @Arelexian What a lovely way to express it!!! I'm an American of mostly Scottish descent with lesser amounts of Cornish, English & Welsh. Don't know much about them on my dad's side but know all my Scottish ancestors (my mom's people) going a long ways back. Of all the mutts in the melting pot, only my Scottish ancestors passed down the memories & culture & the love of the motherland. The Gaels have always fiercely & tenaciously clung to their Heritage & my life is the better for it!!!

  • Shane is a Poet! A truly remarkable poet. Anyne who says he isn't, then in McGowans immortal words, you can Fuck off!

  • Thanks for uploading this!

I didn't remember it from Circle of Friends - but fell in love with this song after hearing it (apparently again) at the end of the sleeper hit movie, "The Nephew." With Sinéad Cusack, Hill Harper, Pierce Brosnan (he was also one of the producers) & Donal McCann. I think it may have been his final movie?...anyway, a sweet little film, well worth a viewing.

  • This is still one of the most beautiful songs ever sung, by two all time greats. Wish people could get past the way Shane's teeth used to be. Don't look at him if it is upsetting...just listen to the music. Moya is beautiful beyond description...her voice like an angel...she and Shane are just the best together.

  • He´s one kind of typical irish - typical damned great. You can´t put him together with keating or williams - his rough voice and so his - sorry, my english is not so good - type is not comparably with any other type of singer in the world. Let him be drunked, but he showes more of all than any other singers can. I don´t like him - I love him...

  • He's an amazing singer but has lost a lot over the years. a real pity cos was unbelievable!

  • Shane McGowan shows more talent when he's drunk than the majority of the population do when they're sober

  • Love the song and movie, brilliant! I had the book too but left it on a train, so never managed to finish it. but beautiful song.

  • Du kennst es schon, Judie67...

Sorry, aber ich finde nichts besseres! :-(

    Vielleicht bei ABBA...?

  • @TheLordofthecakes

Das ist doch wirklich schon reichlich gut...

  • Hey Judie67!

You still got the chance to be the one!

    Forever...

  • @TheLordofthecakes

    Oh Gott....

  • This is still one of the most beautiful songs ever sung...Shane may not be 'beautiful' in looks, but he sings beautifully...and Moya...what can be said that hasn't already...she's a fantastic singer and lovely, as well. They're the greatest.

  • Shane yer a genius with words.

  • @peacefrog1916 he didn't write this one

  • @joliecide he co-wrote it with Michael Kamen.

  • Shane mc Gowan is a genius.many people drink.give him a break.he has written so amazing tunes that are obviously loved by millions.he is a legend.dont forget all you who critisise have you done what shane has done for music.

  • Well i like shane but he no genius. I went to Rose of tralee twelve years ago to see shane play on street. They wheeled him off back of a van he was rotten he sang on song half way through he soiled himself and had to be taken away to get cleaned up so that my shane story have seen him loads of times before and since

  • a bitter-sweet song...it reminds me for a great,but lost love of mine...

  • Very inspirational song.

  • Lovely Song!

  • this was played at my dads funeral - not a dry eye in the place

  • Maire you sing as well as ever. You might remember me from the past. We were in the Ursuline together and had the same music teacher. I have been teaching piano all my life and now I am composing music. My name was Mary Conlon!

  • Shane is da man! He's a legend who doesn't act too big for his britches, which is rare nowadays. Love this song!

  • Shane cant sing...can write, cant perform... can play the piano etc.. don't look good with pretty women but ...does sound, great with Marie Brennan and Sinead O conner.. has beautiful words in his head but doesn't have a pretty mouth to sing them or a nice voice...or in tune...or trained to sing in tune....or even sound like he is in tune ...but still manages to remain coherent.....fact....no 1 is perfect...not even artists & poets...a beautiful poet & a poetic vocalist aren't made in a factory

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. These two bring out the absolute best in each other....I get chlls every time I hear Shane say "You're the One"

    then 'The One". They're unbeatable.

  • @sarahroo1993 No one will ever sing this song with as much gut wrenching feeling as Shane...and Marie is simply on a pedestal by herself. It simply cannot be done any better...

  • love it!!

  • Shane. <3

  • Shane is better than Dylan.

  • so beautiful

  • yep!

  • where can i download this song?

  • Wish there were more beauty, less beast !!

  • my first love Tom this helps me remember him in my heart for life

  • this is my favorite song ever, i get shivers just listening to it, especially when shane starts singing, his voice is so unique so groovy grrr, its a beautiful love song, that plus i really connected with the film" circle of friends" i would love to sing this song to the person who captures my heart!

  • Beauty and the Beast! I love it! :) Màire has that easily identifiable "Clannad" voice and Shane...well...he has a magic all of his own. I really like Shane MacGowan - I think he is a most underrated genius!

    Ruiseart Alcorn.

  • I love this song.

  • My fiance and I are getting married in August and he sings this song to me a lot...

  • rambling, dont make me kick ya`r ass Mentioning a CLOWN like Blobbie Williams in a Shane/ Maire Song. This is like incredible genuis stuff, totally original, not X factor crap

  • @woodyfurball Really good first time I have heard this. Briliant.

  • love this one. stuck in my head since the movie a few years ago. perfect wedding video song.

  • love this one. stuck in my head since the movie a few years ago. perfect wedding video song.

  • shanes voice only MAKES this songh, you tits

  • Fuck the coonts who talk about teeth, they probably got piles and maybe anal warts they try to distract there illness to Shane, go watch Eastenders ya Engerlanders, if ya Dont wanna watch / listen to Brill tunes,. go watch Simon Cowells utter pish or shitty eastenders, gawd bless Shane / Sinaed, Imagine if you these 2 class singers were from USA, they woulda made some much money, but Thank gawd there Irish, see there is a god.

  • Shane is like the phantom of the opera, A tortured beautiful soul. The world looks at him and see's hidious teeth or drunken behaviour but the simple beauty of his soul is so charismatic. The price of genius is mental anguish. Lonely solitude and not being understood. The reason that he can write such truthful heartfelt lirics is because he feels and see's what most people miss. God Bless you Shane. You are one of irelands greatest men.

  • If Shane is such a fucking genius why can't he figure out how to get to a dentist

  • @taterchimp If you're so fucking clever you should have known that he has got a new pair of teeth, instead of slagging him off in comemnts on youtube.

  • always thought sinead o connor sang this! they sound so similar! in love with this song! absolutaly lovely....

  • Oh Shane!.... .:-D unbelievable!

  • @rambling

    it´s useless to explain

    shane is the best.

no fucking matter what others say

    it´s just boring

  • I love you Emma baby xxxx

  • This song is like a trip down memory lane. Kinda miss Minnie Driver and Chris O'Donnell. The movie is a lot different from the book but nice job!

  • moya brennan, i`m owner of some cd`s but the best of the song is the voice of shane.

i know. my english is very bad....

    but shane is good

  • Brings a tear to your eye doesn't it?

  • shane tops them all!

  • Moya is the sweetest and more talented person i have ever known

    Simply ADORE her

  • awesome, awesome, awesome. There will never be a more beautiful song, sung by anyone, anywhere. These two giants just nail the words, the emotions, and are in perfect sync. Heartbreakingly lovely.

  • 2.55 är bäst!! älskar den här låten

<3 tänker på en viss person när jag hör den...

  • Me on drums :-)

  • SHAAAAAAANE!

  • this was the song we chose for our first dance @ our wedding...love it. we watched this video and laughed b/c the primary footage of shane was sitting on a chair...too inebriated to stand up?? lol!

  • this was the first song i met my bloke to, 3 years later we got wed .....2007

  • no wonder that Moire insisted thet they be apart. A classic. Is Shane still alive ? He should be. Forever...even if his breathe does stink.

  • I love this song & the movie!!! Definitivamente, mis favoritas!!! ;)

  • me and you will dance to this some day little marie!

    love you

    XxXxXx

  • Shane McGowan is a living Legend, thanks for Art Shane, you are one of the greatest artists

  • Moya is also a living legend, would'nt you agree?

  • @Sportymike for sure my friend, she is also a living Legend, both together are really touching my heart, brillant.

  • Yes I Agree, She has the Most "I Wanna move back to Ireland Voice" Beautiful.

  • Amazing:)

  • Beautiful and great song. Emphasising the importance of one's soulmate. I first heard it as the credits for the Nephew rolled. Never forgot it.

  • Comment removed

  • Of all the songs I have heard each sing separately, nothing compares to this pairing of two magnificient singers. Moya's voice defies description...and Shane's is unparalled, thru the ages.

Simply heartbreaking in it's beauty..together they are truly 'The One!'

  • @helen

    bleeding nice description!

shane though has the match ball;)

his voice is unknown and therefoe unbeatable.

  • Thanks ...glad you agree. Shane seems only to get better and better, if possible.

Different, somehow, truly unique and still in a league of his own...as always.

  • I love this song. Some aspects of Shanes life seem so sad...but he has one of the most memorable voices ever, no matter what he sings. This is a perfect pairing with Maire Brennan! Could listen to it every day. Still, it makes me feel sad for Shane. I hope he's doing well. Circle of Friends was good movie also, with Minnie Driver.

  • Love it.........so irish

  • Nothing wrong with this song.and Maire sings good as well...

  • Well I'm sorry but everybody who says that MacGowan can't sing or is an idiot clearly doesn't know anything. At first the man wrote this song together with Michael Karmen. At second, I find his voice unique and perfect together with Brennans soft vocals. If somebody like Ronan Keating or Robbie Williams would sing this one instead of Shane, it would be completely fucked and horrible. MacGowan is and will always be a genius, both as singer as well as a songwriter.

  • @ramblingbloke

    fucking right you are

anyone belittling shanes abilities is a bleeding git.

    thanks for your comment.

them comments make me laugh all the time.

  • @ramblingbloke

    well said,

this song is fuck all without shanes singing

  • @ramblingbloke

anyone saying shane cannot sing is a sorry git

    end of transmission.

  • @ramblingbloke

thanks for putting a few things clear for some idiots rounds here.

  • @ramblingbloke

    shane is the best,

    his voice is goosie!!

anyone saying anything else is either deaf or a fucking prick.

  • @ramblingbloke well said...Shane M is quite simply...the best ever. Get past his look folks...listen for his sound...it will carry you away in it's simplicity and beauty.

  • @ramblingbloke yes. That's all. YES!

  • @ramblingbloke

Vulgarity has no place in this world, ESPECIALLY the "F" word since sex was and is a gift of God for within marriage. Using the "F" word does nothing to make your point stronger, in fact it is demeaning, loathsome and offensive to those who know and love Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. What's worse is that you have left this post like this for a year. God/The Lord Jesus is SO good.

  • @ColonialPetersen Vulgarity is part of the God given human fom. Without we'd not have art. Even within marriage love making is a vulgar act, but necessary. Now Fuck off you sanctamonious prick. if you don't want bad language, don't come to a Shane McGowan video.

  • @ColonialPetersen Yeah, whatever. You go ahead and look down on those of us that live life to the full, and use words as and when we want. If I wanted to live my life according to a load of fairy tales, I'd pick the ones that say King Arthur will rise again some day - a lot more convincing than believing in 'Virgin Birth' and angels. Religion has caused more suffering than all the swear words ever uttered put together.

  • @ramblingbloke Poetry, passion and pure magic

  • beautiful song.....

  • @marienphil Shane and Moyascombined voices make this a beautiful love song. Shane is awsome.

  • @marienphil l Shane and Moya's combined voices make this a beautiful love song. Shane is awesome.

  • oops, "Circle of Friends"

  • I've never seen "Circle of One", but I first heard this song in the movie "The Nephew" and fell in love with it. It's a great duet.

  • the movie is...SHANE´S voice is the story

    outsings ANYBODY.

  • I'm in love with this song and Circle of One...

  • Shane writes all these songs that he duets with great artist., Moira Brennan, Sinead O Connor the late Kirsty MacColl and the rest. His voice compliments all the others.. its the rough with the soft vocals.. The man is a legend and brillant on stage . I just love Shane

  • Its just shane that makes this song good.. wouldnt be good if somebody sang instead of shane in this.

  • !!! OMG.

  • this was my first dance at my wedding 8 years ago

  • shane rocks!!!!

  • @world

    ;)

  • @world

    he has a drunk voice,exactly!

    LOVE IT!

  • shane makes this song less....schmaltzy;)

  • @world

    you don´t drink enough,mate;)

  • @world

you need to see a doctor as well,an optician would be first choice.LOL

  • @world

  • Blessed with the looks and the voice of an angel.

    Just heavenly....glad I stopped by!

  • I love Shane McGowan. Didn't even bother to get up from his chair in the retirement home for the video! That's rock and roll!

  • @Giggles

    yap,his voice is magic!

  • i fell in love with this song when i heard as credits rolled for circle of friends and it endear the movie even more ...his voice is unique and the marriage of their voice is beautiful..i get tears in my eyes everytime, and if i ever get married that's my opening song or maybe i would sing it myself to my true love!!!

  • You, sir, are an idiot.

  • brilliant

  • by the way,thanks to the "master"moya

    great sound!

  • The Fame academy duo are rubbish and souless singing this song..Shane and Marie are tailor made for it,..

  • i've got malachi cush's album and he sings it with sinead quinn (both from fame academy) and it's 100 times better than this

  • The Fame academy duo are rubbish and souless singing this song..Shane and Marie are tailor made for it,..

  • @dexy

    uhm,WHAT?

    link,please,so everybody can check.

  • No matter how many times I hear this, it is so hard to wrap my head around the fact that THAT man wrote THAT song. Just a beautiful song, and amazing more people dont use it for weddings

  • I heard this song during the closing credits of "Circle of Friends." I have now discovered Shane. This song is so beautiful, I play it all the time.

  • shane outsings her,it´s fucking great.long live shane and whatever he´s up to.i love shane!

  • only shane can do it right! this is so great! cant explain...:D

  • best songf ever written, but only because shane wrote it and sag it!never forget that, you pricks;)

  • I absolutely LOVE this song....it is incredibly BEAUTIFUL...the music...the words...and although she has a beautiful voice, HIS voice is PERFECT for 'this' song!!

  • @patty

    hmmm;)

  • To: PROLO67...I see you are a big fan of Shane's as well...so am I...

  • @patty

i am THE FANatic about shane,my dear!;)

  • I can see why..he's great!

  • I just love his voice at 3:16...it makes me have goosebumps all over. He's such an amazing musician and his voice is just...fantastic! So raw, rough, earthy and growling, and matches so well with Moya's beautiful crystal clear voice!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!! Brilliant!!! Would be good to hear Moya sing this sort of stuff again :) I think it'd be brilliant :)

  • I am a McGowan & Shane is a relative of mine...How beautiful is this....? Someone of your own flesh and blood can make your soul feel as close to God as this...?

    Much Love,

    Niq & Lil'J

  • I LOVE this song and his voice is just perfect for it....I recently saw a documentary on him...he seems like a very very nice man..this is ONE of my favorite songs..just beautiful...brings 'tears' to me no matter how many times I hear it!

  • @patty

i´v been sitting in front of my...i know it sounds lonesome..well i am not,it´s just,i am loneLY sometimes;)

this song belongs to my lifetime favourites;)

anyway,i wish you a very nice christmas!have all the fun you can squeeze out of life,no matter, who tries to spoil it!All the best,soul-mate(she mate?);)

  • Hey, this song has very 'special' meaning for me as well...it 'gets' to me no matter how many times I hear it..Shane is great..Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours as well! BTW, just wondering...do you live in Ireland??:-)

  • @patty

no,i just like the irish.have more connections to britain,as i had an english girl for 8 years.oh yeah, happy new year as well to you!

  • Shane once again shows he much more than a bar room singer. He sings is brilliantly raspy voice. The musical timing in this song is genius. Shane is a great all around musician. Come back to the States!

  • shane is ...what a voice....and it´s HIS song!!

  • A commendation to piss artists everywhere. Thank you Shane

  • Shane is a genius.

  • Definitely.

  • love how shane begins.its so good

  • The fact it's NOT a perfect match is the only thing that saves this song. Artists that don't blend usually make the best duets. It's extreme contrast, makes the music world so much less boring. Nothing in music should ever be perfect, perfect has no heart.

  • Agreed 100%

  • I really think that Shane's voice doesn't blend well with Maire's. Not exactly a perfect match

  • However, notice how you don't see Maire and Shane in the same shot? I wonder if they even recorded the track in the same studio? Perhaps she preferred not to be in the same room as old snagglepuss? Note too, that he has to stay seated and is wearing dark glasses.

Ah well, you have to take people as they are...

  • One for the Ages. Ireland's two finest together at last. That's how I've always seen it.

Also the movie, for depicting an era when Eire was still a charming, picturesque, albeit impoverished, superstitious rural backwater from which the young and ambitious had to flee. I'll always be grateful to it for giving it's star, Minnie Driver, her big break in Hollywood, which otherwise would never have given an unconventional beauty like her the time of day.

  • beautiful-

  • This is such a lovely duet. Moya & Shane do a fabulous job.

  • I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.

  • Fuck off!!!

  • What was that remark for?
