It also takes more time and more of a thought process, as well as more skill to produce original sounds to get original music. I.e. make your own shit
@jaydoesfridge though true, a lot of modern "musicians" they just blatanly jack different shit from different classics and call it their own... I'm looking at you kanye west...
David Axelrod was hip-hop before hip-hop was hip-hop. His mastery at taking traditional compositions that go back in time and modernizing them with jazz, funk and rock is ... beyond genius. Ahead of his time.
@drabh1 They definitely have an ear for quality.. I don't doubt that. They also have the knack for altering the original music to suit hip-hop audiences. What I'm saying is that it takes real, true talent to create music like that from scratch. All it takes to sample it well is, like you said, an ear for quality - there isn't much actual skill required.
@rahooligan Sampling and blending sounds is an artform in itselt, Many could probably sample this and get a semi-good result, but to actually come out with something that is well balanced, well constructed and catches a certain feeling is probably harder than you think.. That being said I most definitely agree that to compose this type of music from scratch would demand genius. But to beatmake gems also demands genius!
Godfather don used this record for seeds of hate....so many hiphop producers used this record. i could think of so many songs that have used this record. There are so many parts of this that can be used!! Take em too war by g rap. 2:08 is Brainstorm by lord finesse , o.c and krs one....i could keep on going. Despite the sampling, this is just an erie outrageous record.!!
Ed Rush samples this track on an early No U Turn records release, can't remember the name of the track, but yes it has been "remixed" with Jungle already
Don't get it twisted. I listen to every kind of music out there. And I was introduced to David Axelrod thru hip hop. Axelrod is a genius. But If it wasn't for hip hop, this song probably wouldn't get as much feedback. So fuck off Mr. English major!
things ain't ever gonna change... FUCK EM'!!!!!

David Axelrod is a true musical genius. And the sample has been used no end and can you blame them??? It's perfect for a dark hip hop track.

Thousands of rappers/hip-hop artists have used dozens of Axelrod's works. Not one of them is half as talented as Axelrod himself

@rahooligan so why would they sample his stuff then if for one they don't appreciate it or have an ear for quality

"Cruelty has a human heart,
And jealousy a human face;
Terror the human form divine,
And secrecy the human dress.
The human dress is forged iron,
The human form a fiery forge,
The human face a furnace seal'd,
The human heart its hungry gorge."

"Cruauté porte un coeur humain,
Et jalousie un visage humain,
Terreur a la divine forme humaine,
Hypocrisie le vetement humain.
Le vetement humain est de fer forgé;
La forme humaine une forge de feu,
Le visage humain une fournaise close,
Le coeur humain est sa gorge affamée."
