this is one of the few movies I can watch over and over again. I remember after seeing it in theaters it couldnt escape my head. Great music, respectable acting. I didnt like everyone's performance (Johana's for example) but Judge Turpin did an amazing job and sadly that was over looked in this film. I agree this isnt a film for everyone, I was a 15 year goth kid with a mohawk when this film came out, so of course I liked the dark directing of Burton. So for me it's:
@BlackbirdMatt im just saying there to much sining theress nothing wrong with singing but about 3/4 into the movie when there was a son g i was just bored and was waiting for it to be over
I loved this movie but...then again I can't find any Tim Burton movie I don't like I just love Tim's style! :D is there anyone who doesn't much care for Tim Burton but still loves this movie?
when I first heard about this movie I thought this is too stupid to be true I mean think about it! its a musical about a serial killer barber that makes his victims into cracker jack meat pies! you just can't make that into a musical! but after I saw it I really loved it Tim Burton is a very creative yet creepy movie genius and Johnny is as weird as ever! Full price for me
Best thing about this movie was the final furnace scene. That's bout it. -shrug- Tim Burton should just have sex with Depp already if he loves him so damn much.
@ZeeJules67 ah, but johnny depp did a very fine job in this film! i can't think of an actor I would have liked better in this part. and why not use and re-use an actor he's comfortable with and understands his vision? indie directors do it all the time; woody allen did it for at least 10 years w/ Mia Farrow. at least johnny depp and tim burton aren't sleeping together. presumably.
i am still not sure wether I really hated this movie or really loved it... I AM SO CONFUSED my favorite scene was when Toby was singing to mrs lovett not while I'm around and I hated when toby was in the basement and he found a finger in his meat pie and I HATED HATED HATED the end when toby killed Sweeny Todd my favorite character was Toby.. until he killed Sweeny Todd...
Funny piece of info that some people might not know: the musical, the original Broadway musical, is based off of the story of a real mass murderer in 19th century London
I'm not a big fan of musicals, even though there are plenty I do like. I loved this movie, it was right up my alley. Tim Burton is a weird, but cool filmmaker.
I love you guys! I laugh so hard at evey review you guys do and agree with mostly all of them. Because I love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton so much I really liked this film. I didn't care for the music part I wanted them to just talk and that maybe because I am not a big musical fan but I did love the film and it was a matinee for me.
im suprrised that thay did not tolk about helelna bonham carter's boobs in almost every part in the movie I love that movie but come on tim burton we get it your wife has big boobs
'emo'? god I hate that word, it means absolutely nothing. it certainly is not the same as goth. totally fake genre label. no band calls themselves emo, no one calls themselves an emo. can we just drop that from the vernacular already?
I love when Tim Burton and Johny Depp work together because when they do, they make some awesome movies! I loved this, It put together dark 18th century Britain, musicals, and Johny Depp some of my favorite things! :D
@Keitafox Well it apparently got great reviews and his fans seemed to love it, it's one of my favorite movies ever. His head has always been in the game
@AngelDust155 That's because a good portion of Burton's fans are mindless drones that think everything he creates is an instant Oscar winner. Burton hasn't made an original film since the 90's, that's sad. And all of his remakes end up being plastic and hollow. The last great film he worked on was Big Fish, and that was because he left his pasty white comfort zone and didn't use Depp. He's not a film god.
@Keitafox Right, so EVERYONE that loves his films (which are a LOT of people) are stupid, and people like you are smart and know everything? Ya, right. And also, he made Corpse Bride a few years ago that was also a hit.
It's rather sad how you have to put those down that really enjoy his work, if you don't like his work then don't watch it and don't bother messing with it.
@AngelDust155 Did I say EVERYONE that liked his films were mindless drones? No, no I didn't. You need to stop jumping to conclusions or else you'll make yourself look more like a moron then you already are. Also, Corpse Bride was hit with mixed reviews because everyone was comparing it to NBC with the majority hating it. I don't hate Burton, I just think he's lost his touch. Also, if you're allowed to praise him then I have every right to slander him if I want to. Freedom of Speech FTW.
@Keitafox Mixed but mostly positive, read more reviews.
So, what's wrong with spreading love? This worlds already full of useless hate, we don't need anymore. I really don't care if you dislike it, but don't diss Tim Burton on a place like youtube and not expect people to stand up for him.
@AngelDust155 I don't know about you, but the majority said that it was bland. Also, Burton's starting to lose his love because his movies are getting more and more terrible, especially since that god-awful Alice film, this "hate" is coming from the fact that he can't tell a decent story to save his life anymore. I don't care that it's youtube, I'm allowed to say what I want regardless of whether or not it's in favor of Burton. He is now the gothic Michael Bay, no story, all flash.
@Keitafox Well IDK where you're reading it. Rotton Tomatoe gave it a 83%.
Well ya know what, fine, you don't have to like it, but don't say Burton's lost his touch since millions would disagree with you, in YOUR opinion, he has, but not everyone. And yes you can say whatever you want, but that doesn't really give it a good reason, know who else had opinions? Hitler, the KKK
@AngelDust155 So... You're going to compare what a LOT of critics are saying, Burton losing his touch, to Hitler and the KKK? Wow, how immature are you? Is Burton really that much of a film GOD that saying he sucks is enough to get you crucified? I'm a film student, so I take movies seriously. I'm alright with movies being a fun ride, but Sweeny and Alice weren't even that. They were bland pieces of crap that depended too heavily on the celebrity roles. Grow the fuck up, watch Up instead.
I'm sorry, bad review. Corey has the only good taste in this one. The movie was brilliant.
And HELLO! It;s a GOTHIC musical! Not emo.
And it's Tim Burton so the dark characters he created are going to have similarities to his version of Sweeney Todd. How could you NOT like Tim Burton? He's a GENIUS!!!

i actually dint like this movie, I thought this was a scary movie or an action movie and i got a fucking musical. I'm not saying this movie is stupid or bad but is totally not for me. And the songs were too long. I was going insane of boredom
The musical score wasn't so bad - but the musical score was really the only thing that kept me watching it, apart from the beginning of the story concept. I mean, wouldn't anyone notice besides Sweeney's old psycho wife that NO ONE was coming out of his shop alive? Come on! And the ending, for me, sucked. It was like, "Wtf? That's it?" I thought it was sad that Sweeney met his daughter but didn't know it was her and that he killed his wife. Its a matinee, almost a rental.
I think the film would have been better if, rather than actually having Helena Bonham Carter sing, they replaced her vocals with Angela Lansbury, who was the original Mrs. Lovett. She had the look, but the performance suffered from her singing.
i think there a different between the emo/goth subculture fads and the art style gothic. gothic is a dark and elegant form of art that Tim Burton captures in his movies, its not emo. emo/goth is a fad that pussy little teenagers conform to.
i don't like tim burton for the same reason i don't like marilyn manson, those 2 are the poster child of the gothic subculture to hollywood. but i liked this, what i didn't like was the song cutting. perfect casting, i wanna see the cast do the broadway version
I love Tim Burton films. I find his ability to create dark Gothic atmospheres second to none. His movies generally all appeal to me since they are generally dark, beautiful and fantasy like.

I do, however, like this film and some other good works that now seem to be scarce within him.
I want him to stop fucking using Depp though.
He can make better movies without using Depp.
Also, I think burton should stop doing remakes :I.
He can be original, but status has crawled up his ass along with the whole Teen-like angst in his films.

i don't like tim burton for the same reason i don't like marilyn manson, those 2 are the poster child of the gothic subculture to hollywood. but i liked this, what i didn't like was the song cutting. perfect casting, i wanna see the cast do the broadway version

Better than sex for me.
Johnny Depp is an AMAZING actor and you can just give him any character, and he'll make it his own and even better than you ever could've imagined.

Tim B is one of my favorite directors so i dug the hell out of this movie. Full Price
Altough a few of the musical numbers were a bit long for me (i've never been muc of a musical fan) but i have a hard time finding fault with the film.

I love Tim Burton films. I find his ability to create dark Gothic atmospheres second to none. His movies generally all appeal to me since they are generally dark, beautiful and fantasy like.
