@MrTdorsey15 (moving on the 8th note) D/F# - Em/G - D/A - G/B - A/C# - G/B - D/A - Em/G - D/F# - Em/G - D/F# (sustained), then at 0:51 it's a moving Bm7 resolving into D/F# - Em/G - D/F#. Periodically he drones the open low E string underneath, so I'd say he's hearing all of those other chords as polytonal movement over an underlying sustained Em7.

@Ilikevids84 The first lick is just a stock Am scale with a couple of chromatic passing tones thrown in (i.e. e-f-F#-g, d-D#-e). He's avoiding playing B, so it has a bit of pentatonic flavor. At 0:08 he plays a ii-V7-I progression in F (Gm-C7-Fmaj7). At 0:11 he starts an extended ii-V7-I in Eb (Fm-Bb7-Ebmaj7). 0:19 shifts to Ebm, then in the lick starting at 0:24 he transitions into what I would interpret as D Phrygian with added chromaticism (sort of a Pat Martino thing).

theres not a secret to playing like that....no matter what approach you take its gonna take time practice and work to get on that level....you can learn to play by ear or learn theory....theory however is gonna educate you on being a musician....you dont to be able to play fantastic complex things and not tell your bass player or piano player what chords your using...the secret is practice
