If I'm correct in thinking this is Fatal Frame 3, Rei (the protagonist) really doesn't have a choice in the matter. She's been cursed by the ghost Reika, so that every time she falls asleep, her dreams take her to this manor. The only way she can break the curse and end the dreams is to find and face Reika. If you look at other footage of FF3 gameply, you'll see that the ghosts in her dreams also start to invade her apartment, so that even when she's awake, she isn't safe.
