  • I had my first one two weeks ago. (I am 17) Found out that I have Crohns disease. The worst part is the prep by far, all you remember is a little bit before you go to sleep and then you wake up.

  • The prep. is far worse than the procedure itself, but don't put it off. I had a polyps the size of a golf ball snipped. Yeah it can be a bit uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as something developing into cancer ;) If you need one - just do it!

  • and by the way, my doctor told me it can be done without sedative. but i'm so stressed right now how it would feel without getting one... and i worry a lot about getting sedated about memory loss or not being able to wake up anymore. =(

  • does this procedure hurt or feel uncomfortable in any way?? i might undergo sigmoidoscopy in a couple of days, but hopefully not. i have blood in my feces and having a hard time defecating. i underwent a rectal exam yesterday, there was a part that hurt but the doctor but found no blood. he said it will depend on my CBC and Fecalysis results if we're pushing through sigmoidoscopy.

i just feel nervous about this procedure. ='(

  • I have just been for this procedure and the worst thing about it was drinking the mixture the night before and the morning after i would have prefferred the enema was just a bit uncomfortable like wind pains deep breaths through the pains and its gone but other than that nothing to be afraid of honestly if you do take the drink be careful you might still have the runs for a day or two better the test than the other option

  • I had this procedure many yrs ago...my "specialist" was a quack. I recieved NO sedation or pain relief...i had no idea. this was at the henderson hospital in hamilton ontario. I wish i could remember the drs name b/c i am now scarred for life. I will NEVER have this done again.

  • That's weird that most of you are saying they didn't put you out for this -- and that some of you didn't even use a sedative at all! I was worried going in today to get an endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy because of some of the comments on this page, however, they kept telling me not to worry that they're giving me "the good stuff" and it'll put me out. They ended up giving me propofol, the doctor told me to take a few deep breaths, and by the 3rd breath I was completely out.

  • @htownallday281 The doctor probably slipped in a rufie in that medicine XD

  • I was past the age where I was supposed to start getting colonoscopies even though I'm high risk for colon cancer. The reason: I think that the sedation is dangerous and may cause permanant memory loss, especially if you get midazolam (Versed); google "versed horror stories" and read the thousands of awful experiences. The GI doc who did mine agreed that Versed was a bad drug and that she would not use it. She offered propofol or painkiller only (fentanyl). It was easy without drugs.

  • i had mine done 5th November last year.I had midazolam which made me pretty relaxed and a bit forgetful but i watched part of my procedure and did feel some pretty bad pain at times,it helps to breathe through it.the worst bit is the bowel prep cos when it kicks in,it really does!my diagnosis was what i guessed, ibs.

this procedure wasn't as bad as i imagined, and 20 mins examination could be a life saver.if i can survive colonoscopy anyone can!

  • Is this an electronic voice reading a document?

  • A very educational video which remind us of prevention is better than cure

  • Just got my first sigmoidoscopy today as part of a routine screening. The preparation went well, and no anesthetics or sedatives were administered. Unfortunately, I had some pretty bad cramping during the insertion! Ouch! Luckily my doctor was done in less than five minutes, and I was mostly fine after a few minutes rest. Just a bit sore.

Result: "squeaky clean." (his words) :)

If he had actually found something inside, this procedure could have saved my life. Next one is in two years.

  • @JubalCalif Ha ha, nice one.

  • @DCHurlford1

Thanks! You're very kind! I hope you & your loved ones are having your HAPPIEST holiday season ever. And may ALL your wishes & dreams come true in the New Year! CHEERS! :-)

  • @JubalCalif And all the same to you as well.

  • @DCHurlford1

Awww....that's very nice of you to say! Meeting friendly folk like you always makes my day! THANKS so much!!!

  • Having said that the soreness did kick in for a few hours after i got back home.

  • @krazybob123 I didn't even bother with sedation. I was going to cause i thought it might be a bit painful but it felt ok (in a wierd kinda way it has to be said)...............Cue Flatulence.

  • I had one of these done recently at my local Hospital.....NICE!!!! Seriously though (for a second) i had been passing blood when doing a No.2 for sometime and was getting a tad paranoid thinking it was something sinister like the dreaded Cancer (even though that doesn't run in our family). Anyway eventually told my GP and turns out it's just a couple of Hemmaroids. The consultant put in a couple of bands which have now left the building. Just thought i'd let you know, ha ha.

  • fuckin painfull had it today

  • you get Versed and demerol...IF you're lucky and have a compassionate doctor

  • You're lucky! Here we just get slight sedation and the last time I had it done, the nurse was "having a bad day". Well, she missed the vein completely and so I had NO sedation....felt every twist and turn....horrible. Tried to have another last week and just couldn't finish, so they sent me to the CT Dept and I had a Virtual Colonoscopy...what a difference. If you have to have one, that's the way to go. And it only took me about 6 colonoscopies to find out the virtual ones were available!

  • i just did my colonoscopy test today, i didn't feel anything after they give me anestesia. when i woke up i was in another room. i am really pissed because they didn't explain anything about the procedure, they didn't even tell me that anestesia will unconsious me right away. now i am looking in these videos to see what they did. Did this happen to everyone?

  • i have to have one done,im getting sedated bt i have been informed by my consultant i Will be aware of what is happening.I've had a few GA but never sedation

  • Good video. Thank you.

  • OMGGGGGGGGGGG drinking the stuff beforehand was worse than the procedure. Salty as all getout. I went night night and was out till they were wheeling me out of the room. And OMG the amount of gas being passed after! ridiculous, lol...my mom freaked when the nurses kept walking around tellin people to pass gas. That will entertain me for life.

  • i went partially through the prep 4 this 2 year ago,but ran out prior 2 the sedative in fright.the sad thing is i still have bloating and pass blood especially when i have the runs, and i get the odd worm.can u have full anesthetic?iv heard that when sedated u can still feel pain

  • I have had this done before. This is some pain/discomfort in the colon from air pumped in to allow the endoscope to pass through your colon. Yes, they inflate your colon a little bit. After they are done though I my words. I cannot tell you how much gas I had to pass. But it really was not too bad. I have had the Colonoscopy in the past and they put to sleep for that but not for the sigmoidoscopy. :P

  • @jkeelsnc Noooo tomorrow im getting a sigmoidoscopy...i was hoping they would put me to sleep :(

What about privacy in a sigmoidoscopy? Can i cover my penis? lol

  • @Leojk87 Yes. You just take off your underwear but there is just a little hole in the back your butt is. Everything else of covered. Plus doctors know what man and woman genitals look like.

  • I had this procedure done in 2007 and was found to have colon cancer. I wish I had done it earlier when my doctor first suggested it. At that time it would have entailed removing a polyp instead of removal of about a quarter of my colon and resection it together again. The good news is I am cancer free two and a half years later.

  • @shaffer8794 ive had stomach problems for 6 years...always to scared to do this and the upper endoscopy...but im sick of this. i hope they find a polyp i just wanna be healthy. hell id rather them find cancer than nothing then hopefully remove it. i assume you dont need that 1/4 of your colon right? i heard it grows back but thats probably not so true.

    congrats on being cancer free.

  • @rctriplefresh5 Sorry about the delay in answering but I have been enjoying life to the fullest this summer. I have not missed the section taken out to any great extent. The only thing I have noticed is that I can't wait as long as I used to once I feel I need to have a bowel movement. It gets urgent quickly. Otherwise, I eat normally and life is good.

  • @shaffer8794 If you don't mind me asking, what were your symptoms that caused you to get this procedure done? I may need one real soon and I am not looking forward to it.

  • @shaffer8794 does this hurt???(the kolonoscopy not the surgery u had)

  • @shaffer8794, Praise God, no cancer & U R still here with us all, on earth.

  • so r u awake during a colonoscopy? or are u asleep.

  • @twarren8178 lights out. i'd hate to be awake and feel a tube up my ass and intestines.

  • @twarren8178 you're under anesthesia

  • @twarren8178 ur asleep. they inject a needle and remove it and there is a small string left behind. and a connected little plastic tube attached to a small bag. they pretty much put some kind of medicine inside. u wait till ur docter is there in like 10 mins. then u go in the room and then they pretty much just put anesthesia liquid inside with one of those tube thingies and in like exacly 30 seconds u just fall asleep. i live in canada over like 5 million hv done this. ima do it. im only 14

  • @JubalCalif

    Ahh, touche!

  • i have to get one...if i can afford it.. i have all those symtoms but nobodys been able to tell me whats wrong...hopefully this will fix me

  • If they don't find anything then go and see a food allergy specialist as it is very common that food allergies cause the problems such as bloating, stomache aches and diarehia. It's all the bad food we eat these days! Good luck.

  • For my last one, I used Osmoprep pills instead of drinking the prep. I had to take 4 pills every 15 mins for an hour(20) then 12 more in the AM. The pills are very big but much better than drinking that crap. They work fast as long as you stick to the liquid diet in the doctors instructions. I have had small polyps so I have to go every 5 years. When you wake up you will be on your left side with loads of gas . the nurse will tell you it's ok to let it go and once it's out, you go home and eat.

  • The reason for the O2 and monitoring of BP and 02 level during the colonoscopy is because most people get Propafol to sedate them and giviing a person too much could supress the breathing center in the brain. Any good dr. will use your weight to figure the safe dose and almost 100% do. I have had 3 and never had any problems,

  • i go for my first colonoscopy tomorrow. just drank the mixture, nothing yet but i expect a good evacuation. any tips out there re this asshole procedure?? im raging hungry right now, and its hard not to eat....

  • You are doing the hard part now! The test itself it real easy. You will be out and will not feel a thing!! I went thru this twice over a 4 month period. The first one is always difficult. Do not eat a thing, just liquids!!

  • A colonoscopy allows a doctor to look inside the entire large intestine. The procedure enables the physician to see things such as inflamed tissue, abnormal growths, and ulcers. It is most often used to look for early signs of cancer in the colon and rectum. It is also used to look for causes of unexplained changes in bowel habits and to evaluate symptoms like abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, and weight loss. The colon, or large bowel, is the last portion of your digestive tract,

  • when you have rectal bleeding, it´s important to go to see your doctor. There might be several causes. Then the cause can be found and cured. Good luck!

  • im having rectal bleeding and im only 16

sometimes its in my stools but sometimes theres just a bit of blood when i wipe

its not like it just randomly bleeds its just when i wipe of in my stools

could someone tell me whats wrong?

im planning on seeing a doctor soon

  • well im no doctor but i think it could be rectal polyps

  • smileyme1997: yes... definitely go see a doctor. don't let it get any worse... trust me... when i was 14, i weighed 128 lbs and lost 34 in less than a month... its no good..

whogopenguin: i know!! nothing was hurting afterwards but the preparation was AWFUL... ha ha... the lower colonoscopies where they don't put you to sleep really stink though!!

  • I am 14 and I had this & an upper GI endoscopy only 2 days, it was not that bad. I had no pain whatsoever afterwards and was not sore. I did not have a bad throat or difficulty swallowing. Overall, painless procedure.

Worst bit is the bowel preparations. Made me sick on day 2. But the actual procedure was fine lol! And you will be glad to get it over with so you can eat again. =)

  • if I have rectal bleeding, should I see my doctor? I had a colonoscopy about 3 months ago but there was nothing wrong then. But now I have rectal bleeding.

  • I had one of these yesterday, I couldn't breath when they numbed my throat, thankgod for the nose oxygen.

  • me too yesterday. But my eyes were open so I saw few things but wasn't clear.

  • Today i had my frist one I swear I saw them using a tire gauge :)

  • yeah, i suppose you're right. besides, the blood is bright red, and i was told that for it to be anything serious than it would have to be dark, almost black.

  • still that doesnt mean its not serious, u need to go see your doctor if not the emergency room. If your bleeding doesnt subside this means it can be the following: Ulcer/ gastric cancer (late stage), or a hemroid, but if it were gastric cancer you experience a feeling of fullness like if you ate alot after a small meal, i say its a hemroid or an ulcer. Check to make sure, dont ignore this.

  • bloody hurt when they blew air in there but apart from that it was fine, just slightly uncomfortable. if anyones worried about having this done and may be put off coz i mentioned it hurts dont be coz im sure most of you are having it done coz your experiencin stomach painanyway, u shouldnt think anything of it.

  • i had my colonoscopy a month ago. During that time i'm not ready to see what's inside my colon i don't want to see the video. Because i always experience abdominal pain so my doctor advice me to do colonoscopy. The findings is that my colon is clear. Pain that i had experience is one of the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

  • I have blood on my poo! can anyone helP!?? its been going on for about 2-3 days now

  • sometimes it's hemorrhoids within the rectum. They can bleed from straining and irritating stool like diarrhea. Sometimes it takes a while to cool down.

  • The internet should NOT used to replace a doctor. If you have any questions about your health. You should call your doctor. He or she can help you better then the people on You Tube.

  • nice presentation.. I can see the accuracy level is higher than in traditional colonoscope. That's cool.

  • My first exam went very well. The doctor had a 'teaching port', which I used to see inside. Also, I helped the nurses guide the 'scope past my 'flexures'. All in all it was very good.

  • I just had my colonoscopy done earlier today. It was quite intense (for me). I'm very sensitive when it comes to such invasive exams/procedures. The idea of a tube going up my rear end was not pleasant at all. And to top it off, I'm still kind of feeling the effects of that "Pico Salax". Damn...they never told me it would make me sit on the can all day long and make beef stew. Geez.. *Deep Sigh* Oh well, long story short, they took a biopsy and diagnosis may change from IBS to Crohn's. We'll see

  • That sounds very familiar. In the end my diagnosis was changed, though it was from IBS to Ulcerative Colitis. Good luck!

  • Thank you for the information. I'll come back and let you know how my operation went.

  • ive had one it hurts ur ass the next day

  • Mine didn't hurt at all. I was under anesthesia during the procedure and woke up feeling fine.

The worst part of a colonoscopy is drinking that damn Golyte

  • omg i almost threw up after i drank that develish fluid

  • i'm having one tomorrow ahhhhhh, i hope they drug me good.

  • For anyone who's anxious about the procedure; I had this done today and an endoscopy of my stomach at the same time and I honestly had no bother at all. I was out like a light. I'm having so little bit of cramping and gas since they inflate the bowel to see better but it's nothing a hot water bottle on the tummy and a cup of tea wont fix.

  • hello... do they diagnose you before the procedure? If not, is it painful?? - cuz im scared to death ahaha !! ii hate surgery w/o diagnose...ii wan sleep~ w/o feeling the pain

Hope to receive ur reply ASAP =)

  • Based on the symptoms I was having (heartburn etc) my doc made a guess that it was a stomach ulcer, but it was just a guess. A lot of problems in the digestive system have overlapping symptoms so they needed the test to be certain. While they had the cam in they took a biopsy for further testing. I know people who have had this done who were awake they said they hardly felt a thing, just the initial doscomfort of having to help swallow the camera.

  • I've had this done twice, there's nothing to it. It's a little uncomforable, that's all. The real benefit you get is peace of mind, knowing that an expert has actually looked at the inside of your colon - the best way to tell if there are cancerous cells inside. Just make sure your doctor who refers you knows what s/he is doing.

  • The Procedure is the diagnosis. Basically they send the camera up, and IF they see anything they cut. Its not really surgury if nothing is found. They shove it up your rear end "no incision or cutting involved" and only use the cutting tool if and when they find anything.

  • Instead of diagnose.. do you mean anesthetic? A diagnosis is when you have been confirmed to have a medical condition- such as "I have been diagnosed with asthma." Anesthetic is what is used to put you to sleep.

  • Haha, my doctors told me to fart as much as possible while I was still in the surgical room with 9 other patients in the room. Talk about unsanitary thoughts.

  • oh dam. If you had gas, that could be nauseating.

  • LOL I always got gas. I must fart atleast 1x every 5 minutes.

  • In fact colonoscopy causes all these diseases you mentioned as an indications to do it...So F* the shit out

  • I had this done the other day, doctor was a bit rough, my bumhole it still hurts!! :(

  • My husband had his done yesterday and is back at work today,no pain just gas and cramps.

  • Do some research on versed which is frequently used for the procedure...you can insist on other medications without the problems that this drug causes with memory for an undetermined time afterwards. Also you can request a trusted family member to be present during procedure.

  • just had it today, and i have 2 ulcers

  • had it done yesteday the new light and cam is the size of a baseball bat at least it felt like a bat!!!!!!

  • The size of a baseball bat???

  • Nooo don't say that haha I'm even more nervous now.

  • Do you sleep when they do this? I'm not sure.

  • My Dad is Getting This Tomorrow, Thanks Now i Know What There Doing :)

  • i have to have this done tomorrow, thanks for the post ,now i know what expect

  • My dad is getting this tomorrow

  • i'm getting this test pretty soon because i have ulcerative colitis.anybody knows how it's done or what's do?

  • This test is the most abusive in diagnostic procedures...these money hungry 50 + should go into colonoscopy.....building bags of money out of it..no only if you are highly susceptible, have occult blood or positive DNA of feces or have family history..the test is not safe side effects from perforated colon to divertriculitis and may kill you several years after it had been done..don't go blindly too a miserable life after this technique.believe me I did it now disable,,

  • i had dis done without sedation.oh it was really painful.

  • A very informative video. I have to get this procedere done in a couple week. Its gonna tetermine weather i have Diverticulitus, krons desease or if nothing shows up on this precedere, then i might have a missed appendix. Once again, thanks for the post. i know what to expect

  • o my god

  • :X

ILL GO TO BATH On bath:BLUAAA

  • excelente video muy instructivo pero no todos hablamos ingles por eso me gustaria que fuera subtitulado desde ya muchas gracias

saluda muy atte Maria Eugenia de ARGENTINA

  • EXELENTE VIDEO

  • i had this done. it wasn't that bad. i was asleep the hole time. but half way they woke me up and i freak out, so put me back to sleep.

  • lol

  • .... lol!

  • im having this done tomorrow and i really hope i dont wake up...thats whats really scaring me

  • @jenene84 The hole time? Good one!

  • :/ I have to get one next week to see if I have an infection or inflamation. If I don't then they're going to diagnose me with endometriosis or Hobb's syndrome. I'm a wee bit nervous now....

  • A doc. can see the colon only if this lean by using Clean Prep which had bee died to me, by biopsy had shown a nasty infection and even though I was send back home with no treatment given. The proceture was painfully, but doctors in the UK arent really bothered about pain at all cos too many of them are potential killers.

  • What the hell are you talking about?

  • Im talking about having a infection which wasnt treated and nearly lost my life.

  • what type of infection dude i have very little bleeding but idk wat too do

  • many thanks for this information i did this way iam fine now

  • wow wow wow wow That amazing!

  • I had a colonoscopy*

  • i can honestly say i have never had diarrhea

  • Thanks for sharing that, damdog123. I was concerned for you but now I am relieved. :o)

  • I had this. ;(

  • did it hurt?

  • It doesn't hurt exactly but I found it really uncomfortable. And spent about 15 mins on the toilet after.

  • Thank you very much for posting! =)

  • well my brother has been having colonoscopy regularly know. he has ultrative colitis and hes been having realy bad things happen. should i be worried?

  • i have ulcerative colitis. [:

and i had an endoscopy, i was unconscious for it so not so bad. ;D

plink66ftwlaza5 you shouldn't be worried. if it gets to bad they can cure it. [:

  • Yeah very interesting indeed.. I've watched all your vids and im only 15 lol. I find them interesting but i never wanted to be a doctor :D. Nice work anyway

  • same... almost 16

  • My mother needed to go in for a Lower GI procedure. The doctor was having a problem explaining the procedure to her, so he pulled up this 3D Medical Animation demonstrating Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Your animations are wonderful Nucleus Medical Art.

  • Awesome animation! I love how realistic the endoscopic view looks.

  • I found this Lower GI Endoscopy 3d medical animation very interesting. Nice work Nucleus Medical Art!

  • I concure, very informative. I declare an oscure

  • the narration with this 3D medical animation is really helpful. for something this scary, her voice is really soothing and reduces anxiety.

    very educational. thank you.

  • Interesting 3D animation, very informative!

  • If you're over 50, you should probably have this procedure done to check for abnormalities. If you have a family history of colon cancer, you should have it done at 40.

  • Beautiful 3D animation - I love the light from the endoscope! Very informative.

  • Interesting, well done.

  • This is a very educational 3d animation on lower gi endoscopy!
