  • sounds like a sitar!

  • best musician ever!!!!!

  • Many people think this is fake, but it isn't,in 87/88 Nirvana was planning to make a tribute album for Leadbelly and they recorded some covers of him like "They hung him on a cross" and "Ain't a shame",and then the project was abandoned, and this blues song could be one of the recordings for that tribute project!

  • how does your description prove anything lol?

  • its just seventh chords, with a backing guitar. he must of recorded it on a 4 track

  • Definitely has Syd Barrett feel to it. Cool.

  • This sounds perfect for a late 80's computer game. I can imagine it on super mario bros or something lol

  • This is just as haunting as listening to a real bluesman play...

  • he couldve done any genre of music and kicked its ass!

  • that definitely sounds like frusciante

  • Can I please have the tabs if anyone has them :)

  • &nirvanarools1989 Kurt did love Lead Belly. I read somewhere that Lead Belly was one of his all time favorites.

  • Yes, It seems real because is horrible XD

  • born serve the servants melody

  • i fuckin love this.

  • we all no kurt had some sort of skill but as a musician you give a junkie a guitarist and you have kurt get over it he is dead... nothing we can do.. if we didnt have drugs his music wouldnt be as good watch some yngwie stop bitching about kurts death get over it.

  • sooooooooooooooo cute

  • lol...this is not Kurt.

  • @69smitrock69 y do u think that ? cuz its not 3 chords and a shit ton of distortion

  • GODDAMMIT HOW DO I PLAY THIS SONG? Must have the tab!

  • by the way i didn`t think that Kurt can play so good.

are you sure that it`s really Kurt?

  • @k0stil Okay this post is for you and rebelthoughts.

Of course kurt cobain was a good guitarist, a lot better than his melodies needed. Einstein once said any intelligent man can make something great complex and bigger than it is, a touch of genius moves in the opposite direction.

Kurt had complex homemade chords in his journals and tabbed out on random artifacts, and his in utero album uses a lot of harmonic chords.

  • kurt unplugged

  • good

  • This proves that Kurt Cobain's guitar playing was much more than just Punk Rock 4- chord thrashing. He never really got the chance to showcase his true potential. Such a shame.

  • Kurt played some good blues!!

  • this sounds a little like something lead belly would come up with.

  • Is it just me or does this sound like 'Always look on the bright side of life'?!!!aha love it!

  • @princeofthemods69 hey you're right, it does, a little. oh well, that's fine with me because i love nirvana AND monty python

  • I submitted a tab to UltimateGuitar.

Should be pretty accurate, but feel free to contact me.

  • @GrungeStratocaster Hello,

Thanks for tabbing "black and white blues". Your tab seems pretty accurate but I just have one question. Can you send me the tab in chords as I'm an intermediate guitarist and I can't read complex tabs too well. Especially if it's not a chord I'm familiar with. Kurt guitar playing is a bit more technical than usual and that's what makes it so intruiging. I'd really like to learn the song so could you help me out? Thanks in advance.

  • I really love this style of blues but i dont know where it comes from at all :(

  • @BizarreHarper leadbelly was his main inspiration

  • HAHA I love it sooooooooooo much! Grungy blues!

  • can anyone tab this?

  • I bet those guitars behind him are saying, please play me!!

  • ah back in the eighties when u could buy and find a quality guitar at a pawnshop or thrift store. Now with ebay and the internet ,you have to spend a fortune.

  • i think i might tab this out

  • @pedestrianharmright yes! and send it to me please!!

  • @juliMathers theres two guitars going on

the first part are just a7, d7 and that

and from 0:50 i think ive nearly nailed it haha

  • @pedestrianharmright haha ok thanks, I'll try it!

  • How did you get this man!!!!!!!??????????

  • Happy Birthday Kurt Cobain from Czech Republic!

Visit my channel to see the video I made for Kurt's 43rd b-day.

  • This is amazing...but only if your talking in opposites!

  • released on outcesticide iv !

  • this is great

  • it's something like a tribute to Leadbelly.

  • haha this song kicks my ass. I could just see Kurt playing this, high as hell, with a stupid grin on his face.

  • :-) Good description.

  • @fungusdude1 mushrooms haha

  • reminds me of something youd hear in a mario game.

    kurt was a good songwriter/guitarist.

    R.I.P. kurt!

  • hahahaha douchebag. now I have Mario stuck in my head when I listen to this!!! hahahhaha but ya you're right. this song fcukin rules tho. its a leadbelly cover i think. or tryign to play in his style, i forgot lolz

  • This song is genuine, reminds me of lying in a field under a tree down south haha. Almost makes me want to cry. good stuff.

  • pete dohertys 'the whole world is our playground' sounds like this

  • True skills this is pretty much basic blues.

and it good but they have much more complicated songs then this one..

  • Great guitar playing! Kurt is a great guitar player. He never showed off his true skills!

  • I agree but he was a good song writer

  • u r a bonifide idiot

  • Music, just like rest of art, is not about learning. You must feel the music, it´s must be inside of you...

  • u gotta learn too son. or u will grow stale.

  • If you feel it, you can learn it. If you´re learning it, it doesn´t mean that you can feel it...

And you have to do what you want to do, if you´re not interest by music, why to learn???

  • True, but you should give him some credit for doing what he did with those skills.

  • damn it`s really sounds like Frusciante !!!!

    Especially Skin Blues.

And it also sounds like syd barret`s milkyway

  • @k0stil I exactly thought this before i read your comment. It sounds like on niandra lades and usually like a tshirt

  • @k0stil na it sounds more like syd barrett's here i go

  • @k0stil Totally agree with you there. This is a very different style for Kurt. I wish he was still around. I wonder if he'd still be making music and what if it would sound like this.

  • Cara é muito bom esse arranjo que kurt cobain fez , é muito bom !

  • Kurt Cobain's Tribute to Leadbelly. Kurt recorded this as instrumental at a store.

  • this is played on 2 guitar.. i like this song

  • you all must be retarded - and you said whatnot and more importantly - WHO GIVES A SHIT!

leave this poor soul aloine - aint it enough all you fanatics asking dumb questions drove him to kill himself - huh? get a FUCKING life instead of idols and heros.

  • i knew a retard once

  • what the hells wrong with you?

if anyones a "retard" then its you and only you!

  • uh...

  • i am

  • ....fair enough :)

  • Did all those guitars and whatnot belong to Kurt? Or is it a store?

  • store duh!!!!!!!!?????? -.-

  • I think it was in a store.

  • well shit

  • does anyone have the tabs or a site where i can find the tabs for this song?

  • lot of tabs are missing. ans dave grohl or krist novoselic for them=D

  • u see the citar on 0:46 at kurt's righ side?

notice his left hand,... what is he doing?? do the fingers look right at the right hand?

    what's going on?

  • i wonder if this song influenced the writing of the song "serve the servants" which is probably my all time favorite nirvana song. If you play serve the servants slow on acoustic, it sounds kinda bluegrassy. Great stuff, thanks for posting!

  • this thing is in a style of john frusciante`s niandra lades

  • i was wondering 'where did i hear that guitar before?'

    -hero

  • totally agree, thats the first thing i thought of haha

  • ja ich weiß <3

  • HEY,MARCOSUC82,thanks a lot for call us suckers!!!hahah!XD ..same to you!:P Oh,I'm joking ...good video

    Nirvana ayer,hoy y siempre....

  • yeah that message was for all that people who continue asking this is reaaal??? ohh very disgusting

  • actually it went on the album "dressed for success" you can buy it on ebay u idiots

  • this is real, it's a clip from the 1988 demotape cobain made in his home called "mellow four-track shit".

  • Comment removed

  • shame on you sucker, this was surfaced many years ago and was played live!

  • When was this played live?

  • in the description appear

  • FUCK YA

  • Mexican Seafood is hard as fuck to play. Try to play it on guitar. It's not the hardest thing in the world, obviously, but it's very difficult. Also, he played & sang it, making the difficulty level even higher.

  • Mexican Seafood isnt hard to play. u have to just try nad try :) and if kurt could do that u can too :P

  • Trust me, I've been playing for about 5 years and I still think it's a difficult song to play. I've kinda just given up on trying for it for now. It's got such a weird structure.

  • Mexican Seafood is a difficult song to play, not impossible, just difficult.

  • Well although you're right that there are no hard nirvana songs; they did play out of 4/4 in a few songs: Blew starts in 7/8, Beeswax has a 7/4 chorus and If You Must is in 6/8 through out the entire song.

  • What about Mlik It? that doesn't seem to be 4/4 at all.

  • @BenadrylAnnug

Writing a song that isn't in 4/4 doesn't make it complicated in anyway.

  • he is second on top 20 guitarists ever. don't be so sure.

  • Great stuff. Kurt played a 7th chord on Serve The Servants. I think he was capable of playing any style of music he wanted. He was a true artist.

  • kurt is a bluesman and also a prophet..

  • i understand what u mean.

but he wouldnt liked to be called a prophet.

  • It's from the fourth disc of Outcesticide.

It is real, and it is amazing.

  • Were can one get Outcesticide? Because I have looked EVERYWHERE for it, and cannot find it.

  • your local music store should be able to order it in for ya?

  • ebay or download. I dought you;d be able to get it from a music shop 'cos its a bootleg

  • torrent

  • sounds like silent movie music. lol awesome

  • Mark Arm always said he got the feeling Cobain had an old bluesmans soul from the time he first saw him in his garage. At least that is the word on the street here in Tacoma!

  • Why. What is the blues to you. Show me yours , I'll share mine.

  • I agree. Clearly Nationist is wrong, because Kurt loved Leadbelly. Who's Mark Arm?

  • Mark Arm was a local grunge pioneer with his band "Mudhoney".He coined the term "Grunge" and has been all around.

  • damn right

  • BejnXander this is from the box set I think, its real

  • kinda sounds like sumthing you would hear on nianrda les des

  • I was thinking the same thing

The guitars sound the same. I would say that the way this was recorded was probably very similar to frusciante's niandra lades.

On topic, this is great! Didn't know Cobain had it in him

  • How on earth did this get leaked n' who confirmed it was real?

  • so cheerful and jolly! ding ding ding ding ding ding ding dng da da da da da da da da ad da da da da dada

  • this song makes interesting mood

  • shit

  • Haha, I realize that I subconsciously tried to emulate this song. I heard this song three years ago, and when I learned guitar about last year I made something strikingly similar to the opening of this track.

This really shows the versatality of Cobain's playing. It's a shame he had to kill himself; I would love to hear him today playing acoustically in a small coffee shop. After Unplugged, this looked like the direction he could have taken...instead of taking his life.

  • i want the tabs !!

  • i like this song a lot. but where can i get it?? like what CD is it on?

    anyone know???

  • I dont like metal

  • you wanna fight?

    common man!

    I lov this darn fooy!

  • Yea, not to mention the Jaguar and Mustang. You just don't see that in vintage guitar stores nowdays.

  • simply awsome

  • leadbelly influenced

  • yeh this is kurts tribute to leadbelly

  • did he play a jaguar or a jazzmaster

  • jaguar and eventually combined jaguar and mustang to make the jagstang

  • did kurt play with american fenders ?

  • yeah, i think

  • nah i think he said he liked mexican and chineese more because the frets were smaller, i dunno i have an iterview in a magazine.

  • Japanese

  • no no no, it was Japanese made Fender guitars that he liked the best, because of the smaller necks.

  • Esta cancion se llama "Dressed for success"

  • no se sabe que nombre es, pero se llama black and white blues

  • one does not know that it names is, but black is called and white blues

  • B7 G#7

  • i dont know why but this song makes my cry

  • lmao same here...sounds so happy and funny lol but yet sad lol

  • wena este audio esta en los outcesides

  • dudes, thats a leadbelly-cover!!!

  • what song is?

  • yea, he was a fan of leadbelly, and where did you sleep last night is a cover of leadbelly.

  • Nice pic ! - good solo

  • Where Can i get this track ????

  • its Kurt all right. No doubt about it. Listen to some of the raw songs on demos/ bootlegs and WTLO and you'll notice how raw his solo acoustic stuff is - even songs like Rape Me, before he plugged into an amp and polished/embelished the guitar parts.

  • reminds me of old morning cartoons like the black and white ones

  • haha it does!

  • yeah yeah yeah whateva

    IMMA LIAR

    who cares

    nothing matters anyways

  • hahahah, none of you know this is a leadbelly song?

    hahah
