I am a die hard Patriots fan and when I saw this I thought "God damn it, we just lost the game" then suddently this call comes...I knew it was bull, but what can you do? That was all on the refs. I felt bad for the Raiders since they really tried hard to win this game and it gets screwed by one terrible call.
Gee you sound like BITTER FAIDER FANS look you clowns has your chances after this play its not like the game ended and you what even after all these years it still makes my day to see the FAIDERS go down in flames and im not even a Pats fan. Just some one who knows that the FAIDERS are will 4ever be the TIRE FIRE that will never burn out long live the TUCK GAME!
this just proves that the raiders are quitters ... " i knew we werent going to win this game " so many teams win with 1:38 left in the game on a final drive and you just give up? wow so pathetic it was an incomplete pass .... your just mad the gayders will never be as elite as the pats... nuff said

@patsrule213 What do you mean, because everybody besides bandwagon pats fans believes that it was a fumble. Thats why its the top comment of course you don't believe it your name is patsrule.. I've seen the top 10 controversial calls before on nfl network even tom brady just laughs when they would ask him if it was a pass or not, and no thats just a stupid ass rule real or not. If you pump fake your purposely not passing or else you would. Its a bullshit call just admit it.
Thats such a fumble WOW you see how he pumps it pulls it to his chest and than gets sacked.. The ball went straight to the ground it didn't have any air underneath it, yeah it went forward, that's a pump fake though. Fuckin bullshit
Even if you are pump faking, it is still a pass because of the tuck rule. And search "top 10 controversial calls nfl total acces" and watch Rich Eisen admit to the world that it was in fact the proper interpretation of the tuck rule, then spits all over the tuck rule. And this video has been up for a year an a half, why is the top comment on this page that the call was incorrect. Why are people so stupid?
It make me feel sad when I think how if this was called a fumble then brady and belichick would have never gone on to cheat and win 3 super bowls and the nfl would be much better
CLEARLY a fumble, freaking laws of physics...if his arm was going forward, then shouldnt the ball go forward too?? Intertia anyone??? The Testaverde replay has the ball going directly forward...this was a fumble, just like Williams said, you KNOW when a player fumbles...Tom did.
I remember hearin' Bob Trumpe sayin' a million times on the radio just said "That's a terrible call!" I'm never gonna forget it, that's why I hate New England!
I'm hopeing somebody from Boston or Oakland could upload thee entire december-1976 Patriot/Raider playoff game, not just the SugarBear Hamilton/Ken Stabler happening! That way everyone could be reminded of exactly what occured throughout the entire game. Then we all could get to the bottom of this. Because i don't see the connection from the 1976 game to the january 2002 game. Especially when these two organizations have been competing against each other in the SAME conference for 25 years!
@willybilly008 Why do you need to see the whole 1976 game? Pats were robbed at the end of the 4th quarter. So badly in fact that the referee who made the call was never allowed to referee a Patriots game ever again in following years. His name was Ben Drieth. Btw, Pats beat The Raiders earlier that season & were the only team to beat them. Also, on another play in the late 4th quarter, there was no pass interference called when a Raider leveled Russ Francis w/o the ball. That game was so fixed.
What's so amazing is that a post season game against these two teams 25 years earlier had another contraversal call that clearly should have gone to New England instead went to Oakland's favor.
Man stuff really hurts like that is really shocking. I mean it had to have been an act of the New England Patriot unrested spirits or something. I mean 25 years (good round number) and against the same teams.
@VanillaLimeCoke You're reffering to the 1976 play-off game in oakland & the "Hamilton/Stabler" play and call. That call, which went against the Patriots, was NOT a controversial ruling. It was most definitly a very bad call(against SugarBear Hamilton,Patriots d-lineman)that should never have been made! The Patriots got ripped-off on that play......that is accurate to say! And that never should have happened that late in the game. Also though, the Raiders got robbed of 4 points earlierinthegame
It's been almost ten years since the new england patriots "ripped-off", at a highlevel of insanity, the 2001 NFL World Championship from one Mr. Al Davis & the Oakland Raiders!! And it's been six days since Al passed away. Somebody, maybe the NFL or President Obama, should step in right now & STRIP the patriots of the 2001 championship and then place thee trophy/rings where they belong......Oakland,CA. This should have been done before Mr. Davis left us, but it most certainly is not to latenow
The rule is a fail. If we still have to talk about it so many years after, the rule should be eliminated. It's as vague as it is bad. Why can't the QB just constantly run around tucking the ball, tuck, tuck, tuck, which would mean that if he's sacked and loses the ball, it's the tuck rule and incomplete pass. What were they thinking when they designed the rule? Tucking is the same as passing? It plainly is different. Tucking to not throwing the ball, it's the complete opposite.
This is probably one of the craziest plays in history. It pretty much started the patriots dynasty and hurt the raiders dynasty. Anyways, RAIDER NATION!!! :D
@zerahawk3 Exactly!! And that's how the ref called it in "live time"! It was a fumble and everybody on the new england patriots new it, as well!!! There was no need to "over-rule" this play, especially using instant replay! Using "instant replay" only more accuratly shows that tom brady DID fumble the football after being hit legally. The ne pats need to turn over this world championship to the Oakland Raiders!!!
@Gizmo524 You know it and I know it, and I imagine the refs and replay officials know it... but apparently Bill Belichick doesn't know what he's talking about, because he states in this video that Brady is tucking the ball and it will be an incomplete pass. WRONG, BILL! If you tuck the football it becomes a fumble, not an incomplete pass, please read the rule, last sentence of the rule posted on Wikipedia/Tuck Rule Game. We got screwed because A) Refs don't know how the rule works, or crooked.
Search top 10 controversial calls nfl total access and watch Rich Eisen tell the world that it was in fact the proper interpretation of the tuck rule and then spit all over the tuck rule. And the nfl rulebook stated that "All video shooting locations must be enlcosed with a roof overherad". So it was the location of the videotaping that was illegal, not the actual videotaping.
@mikec81 hahaha get off the period buddy, mistakes happen and the raiders still had a chance to win that game...it comes down to determination and that wanting to progress torwards the superbowll
@TightPantsAreGay1 Know my Pats. He'll take them to a few Super Bowls...or we'll somehow manage to get yet another elite quarterback if Mallet doesn't work out. Either way, the Pats will end up winners. You Mad?!
@yoshiscute you act like the pats are immune to a bad stretch... like the pats are a perennial powerhouse or something... newsflash: aside from the Tom Brady years, the Pats have sucked.
@yoshiscute you act like the pats are immune to a bad stretch... like the pats are a perennial powerhouse or something... newsflash: aside from the Tom Brady years, the Pats have sucked.
oh shut the fuck up with this "it was a bad call". how was it a bad call if its in the rule book? sure its a stupid rule but nonetheless its a rule so stop complaining. super bowl 40 was a bad call. this play wasn't.
Al Davis did a lot for football and won three rings and should have won four. people always hate those that do things their own way. Narrow minded people hate what the don't understand.
Listen to Ice Cube's interview about Al Davis and you will see not everyone hated Al Davis. May he rest in peace.
You are ignorant and hate what your pea mind does not understand. what a loser
The Oakland Raiders organization are proud owners of FOUR north american pro-football World Championships---->1976,1980,1983 & 2001. COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE(absolutely correct! Keep up the great work & passion Al D.
Yes the tuck rule is a rule but i hate how the officials ruled it... this is what the official said after reviewing the play "the quarterback arm was going forward, therefore its an incomplete pass" the referee said that. No mention of the fucking tuck rule... the tuck rule was mentioned until the game was over when the NFL was trying to save their ass!!!
The Vinny hit was not similar at all. Vinny's arm was coming forward and he did not have two hands on the ball. Tom had brought the ball back to himself and had two hands on it. Fumble as far as I'm concerned.
Woodson laid a clean hit, and Brady was not passing the ball. It was a chickenshit call, and the Raiders have never been the same since. However, I see a new fire burning within with Hue Jackson at the helm, and Chuck bresnehan back again.
@ElConquistador24 Absolutely right on the money!! And because of that "off-the-charts INSANE" overruleing call, Al Davis and every member of that 2001 Oakland Raider team were COMPLETLY ROBBED of the World Championship!!! That's why, to this day, i call the Oakland Raiders 2001 legitimate WORLD CHAMPIONS!(they're just uncrowned-that's all. Take care now, and hold your Raider-lovin head up high! Because all any patriot fan can do is bow their head towards the ground--->EVERYDAY IN DISGRACE!!!
Nfl analysts have determined that it was the proper interpretation of the tuck rule. And after that play why didn't the Raiders stop the Patriots from getting into field goal range, and they had a chance to stop them in overtime. And how are the Raiders World Champions in 2001 when they lost the game vs the Patriots? They lost 16-13. When you lose a playoff game, you aren't the champions for that year. And nfl analysts have determined that it was the correct call.
@patsrule213 Definitely shouldn't be though mainly because he didn't even realize he was going to be hit. Maybe if he saw the hit coming and tried to bring the ball back in it would be more understandable (still would be stupid though), but he just brought the ball in because he wasn't going to throw. Dumb call, period, just becasue you are a Pats fan doesn't mean you have to be blind to bad calls.
@ElConquistador24 Absolutely right on the money!! The tuck rule protects quarterbacks, by making it a pass even when they aren't throwing a pass. By the rulebook it was the proper interpretation of the tuck rule. Nfl analysts have determined that it was the proper interpretation of the tuck rule but agree that it's a dumb rule. And Woodson's hit was clean, but a small amount of people say that, don't worry about people who tell you that Woodson's hit was dirty because it wasn't.
I don't know, I mean it looks like he lost the ball right after he stopper. Could go either way according to the rule, but we all know that was a fumble. And that Jets play that Bill Cheatachick was talking about is not even close to the same thing
To be honest, the super slow mo instant replay ruins alot of shit as good as its intention. No need to inspect a play for 20 fucking minutes to try and FIND something to call. Fuck that, make a call on the field.
"It wasn't a bad call, it was a bad rule"... Fuck that. Referee's aren't robots, they make judgement calls all the time. You don't just pull some obscure technicality out of your ass when the game is on the line. Especially when common sense tells you otherwise. FUCK THAT CALL.
@e88ish i'm a raider fan since 1975,i don't blame refs or speculate what ifs.scoreboard says it all.if you deserve too win then you should not be in position for a freakish call or play decide a game.as far as the raiders 3 super bowls to 4,i agree.al davis screwed that by not kissing grudens ass."chucky" gruden had that team on a monster roll, and then when meeting the raiduhs in the SB,he coached out of knowledge of how to destroy what he built.Kudos Chucky
Brady's intent was to not throw the ball, so how can you even call that an attempt a a pass? He held onto the ball, and then got stripped... Im a chargers fan people, i hate the raiders. but the raiders got fucked over there and thats not fair.
The patiots didnt creat a dynasty themselves, it was handed to them by roger godell and his knowing and allowing them to cheat, rigged games, and bs ref calls. Tom brady knew he fumbled, what other proof do you need?
Love every minute of Raiders morons whining. 1976 roughing the passer was just a makeup call by the refs. Tuck rule was a makeup call for that sham. Keep on bitching though, it's great.
@raider1297 Have to love every second of raider fans bitching. All of the bullshit that they pulled over the years.
Charger fans love the holy roller play. Bullshit defined. Karma is great. Oh, by the way, enjoy watching the pathetic raiders because they will never do anything until well after idiot Al is long gone. Long live Al Davis!
Fumble!!!

NFL Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.[1]
NeaceMode 1 month ago
@patsrule213 Oh and what about the fact he had 2 hand on the ball right before he got sacked.
WestWordHo209 1 month ago
@patsrule213 What do you mean, because everybody besides bandwagon pats fans believes that it was a fumble. Thats why its the top comment of course you don't believe it your name is patsrule.. I've seen the top 10 controversial calls before on nfl network even tom brady just laughs when they would ask him if it was a pass or not, and no thats just a stupid ass rule real or not. If you pump fake your purposely not passing or else you would. Its a bullshit call just admit it.
WestWordHo209 1 month ago
Thats such a fumble WOW you see how he pumps it pulls it to his chest and than gets sacked.. The ball went straight to the ground it didn't have any air underneath it, yeah it went forward, that's a pump fake though. Fuckin bullshit
WestWordHo209 1 month ago
@WestWordHo209

I'm hopeing somebody from Boston or Oakland could upload thee entire december-1976 Patriot/Raider playoff game, not just the SugarBear Hamilton/Ken Stabler happening! That way everyone could be reminded of exactly what occured throughout the entire game. Then we all could get to the bottom of this. Because i don't see the connection from the 1976 game to the january 2002 game. Especially when these two organizations have been competing against each other in the SAME conference for 25 years!
willybilly008 3 months ago
@willybilly008 Why do you need to see the whole 1976 game? Pats were robbed at the end of the 4th quarter. So badly in fact that the referee who made the call was never allowed to referee a Patriots game ever again in following years. His name was Ben Drieth. Btw, Pats beat The Raiders earlier that season & were the only team to beat them. Also, on another play in the late 4th quarter, there was no pass interference called when a Raider leveled Russ Francis w/o the ball. That game was so fixed.
pewsterbaby 3 months ago
FUMBLE!!!!
SPXclothing 3 months ago
What's so amazing is that a post season game against these two teams 25 years earlier had another contraversal call that clearly should have gone to New England instead went to Oakland's favor.
Man stuff really hurts like that is really shocking. I mean it had to have been an act of the New England Patriot unrested spirits or something. I mean 25 years (good round number) and against the same teams.
VanillaLimeCoke 3 months ago
@VanillaLimeCoke You're reffering to the 1976 play-off game in oakland & the "Hamilton/Stabler" play and call. That call, which went against the Patriots, was NOT a controversial ruling. It was most definitly a very bad call(against SugarBear Hamilton,Patriots d-lineman)that should never have been made! The Patriots got ripped-off on that play......that is accurate to say! And that never should have happened that late in the game. Also though, the Raiders got robbed of 4 points earlierinthegame
willybilly008 3 months ago

The Vinny hit was not similar at all. Vinny's arm was coming forward and he did not have two hands on the ball. Tom had brought the ball back to himself and had two hands on it. Fumble as far as I'm concerned.
Randomnoobi 4 months ago
Woodson laid a clean hit, and Brady was not passing the ball. It was a chickenshit call, and the Raiders have never been the same since. However, I see a new fire burning within with Hue Jackson at the helm, and Chuck bresnehan back again.

That's why, to this day, i call the Oakland Raiders 2001 legitimate WORLD CHAMPIONS!(they're just uncrowned-that's all. Take care now, and hold your Raider-lovin head up high! Because all any patriot fan can do is bow their head towards the ground--->EVERYDAY IN DISGRACE!!!
willybilly008 4 months ago
@willybilly008
And nfl analysts have determined that it was the correct call.
patsrule213 4 months ago
@patsrule213 Definitely shouldn't be though mainly because he didn't even realize he was going to be hit. Maybe if he saw the hit coming and tried to bring the ball back in it would be more understandable (still would be stupid though), but he just brought the ball in because he wasn't going to throw. Dumb call, period, just becasue you are a Pats fan doesn't mean you have to be blind to bad calls.
