@TheEllaHunt Got it from a stencil place...just do a search for Culinary Stencils because I just forgot where I got it. sorry, but thanks for letting me know it helped. (the place has wall stencils and food grade stencils if that helps. one of the other videos has the info I think..)
@3poppyseeds Hi, you can apply to the sides of the cake as well, just make sure that you decorate one layer at a time, in other words don't stack until your done or the powder will go all over the place. Decorate then stack. Hope this helps.
@3poppyseeds , it will not really smear but if you are going to rub it hard of course it will. the thin layer of shortening will keep it mostly in place. If it smears a little you can take a little white alcohol like gin or vodka on the tip of a q tip and wipe it off.
@jennydagreat , Hi, first of all thank you for commenting and it's a brush that I got from Cal Java. They are a cake supply company in California. They used to give it away as a promotional item but I don't know if they still do that or you have to order it. you can also use a big fluffy make up brush ( a good one) but I find I waste a lot of powder using one of those.
@MrDameattree ...if you tell me what you are trying to do maybe I can direct you. No , I used to make home made then used homemade and comercial 50/50 now all commercial. But there are other things that are considered fondant, like the icing on a cookie or donut.
@Blingblong20 Yes you can smear buttercream onto the stencil, just make sure the cake is iced and refrigerated, and the buttercream is stiff/set, then you can stencil it with lustre dust or icing. you can stencil a fondant covered cake too :D
Hi to answer some questions, I used a little bit of crisco to attach the stencil and to have the powder stick to the fondant. If you want to do this to the side of a cake you're not going to roll out a piece, you will attach the stencil to the side of your cake and work it about the same
i love it thank you for the tutorial....just wondering how we put it on the side of the cake if we wanna decorate the side of the cake? because i tried and it's so difficult and because it still wet and the dust is sticky
very cool indeed. i wish that i had your equipment when i was a baker. i had to make my own stencils. by the way if your camera was a cat it would have 8 lives left ;-{}

Do you apply to the sides of a fondant covered cake as well, and does the dust smear if you do this?

Thank you for making this tutorial! The pattern is so beautiful. How long will it take for the powder to dry so it can be touched without smearing?
cakedecoratingmomma 2 years ago
As you can see from the other short vids I was able to handle it pretty much right away.
