Good video... The only comment I would make is that I would position the transmitter on the front side of the right fork, so that if the transmitter ever gets too close to the spokes it will simply push it away as the wheel turns, as opposed to potentially ripping the transmitter off... And I also opt'd to install the transmitter up high on the fork keeping it as close as possible to the head unit and as far as possible away from the road and dirt.... that's how I installed mine... works great!
Great post, really helped me! By the way you should measure your actual wheel circumference rather than just reading it off a chart. Lay a tape measure out and align the valve of your front wheel at 0mm. Sit on the bike and push it forward until the valve reaches the bottom again. This is your measurement. The wheel circumference is affected by your weight and tyre pressure as well as the wheel and tyre size.
CR 2032 batteries are a very common/popular size for many applications - I'd recommend buying a packet of 5 or 10 on Amazon or eBay... cheap! WAY cheaper than going to your local "watch store" in the mall. And then you'll have them handy for doing your next project too.
I have had the Strada Double Wireless since last summer. Just like this model only with cadence included. Once set up it has been the easiest and most useful cyclometer I've ever used.
@iraaado All my computers die for one reason or another... The Cateye Astrale 8 seems to be a wired version of a computer I also have which has worked fine. I don't like having to hit two buttons to reset it, but other than that, it's a great computer.
@chrospoke i just bought and installed it. a bit ghetto, but it works, couldn't put it on my Jamis, it wont mount to the fancy shaped chainstay in such a way where it would read both cadence and speed. the cadence magnet is a pain it the arse to install as you need to have it almost touching the sensor, which is hard to do considering everything mounts to the bike using zip-ties. But, after considerable fiddling around, i did get it to work, and well...it works..on a trek 7.5 disc(if that helps)
Great video...popping the battery out is a pain in the butt and I didn't see how to do so until seeing this. Direct downard presure on one side will make the other side come up and make it pop out. And, to cwhite100's comment about saving the battery by moving the receiver out because of less frequency of passing, this is incorrect. Basic pendulum physics, it will always pass at the same freqecy, anywhere on the spoke.
Thanks for posting this! Very helpful for getting to the battery without shredding the casing.
I just replaced my battery after about 2000 miles. One suggestion on battery life is to move the wireless transmitter up the fork a bit.
That way, it's closer to the computer ~and~ because the magnet is now further from the axis of the wheel, it's hitting the transmitter less frequently.
Thanks for making this video, I was just fighting with the battery cover for all of this morning until I remember youtube! Sure enough I found your video. thanks!
Just a reminder. Don't always go by the default or recommended wheel size in the instructions. The recommended one was off by about 40-50 after I did a a full wheel roll-out and measured it. I would always recommend rolling the wheel and measuring it from start to finish (in mm).
One tip: instead of trying to pry the battery cover...simply push down on one edge, usually just using your finger, and the other side will pop up a bit. Cateye has the manuals online in the event you need them.
I bought this computer and put it on my MTN bike but it would not pick up the magnet so had to return it. I could not get the magnet close enough to the sensor and per the directions you need to be a hairs width between the magnet and sensor. I do not see how that is possible on a mtn bike.
i have this and i love it! theres a new cat eye double wirless strada from rei. But its $100! i love this computer and your video is very helpful thankyou!
Thanks for taking the time to make this. Changed my battery and reset everything in less than 5 minutes.

Thanks friend, helped me a bunch!
FYI: Using a razor blade on the batter cover in the computer worked pretty well, you just have to dig in then pry.

Great vid thanks, especially the bit about re-entering your previous miles, i was gutted when i thought i'd lost my mileage!
For wheel size chart and original instructions (for printing out) go to:

The manual says to push on the batter cover with a finger. While that wasn't intuitive it was easy and beats prying it with a screwdriver.

@chrospoke Yes - I like this computer very much, easy to use, numbers are easy to read and it hasn't died yet and I've had it several years now.

THANK YOU for posting this! Until I watched this, I couldn't figure out how to change the time of day after changing the battery.
BTW, I used a small knife to pry out the battery cover, which seemed to work better than using a small screwdriver.

I had the same problem with another brand, the recommended gap was 2-5mm, I can't seem to get it any closer than 10mm on the MTN bike.
