I am two weeks post op and I had the same lapriscopal surgery. Pain is now gone, stiches and steri strips removed, sight looks a little strange, but doc says it will even out in time. I played around for over five years, looks nice to see my "inny" again!
I got an umbilical hernia after my son was born and I held off as long as I could, but I just had laparoscopy surgery through my belly this last Friday. It hurt worse than my c-section and was constipated for days. Hot prune juice and a teaspoon of Trader Joe's Vitamin C Crystals were the only thing that helped me be regular after such an operation. I strained all my neck muscles the first day bc I didn't want to use my abdominal muscles. It is a painful surgery, but much <3 if you have too.
i had umbilical hernia surgery last week damn.. was weird as heck but went smoothly and i am healing pretty good if any1 is going through this surgery dont worry about it its chill ull be fine im not going to lie though alot of pain for the first 2 days after the surgery but it pasifies with time im about a week and 4 days post op to be exact and i have rly no pain anymore gotta admit tho watching this vid freaks me out rofl
Got this done, I didn't want to look at this video until I got this done.. But anyway it's a real easy surgery dosen't hurt much until your having the after-pain.
A strangulated umbilical hernia is no fun. I'm a week out now and healing nicely. The hardest part of recovery is return to normal bowel habits. I'm glad it was done with a 'scope and under anesthesia, 'Zippers' -a long incision take longer to heal. I'm so glad not to be bulging anymore, and now am looking for what happens now. Abdominal support? Will I be able to strengthen abdominal muscles? How long before I can attempt sit-ups? Qwesting....
Just saw my GP and he'll be referring me for surgery. I am anxious to get it done and over with so I can get on with my life without the weirdness and achy feeling of the hernia (mine is quite small). This footage was helpful. Very reassuring that it's outpatient and sedative rather than anesthesia.
Guys, you HAVE to get this done if you have it. A strangulated bowel is not what you want!
the keyhole surgery looks a lot more tricky and not as clean and easy as open? I've got to go through this soon and I think I'll opt for open if they give a choice as it looks like it's more secure than on this key hole surgery
I have to get this done in 3 days and being a medical student I find watching these videos to be quite calming because it is not so much that I am afraid of surgery its just that I do not like not knowing what is happening to me and seeing this has made me a hell of a lot less nervous then I was thanks mate for posting this.
Im 14 and i have to get the surgery ; my friend said she had hers when she was 12 and she woke up crying after her surgery because she was in so much pain.. she even had to be out of school for a week. Im scared to get it
I had this done when i was seven years old!! Its just a bit uncomfortable at first but theres no visible scarring and im 19 now :) No pain or anything since i had it donee
i have had repair of an unbilical (actually lateral to the umbilicus) hernia already when I had my gallbladder removed. The hernia has sense return and is now bigger than ever. My question is, if I have this done again, what are the chances of it reopening? And can I resume regular muscle building exercises for the abdomen?
@christyk3377 I have the exact same situation. Had gall bladder surgery & Umb hernia repair in 2003. Mesh was placed. Now the bulging belly button & pain has returned My fam Dr says --not a big deal. I don't agree. I had a previous surgery-same area-for a hernia where no mesh was placed. I also have had a right inguinal hernia repair. I don't like having surgery--why is this happening repeatedly?? Why isn't the mesh holding??
@Fiona1242 im sorry to hear that. gosh. usually the mesh holds forever. I have never heard of a repeated hernia where a mesh had been placed. hope it gets better for you!
thats gross i had one of those monday feb the 1st it was nasty and im still hurtin and this video dont help..i will try not to have one of these again but i had mine at riley hospital in 2010..
and there's nothing to be "excited" about over an umbilical hernia... had mine forever and still on the wait-list to get it repaired... trust me, i haven't been excited.
My doctor said that my umbilical hernia can heal itself if I lose weight. Is this true? I'm 5.8 and weigh almost 250 pounds. I will be starting a workout & diet plan within the next week to avoid surgery.
@offthehook6 Absolutely not, a hernia in this matter is a tear in the muscle wall which never will grow back together. However the mesh/plug should keep the hernia from coming back. I think your doctor has secondary gain issues regarding your situation.
Thanks ValentineSuicide1. I was really hoping to avoid surgery because it scares the living hell out of me. Everyone says a hernia is routine surgery and nothing to worry about but knowing that I'm going to be sleeping while it all happens is what scares me. Well then this week i'm going to call my doctor and talk with him about this more.
@offthehook6 Hi Well I've had this Hernia for about 20 years. One Dr told me the same that it would heal itself if I lost weight. I am 5.7 and I weighed 210 pounds. I decided some months back to lose some weight. I lost 30 pounds and down to 170. the Hernia is still there. Saw a surgeon yesterday and he says losing weight will not avoid surgery. Can't really work out with situps or anything but I do have a Ellipitical Trainer that is killing me! HA HA. Good luck. On both the weight loss.
I just had mine done three days ago. So far so good and it does not hurt as bad as I thought it would. Don't get me wrong I am uncomfortable, but I have only taken a couple of IBprofrin.
I live in Canada and mine was free we don't pay a cent for any operation or doctors visit's..and you can get 2 or 3 different opinions and chose the specialist you want.........Canada is Great for medical coverage.
I wonder why, btkm128, someone gave you a thumbs down (not me). Could it be stateside jealousy, I wonder? In the UK, it's the same - treatment free of charge, courtesy of the NHS. It seems to me that if you're in the states, not very well-off, and ill - then you're stuffed. So much for the States "equality for all". Best wishes, Les (UK).
had mine done yesterday, feel like ive been stabbed with a broken bottle, so far its hard to sit up and sit down will someone go the shop and get me stronger painkillers please.
@ambc98 dont worry, its a quick out patient same day procedure. I had this done last year... there is a scar but its small...and youre out of it the whole time. youll be fine. If you dont get it and it get strangulated, you can die, so just do it. lol

I just had my repair yesterday. I got to go home the same day. My first surgery. I was worried for 2 months since I found out about my hernia. Coming out of the anasthesia was one of the worst feeling I have ever felt. I need another surgery (parathyroid) I am scared to death of the anasthesia.
is it better with the laser or the regular one? which one is the smallest scar? I had the laser one when they removed my appendix and there lil scars is it the same for the hernia with a mesh? I'm getting mine done this coming thursday and its scary to think about:( i've also had a c-section before, but never anything added inside of me like a mesh:(
fuck me sideways... im going to the hospital tomorrow for mine .. im scared shitless ... never had an surgery before kinda freaking out... wish me luck youtube people =(
hey guys! thanks for all the reply!!! my surgery went well and i recovered without any problem ! :P it came to cost me about $750~$800 it wasn't a big deal at all still I was quite freaked out because its was my first operation but still ! :P
Had mine done 3 weeks ago, the scar has healed nicely now and is only 5 cm. Its a very minimal scar (abt 10-12 mm) and another 5 mm in the left side of abdomen. But with the passage of time, these tend to reduce a bit (depends from person to person). Regards !!
ouch...! I just had my hernia fixed two days ago, the graphics in this video made me feel what went on inside of me...ughhhh, thank God I survived THAT! lol.
Yeah i had my Surgery on Wednesday, this week. The pain is horrible after the first day, but the second day the pain starts to drop... Got a nice big scar across me stomach now! Funny thing was i said, "How do woman have Sizariums?!" Lol! True, but really, mine hurt enough lol.

No they can't be done under local Anesthetics, thats only for "Cysts" Cases. I would recommend having it out, I was told with an information sheet with all the risks Umbilical Hernias can have. Can cause Strangulation. Will have to be done through Hospitals.
Beg to differ - I had mine done last week using local anaesthetic alone and no mesh. I would also recommend having it done because of what I was told was approximately a 1% risk of incarceration / strangulation, where a loop of intestine can get caught and inflamed.
My daughter is 3.5 yrs old and is having umbulical hernia from birth. The swelling was very big when she was an infant, but has reduced now. But we can feel a 1-2 cm gap in her naval. She occassionally complains of a tummy ache. Is a surgery needed for her, or the gap will close after some time?

It's been about 2-3 months since I had the surgery and I'm back lifting weights and training in wresting and MMA. The only problem is that after some of my matches my groin gets sore. Hopefully that will fade, but to answer your question, yes you will be able to lift after 2 months.... Just take it slow with some lighter weight until you get your strength back.
