Who intentionally searches up magic acts on YouTube and makes ignorant comments about them? WTF is that? If I think something is going to bore me watching it...I DON"T FUCKING WATCH IT!!!
Boring?! Are you people crazy? That was incredible entertaining. It was a killer illusion that I am fairly certain anyone who commented on this video does NOT know how it was done. It was visually captivating. Close up magic is amazing and this show has demonstrated a lot of that. But what it has not shown is a really good "big" stage illusion and of them all, that was the best by a long shot! Stop pretending like magic isn't really magic...of course it's not!
Thanks for posting!!! Penn and Teller guess without telling a letdown BUT that holds to the magic code AND does not ruin peoples lives. VERY CLASSY. Can you tell I am a fan?
that was the slowest, most esoteric, least fun act i've ever seen! sure, it fulfilled the "how'd they do that" criteria for magic but totally failed to entertain. meh.
i got bored within the first 4 minutes and i just started fast forwarding throught the video...wtf goes on in that act, i still cant watch the whole thing
The girl did all the tricks, and she was pole-dancing, that's why all the magics happened only when the pole was behind the floating box, or when the taller guy was behind it (the girl wrapped her legs around his waist). More like an acrobat.
I think the girl is just holding herself up by wrapping her legs around the pole. And then later around the dark haired guy's waist. The way acrobats do.
@willyolio This is my stab in the dark: magnets. Maybe the 8 corners or maybe even the 12 sides of the box were magnets and there were 4 electro-magnets in the base with a guide electro-magnet in the pole. Using 2 PLCs [programmable logic controller], a few relays & a large battery, I think this could be done. Using the PLC, you can time it almost perfectly. Remember their arms going up with the box? Though I might be guessing this because I have an electronics engineering hobby.
For this kinds of acts that require a great deal of technical work "TELLER" is the best, it kind of reminded me of his "Shadow Illusion" (which can be seen in the suggested videos) same principle but different application?? mmm... i have no fucking idea how they did it :S
The ending of the first act would have been even better if when the lights came back on, they had their original suits back on :) The music was epic aswell, I couldn't figure out what the fuck was going on until the box started to float.
When they move the lamp post into place the woman fixes a horizontal pole into it through the far side of the cube. She then uses this as a platform to sit on and moves the cube around her. That's why the cube moves in all ways except for rotating around its vertical axis, which it can't do because of the horizontal pole (you can even see its shadow 4:15). When the lamp post is moved away the horizontal support must fix to the dark haired guy in a similar way (though he must be very strong!)
Isn't this season 1? Why do they say he returned? Same with the last episode, one of the guys came back? Was there a previous show that was different from this? or a previous season?
Look people, either post your admiration or your dismay, but please don't ruin the tricks for others. Most of the time you're wrong and you look like a fool, the rest of the time you're being disrespectful of the craft.
This box routine feels like it's been going on an hour and I'm not even sure what the trick is...the whole stage is dark, there's a billion ways the frigging box can be floating...and yet it feels like this will never end.
By rig and rigging i ment a strong metal pipe or something along those lines. Look up that levitating guy from india floating with his hand resting on a walking stick. That's the basic principal, i believe, this trick used to acomplish this paticular illusion. Very original use of that principal though. I'd still wont them in my show, if i had one.
by the way how many of you guys posting are actually magicians? just curious. i dont know any other magicians anywher where i live.Thanx.
When the box is floating you see the shadow of the pole with no leg shadow. My guess, since the box never leaves the table and it never goes more then about a foot up give or take, she's sitting indian style on a small elevated platform the has a supporting rigging. the rig attaches from behind her platform and wraps around (so someone can stand directly behind the box) and then the rig goes down behind the pole/magicain, until it makes another half circle or unfineshed square back to the table.
just me who found that boring? dont know if it is like this, but my guess would be that when she is "floating" she actually is just climbing the pole (and when they remove that you can see the guy is bending his knees abit so she can stand there) dont know if that's correct but it seems like it because i cant see her 'floating' when there is nothing behind her.
@LolCaramelz That solution sounds good, but what about at 7:28 when shown from above, with no pole and no legs sticking out from behind or around the back guy, and the box is still levitating?
I love this show, we hardly get any Penn & Teller here in the UK ... thank goodness for YouTube!! dly get any Penn & Teller here in the UK . . . thank goodness for YouTube!! :D
