US decided to jump on the bandwagon to remain relevant, preserve NATO and have a say in Europe. The US administration realized that by supporting muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo they could showcase their impartiality before Turks, Saudis, Pakistanis, Egypt... .

Most importantly, US saw Kosovo as an opportunity to effectively create a NATO country in Europe and weaken Russia by dismembering Serbia, its potential ally.
