Yes, many things doesn't make any sense. The first version of himself will be dead of old age before that letter reaches himself 1000 years in the future. Why would the future generations pass the letter for him for the next 1000 years? Even if they tried, it would be hard to not lose the letter or get it destroyed. How would the future generations know what he looked like in the first place and where to meet him to give him the letter? They didn't have cameras back then.

I'm Chinese too, I know the culture well. Also the 喜 in 7-喜 means to like or love something. Good guess though. Most of the time, soda brand names pronounced in Chinese sound very similar to the English name, 7-up is a weird one. Like Coca Cola. 可口可樂. has the same number of syllables as Coca Cola. Pepsi (百事) in Chinese sounds very similar to English too. 7-up translated literally should be 七-上 but it sounds like crap. so they changed it to 7-喜 to make it sound better I think.
