“This is dedicated to our glorious leaders - or at least some of them we saw fit to take us to a war that no body wanted. Kill thousands of - if not tens of thousands - of innocent people. And they shall go to their grave with it on their conscience, and I hope that’s okay for them.” -Thom Yorke
Every piece of Radiohead music is like a lump of clay at the release, who is slowly molded in the following years into a ever increasingly beautiful piece. They reinvent their own songs in a way that one can only stare in awe... and love.
just listen to it love it take it in don't argue about your individual bullshit thats what is splitting you apart from reality this man made the song out of heart enjoy the little things you have in life.
@TheTesseract123 I'm lonely, but there is no link between these two things, that's bullshit. The "we" is for all Radiohead fans. If you don't like this song, it's all right, you can even say it in the comments (Not like a kid, be polite and show respect). But don't insult people that like it, that's just fucking immature.
@goodgodyou It's not that they have it when others don't, it's that they are so fucking ungrateful for everything they own, and so ignorant of those that will die because they can't even have a glass of water.
Those cheering at the end of this video are among the luckiest individuals on the planet. This song, particularly this live version, reveals man's greed in perfect detail. Western civilisation is a disgrace, and this is obvious to anybody even in their own homes - to see such massive spending on supposed necessities like plasma-screen televisions and central heating, when these not only insult those who are starving due to their lack of money, most are also destroying the world. Fuck you all.
My second favourite live version. In 2003 radiohead cancelled their second show in Australia, which was going to be simulcast on the radio. I was poised with a cassette player - instead they played a special BBC live set I've never heard anywhere else. It has a jaw-dropping version of this song. I think Thom's voice is a bit shit in this version, how can I not love it though, I'm a radiohead tragic...
They are like a Salvador Dali or Picasso of music, like everytime you listen to them you hear beautiful melodies that you havn't heard before, like when you look at one of the artists paintings...... they are truly masters of their craft, just beautiful!
Cette video montre au monde qu'il est temps de changer notre comportement vis a vis de nos freres etres humains, d'arreter d'etre égoiste et de nous respecter!!! Avec les paroles de radio head, c'est sublime!!!
I see the stills (of the band members) as them--showing themselves--as identifying with the hardship of the people portrayed in the video. This is the least self-absorbed band I know folks. They give away their music. Listen to their inspiration.
@jibblychupos WRONG! Perhaps Muse ripped this song off of Radiohead...especially since both Amnesiac (the album that released "Like Spinning Plates") and The I Might Be Wrong Live Recordings (the album with this exact version of "Like Spinning Plates") were both released in 2001 and the album Absolution by Muse was released in 2003. Based off this, I would like to know where you got your information from...
@jibblychupos Shut up you're just being annoying. Thom Yorke had been around longer, Matthew Bellamy copies Thom. I would too, but I won't. I'm an original artist. You're a bitch trying to piss Radiohead fans off. Rest assued radio-heads xD (head humor) ignore the douche, he's just a gay bitch looking for attening cuz he can't get a bf.
I dont think this video sucks....if you are too dumb to notice the fact that its more about the feeling you get when you watch it then just the fuckin band that's on you. LOL.
@usernamesaregay222 Oh yes, I simply love Justin Bieber. Don't you? Look up in my favorites, it's plenty of his videos! Much better than this boring song, don't you think?
I did my own tribute to this exact version. I recorded keys, synth, strings, and vocals to my own video. what do you think? look up spinning plates mermaid. :)
I thought everyone was just being harsh till i watched it, now i agree. Love the song, video stinks. I like all the parts that are about the art, and hate the parts that promote the artist, coulda cut those out and made it more serious. Instead, it feels like a 3:48 long commercial.
I understand that if the poignancy of the video is to showcase world hunger and poverty, that it should be based solely on frames depicting the meaning of the lyrics. Nonetheless, I find this song a great one with our without the video.
The purpose of the live parts were to make a contrast of the art (that depicts some kind of resignation/acceptance of the world hunger and inequalities ) with the desperate hope ,reaction , non-resignation ,when Thom Yorke sings.
I agree on the stills tho, doesn't add much to the video and make it looks like a commercial.
@1madaboutguitar well, you're certainly welcome to your opinion. it's been 7 months since i wrote that and had forgotten what the video was like so i watched it again and had the same reaction. By the way, i'm a tad confused with your use of "surreptitious". Anyway, i never said that the stills were irrelevant, but that they made it less serious. BTW, WrapMee already responded to my comment, and even he agreed with me that those specific parts look like a commercial.
@masterassasn get over what? i wish youtube would change their forum setup, it's confusing as heck to figure out which comments people are responding to. Anyway, point is, i love the song, the video is a good effort, and i've moved on. Thanks for your interest.
Yeah, the chords are fairly straightforward, but the rythmn and sequence is a tad tricky. Bare in mind Thom wrote this around the same time he wrote "Pyramid Song", a song he said was an obsession with the black keys on a piano.
Like on this song...this glorious melody you hear here was taken from a live version debuted one night in Cleveland Ohio...but on the album version, it's hiding behind a jagged wall of cold, twisted production...they're like the Pixies...they actually leave a lot of the glory of their songs hiding in flecks and shadows in the recorded versions. Meanwhile, this otherwordly melody was hiding in plain sight the whole time. These guys are the least obvious band on earth.
@Mistwaters Wow it feels great to have someone share the same idea. This is true we can find a lot of this in their music. This could be why we can listen to their song again and again and getting different feelings.I believe its the same as life. We don't know what, why, who, when actually but we are riding the wave and this reflect in their songs. So thanks Radiohead for being a true artist.
Radiohead have to be the most tasteful band on earth.
Ya ever notice how nothing on their songs is overdone?
People wonder why I say Radiohead is infinitely more talented than Muse even though they use similar chords...well it's not only because Muse stole their sound from Radiohead's mid to late 90's sound.
It's more because Muse takes a nice melody and tries to wring every last ounce of attention to it that they can. Radiohead finds a melody twice as gorgeous, and UNDERstates it.
If I could give you a hundred thumbs up I would. You never want the song to end, because they tease you with so little. There's so much variance in greatness that you can't capture it all in one, two, or a hundred listens.
@Mistwaters I love Radiohead and they far exceed Muse, but I wouldn't say they "stole" their sound. They've marked Radiohead as an influence but I think they are quite original in most of their work. The parallels are evident here and there but I wouldn't so much as say they "stole" the Radiohead sound. Just my opinion
Been a long time since you wrote it, however i wouldn't say Muse stole off Radiohead. The Bends & the falsetto used on it has influenced ALOT of bands, its one of the biggest albums of the 90s that just went completely off course from what was being done at the time (others being Nirvana-Nevermind & RHCP-Blood Sugar)
Muse state radiohead as a big influence & you can hear that, similar with the queen influence. At least you can hear their influences in their music yet keep original
@Mistwaters And that's what makes Muse so powerful live. I love both bands and they're so similar genre and sound wise, but on complete opposite ends of the spectrum for performance. Radiohead just want to be your mates, whilst Muse go "LOOK AT US!!! WE ARE KINGS!!!" and that's why they rock so many peoples socks.
As for the "stole their sound" have you ever heard of the word inspiration? I agree Showbiz has the same tones as RHs work during that time, but listen to Origin of Symmetry please.
@Mistwaters I believe many prefer muse a lot moreas their more happy and energetic tones. I love both, I even prefer radiohead. But I am not going to say radiohead are better musicians because that's pretty much subjective :3
This is better than the album version. I don't know if i'll get a thumbs down for that comment. I love both versions but if this was on the album, it would be one of my favourite Radiohead songs.
Impresionante,me gusta la versión original, pero este live la supera con creces, además el video es muy bueno,el piano durante toda la canción es mágico, gracias Radiohead...
