woahw! bravo mick! phénoménal, tu resteras a jamais un des meilleurs!pour moi, tu nous manque ,que dis je sweet vous nous manquez. (brian, steve, mick, andy) for ever!
It's about frigging time somebody gives this man credit!!! He was the best... Oh bye the way I have loved Sweet since I was a little boy and I'm now 45 and still love it.
I Know nothing about drums technics but this solo is so creative,i would say original, diferent from the usual great drummers solos .Really Mick was one of a kind.To me he has a very peculiar and chalenging stile.Rip and thanks Mick.
I know nothing about drums, but grew up at a time (the '70s) when drum solos could be an obligatory and often unwelcome cliche (remember the drummers who used to rap steadily away from their sets, playing the rims, the stands, the bloody floor!), but this is sheer finesse -- reeling me in and letting me go: like an angler on the river Tweed in the springtime, after a winter of heavy snow. I could imagine him with a drum, leading a charge of berserk Highlanders.
Imagine being one of those screaming kids at this gig. You go along, expecting to hear Little Willy and Wig Wam Bam (and do), and you also get a show of musicianship like this (ditto Andy's guitar on Done Me Wrong All Right). No other band in the world could do it. just brilliant
I followed this band as a kid mostly because of Mick. I played drums for a local band and he was easily one of my favorite influences. He was a huge talent and a hell of a showman. It's a shame he was so under-rated.
dude hes like the pioneer of linear, double bass and metal drumming just listen to it who else did those techniques in the 70s. i cant think of anyone bar, keith moon but to be honest i mick would of given keith a hell of a good run for his money! RIP mick tucker! ( drummer of the first band i ever got into and im only 20!)
@jonokeay Well, in the 70's Tommy Aldridge, Billy Cobham and Simon Phillips were all renowned for their double bass drum playing - which was much more tasteful than the blast beating stuff we got nowadays. But Mick is great and very like Ian Paice in style. He's a sadly under rated drummer, but this audio redresses the balance a bit by showcasing a fantastic talent.
i wish this band had never been involved in the pop world and just gone full tilt heavy.i put them alongside all the killer seventies bands.four part vocal harmonies and great musicianship all around.brilliant band.
I would love to hear this in stereo. BTW, Mick blows John Bonham off the stool. Led Zeppelin has been so over-rated and over analyzed for too long. What a vocabulary Mick had. Awesome.
Simple one of the greatest most underrated drummer ever, never got anything like the credit he deserved, except from us in the know. Thank you Mick for all the great drumming and being an inspiration to many.
You may be gone but you will never be forgotten, talent like your does not come along very often.
This I first heard on the 'Strung Up' album and instantly fell in love with. This drum solo influences me straight to this day and that's 35 years later! OMG! :-)
i was amazed when sweet split in 82 mick tucker did'nt join a big name metal band such as judas priest ,he played the part, looked the part and seemed a really decent guy.R.I.P.mick!.
What I like about this (and the sweet in general) is that they'd do stuff like this. I don't know any other band in the glam category that would do 10 minute drum solos
Also remember there was no fast bass drum pedals like they make today. No wonder all those thrash drummers can go a million miles an hour the new pedals make it too easy. Back then you had The Ludwig speedking. And that was it. You had to work hard to play fast. Todays drummers are spoiled!
I remember the screens. He'd be live on stage with the kit and blow chops, then stop and righ on the next beat the first screen would take off and there he'd be on tympanis. He'd jam on those for a minute then stop and the third screen would kick in. Round and round he'd go. Faster and faster. Over all the best drum solo I've ever seen. EVER!!! R.I.P. Mick.
This guy was always under rated! I agree with several others below that it is about time for him to get his due. We've got you-tube to help with that. Myche, you didn't know TA was in Black Oak? He and Jim Dandy were BOA! As for Donnie Brewer and TA there are many examples where they touch this. I would put all of them in the same league, it's just that Mick Tucker, tragically, never gets mentioned. Thanks for sharing. Everytime I hear Sweet I think"If we don't F*** you then someone else will!
I was at the Santa Monica Civic in '76, twelth row, and he did this with the screens, I still think about it when I do a drum solo! I'm glad he's geting some recognition, it's about time!
Oh Yea! I forgot the screens. He would do one thing live, Then the right screen would come on and he would be on film doing something else. Then the left etc when at the end he would be jamming full out with the screens. Thank you i completely forgot this. His kit was bigger back then too. I guess I had in my mind the last couple if times i saw him in smaller clubs.Thank you.
Saw em' 7 times in the U.S . Mick's solo's were one of the highlights of the show. Only Don Brewer of Grand Funk and Tommy Aldridge of B,O, A. could match his veracity but no one could touch his technical skills and timing. I remember his huge bass drum and having only 1 tom tom and a floor tom.Huge sound for such a spare kit. Oh yeah, Don't forget the gong and timpani and tubular bells
Not just the drums, Mick Mars clearly "borrows"The opening chops from "Hellraiser after Stealing the intro from Montrose's Bad Motor Scooter a moment before in " Kick Start My Heart" .Yes The Sweet were one of a kind and a lot of bands covered and stole from them but hey ,That's rock n roll
Really, I started listening to Sweet hardcore maybe a year or so ago. They are my absolute favorite band and I wasn't even around until the early 90's. My first Sweet song was Ballroom Blitz. The amazing drumming is what pulled my attention. Then I expanded my love to alot more Sweet all because of his amazing talent. :) He is an extraordinary drummer. Very underrated. His eyes are very beautiful too lol. Just throwing that in there.
As a 14 yr old in the early 7o`s I always knew that Mick Tucker was the best drummer around. Others only saw the chinneychap stuff but I saw through that, and that goes for the rest of the band as well!!
Ass-kicking drummer who could actuually play a closed snare-roll, unlike many of the morons of the day. One of my faves then and now! Dynamic and creative. "Sweet FA" has one of the heaviest single-kick rythms ever. RIP dude.
Great to hear from someone who knows there stuff, i remember Gary Wallace telling me ballroom blits was easy and then playing it wrong, yeah mick was in the top 5 drummers in the world back then. thanks dude.
I have had the live version of this album for over 30 years and I know that Mick Tucker is the only drummer on this recording. Listen to any Sweet album and you'll know that he is more that capable of playing a solo of this quality!
NO NO NO , The sound you hear is of mick dueling with himself, on film it was the highlite of his solo the duel was carried out on huge screens around the drum kit. so its mick playing with MICK. awsome in its day, robbed by motley i believe,
Mick is one of the all time greats I just love this guy. His drum parts are some of the most creative I have ever heard. If you want to see another great, check out the mule by ian paice from deep purple. These two guys are two of the all time greats and sadly most people will never hear them.
I am a huge LED ZEP fan, am now a huge SWEET fan. Mick tucker is fantastic on drums, wish i had realised how good they were back in the 70's. Making up for lost time now. It's sweet mania in our house now, children included!!
Good call on that one......my kids are all into Sweet now.....It's easy to get them hooked on the early pop hits...and then gradually introduce them to the later rockers....Amazing how Sweet are so over-looked in America....sad,,,
