The Burgman 650's step-through design, and automatic (actually auto-semi/auto) transmission mean it IS a scooter even though it's engine size and power are unlike anything seen before in a scooter. I own one so I should know.
Scooters ARE, and always will be, automatic motorcycles! Do we call automatic cars "automatars" or "Car-o-matics", No! The name scooter doesn't even properly describe the 650 Burgman, Tmax 500, or Gilera gp800 because the engine is not mounted on the swingarm as is the case with smaller displacement scooters. My point is that riding a motorcycle (automatic or not) should be fun for what it is, not for the style of the transmission.
hello there moto or scooter doesnt matter go test drive a t max 500 or a gp 800 and then come back tell us its not a motorcyle do u know about the dn01 of honda 800cc and plenty of power t max isnt a scooter it is a motorcycle that can leave in the dust bunch of bikes especially the gp 800 fastest one out there it rides and handle exactly like a bike those 2 t max and gp are great
I've over 40 years of riding. Got a Yamaha 650 Maxim and a GoldWing SE in the garage. I just added a 650 Executive to it. If it isn't a motorcycle, then a step through "bicycle" isn't a bicycle. Call it a scooter if it makes you or anyone for that matter, happy. I'm thrilled with mine!
The point is that it''s just as technically incorrect to call it a scooter as it is to call it a motorcycle. That's why people are asking seemingly silly questions about the capabilities of a 650cc bike. The term "scooter" implies low power and sub-highway speeds. Maxi-Scooter is a completely different category. The guy is using the term motorcycle because he's discussing it's capabilities, not design layout.
@retrodog63 . The term "Maxi-Scooter," "Maxi" is just an add-on prefix to the word scooter, just as "Super" is in "Superbike". But the Superbike remains a bike and it is technically correct to refer to it as a bike, or even a motorcycle. A Maxi-Scooter is still a scooter just like a Superbike is still a bike, but a scooter, Maxi or otherwise is never a motorcycle. That is my point. Has been from the beginning...
The guy in the video called a Scooter a Motorcycle.
@zigzagg321321 The term "scooter" isn't accurate enough either. It's either a "motor scooter" or "maxi-scooter". The irony is that your arguing against these more specific terms but at the same time, arguing to specify that it's a scooter, which as a motor-scooter is a sub-category of motorcycles. So you're essentially calling someone wrong for referring to a square as a rectangle. You are just plain wrong. And inconsistent.
@retrodog63 hogwash semantics. Is that Burgman a motorcycle? No. That was, is and shall remain to be my point. The guy called it a motorcycle, its not a motorcycle. Scooter, Maxi...w/e you want to say...that Burgman is still not a motorcycle. That again, was, is and shall remain to be my only point.
I´ve had a Susuki Burgman 125 since 2004, I also drive a Ktm 690 SM but the burgman is just awesome for the 2 clicks to my office, to be honest...I bought it for the phone charger...;( but I use it as a cigarette lighter :)
I've been riding a 650 Burgman since 2005 and I can't be more impressed. I've ridden just about everything in my 48 years of riding. I bought a burgman because of the automatic transmission. I now have a bad leg and can't handle a heavy, manually shifting motorcycle. My Burgman can outrun everything but sportbikes and on the road it's a beautiful, comfortable ride at speeds as high as 100 mph.
Just traded my Honda Shadow 2007 in on my new toy I call it my Transformer 2008 Burgman 650 Exe.LOVE IT. Would like to start a Burgman Club in Asheville, NC john

Who gives a shit if it's a Motorcycle or a Scooter?
Seriously! Why do you people always have to argue about shit that don't even matter??
Get a freaking bike, go ride.

Easy as pie. I ride a Yamaha Majesty. Before that I rode a Burgman 400. I know quite a few Burgman 650 riders. They have no problems.
