You need to send a message to the litter. As soon as they start to have human interaction, pick the weakest one and kill it in front of the others as a lesson. It's what I would do. It will keep the puppies and the dam in check. Just make sure the dam is tied up or in a crate or you'll end having to hit her off of you as you're beating the puppy to death.
You also don't want the others to become hand shy, so only hit them with a broom stick.

People crop their ears to stop infection. Dobermans are prone to ear infections and the best way to lessen the risk or even prevent it is to crop their ears.

We left the ears alone on our 5 year-old and she always looks a cute puppy now. However, their ears get kind of big and if you don't crop them, they do have trouble keeping them upright unlike other dogs (Doberman ears are too thin in musculature to stand on their own).

Herr Dobermann bred the dobie from german pinscher, rottweiler, german shepherd & others as you may know for a specific purpose - to be his guard/work dog to accompany him when he went to collect taxes. I'm sure that must have been a tough job back then - collecting taxes.
He also realized that the long ears & tail were prone to being bitten and torn when the dobie fought with other dogs. dobies are born with naturally floppy ears. Some owners choose to surgically crop the ears. In some countries like England and Australia it is illegal to crop both the ears and tails. Since my dobe is mainly a family pet, we chose to leave her ears au natural. She is every bit the dobe and just as beautiful!

Just quietly, I think we owe it to the man who first bred them in 1890 ( Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann ) Cropped ears and Docked tails is breed specific. This is what he wanted. I own a doberman my self and in my opinion there are dobermans and the rest are just other dogs. If this was really cruelty to animals it wouldn't end with only dogs.

I'm afraid you are. In Wikipedia, under the article "Docking (dog)", you can find listed some countries with their legal status in regard to docking (ears and tails); only a very short list, but it already shows that there is a significant number of countries where Dobermanns, and any other dogs born with tails and floppy ears, invariably have tails and floppy ears. I wish especially Americans understood this and didn't consider un-docked dogs a mere curiosity.
I'm not only talking about what I've read on Wikipedia; I'm talking about the dogs I see around me. The reference is there to show I am not making things up. It also is, as I point out, only a very small overview of the legal status of docking in a part of the countries in the world; however, even that short list works to illustrate my point, that non-docking is not a "curiosity" but perfectly normal in many countries.
Now a guard dog...needs to be cropped/docked for its own protection and benefit of course, as ya'll stated. There is a method to the madness for all the bashers out there.

However I dont know if I would crop/dock if I had one. I wouldnt get the dog for protection...that would come as a "bonus". A dobie loses its dobie look without the ears cropped and tail docked . The ear crop came about because dobie ears are long and prone to being bitten. Without the crop, dobies lose a little of their noble look.

I wish they outlawed all tail and ear crops they are beautiful without chopping them up. I miss my Tuvok whom I bought at this age. Love you big guy passed away November 2007.. Gone never forgotten.

this is my oppinion about croping and docking(btw my weimaraners tail was docked when i got him) i think we should leave dogs creation alone. i mean i dont think its cruel to dock or crop but we should leave them to the way they are btw im not saying ur bad if u do either this is my oppinion

People crop their ears to stop infection. Dobermans are prone to ear infections and the best way to lessen the risk or even prevent it is to crop their ears.

We left the ears alone on our 5 year-old and she always looks a cute puppy now. However, their ears get kind of big and if you don't crop them, they do have trouble keeping them upright unlike other dogs (Doberman ears are too thin in musculature to stand on their own).
Dobermans are really the cutest and classiest/sportiest (both!) looking dogs. Damn intelligent too.

I'll just say one thing, without taking sides in the cruelty question. Cropping dogs' ears is ONLY done in some countries. In, for example, most European countries it is illegal. I just wish people understood that there currently exist two different images of the Dobermann; the image with cropped ears and tails is NOT universal. In lots and lots of countries it simply doesn't occur.

I have a blue coat teufelhund (Maximillian Otto von Maximus "Max") - 4yr old male who needs a dobie bitch. As far as I know, he will do the doggie on a bitch that's cropped or not. As the master, I prefer a natural bitch - ears not cropped. Any interested party in Britain? I am in Cali USA.

hitler had nothing to do with dobies, so don't go off the tangent (women!). Herr Dobermann bred the dobie from german pinscher, rottweiler, german shepherd & others as you may know for a specific purpose - to be his guard/work dog to accompany him when he went to collect taxes. I'm sure that must have been a tough job back then - collecting taxes.

He also realized that the long ears & tail were prone to being bitten and torn when the dobie fought with other dogs. So I suppose you can consider what he did as not only functional but humane since he loved the dog that he bred. He did it out of love sarajames. The purpose of the dobie as loyal pet/guard/work dog continues to this day & the cropped ear/docked tail is part of the dobie's & Herr Dobermann's legacy.

Of course women would argue that those holes serve a purpose or function - earrings - beauty - vanity to attract the male. Some would further that argument to breast enhancement? You are human, dobies are dogs, therein lies the big difference which you and others fail to understand. We domesticated wolves somehow over history, ergo modern day dogs. We bred them for specific purposes initially - sheperding sheeps, hunting, guarding & protection & other work. Later, they developed primarily as the pets we come to love. Still, they are dogs, they are pets.

1) it's inhumane for the dog to inflict injury to human 2) the civilized thing is for the dog to sit & wait until the burglar is hurt by a self-inflicted injury & 3) although the history is that the dog was trained to be a guard dog, history doesn't make it right? what you bloody crying liberals should protest are the fact that some humans treat their dogs/pets better than other human beings. When the vet stuck a thermometer up my dobie's ass, I could see the pain in his eyes, I think he actually cried as his eyes got wet. Was that inhumane? I'm sure you'll agree that no, it was a temporary but necessary pain the dog had to endure for the good of his health & well being. I argue that such is the case with cropped ear/docked tail.

They are first floppy. They stand up when they trim the ears and tie it up with a bandage. Then it stays like that the rest of its life. The tails get docked too.

I respect the opinions of those who prefer to retain the dobie's natural ears and tail, but don't impose such opinion on those of us who prefer to have them cropped. dobies are born with naturally floppy ears. Some owners choose to surgically crop the ears. In some countries like England and Australia it is illegal to crop both the ears and tails. Since my dobe is mainly a family pet, we chose to leave her ears au natural. She is every bit the dobe and just as beautiful!

Just quietly, I think we owe it to the man who first bred them in 1890 ( Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann ) Cropped ears and Docked tails is breed specific. This is what he wanted. I own a doberman my self and in my opinion there are dobermans and the rest are just other dogs. If this was really cruelty to animals it wouldn't end with only dogs.

Times change, Louis Doberman had an agenda. And while his breeding has left us with an astonishing animal, the crop/dock is archaic. I'm afraid you are. In Wikipedia, under the article "Docking (dog)", you can find listed some countries with their legal status in regard to docking (ears and tails); only a very short list, but it already shows that there is a significant number of countries where Dobermanns, and any other dogs born with tails and floppy ears, invariably have tails and floppy ears. I wish especially Americans understood this and didn't consider un-docked dogs a mere curiosity.

It also is, as I point out, only a very small overview of the legal status of docking in a part of the countries in the world; however, even that short list works to illustrate my point, that non-docking is not a "curiosity" but perfectly normal in many countries.

ya very tru. It all depends on your needs really. Whether you need a protection dog, show dog, or police/military dog(back in the day). I love the way the "classic" dobe looks, bad ass. However I dont know if I would crop/dock if I had one. I wouldnt get the dog for protection...that would come as a "bonus". Plus for the regular family pet, it would be just be cosmetic, and why put em through the hassel/pain.

A dobie loses its dobie look without the ears cropped and tail docked . The ear crop came about because dobie ears are long and prone to being bitten. Without the crop, dobies lose a little of their noble look.
