  • Bobby you changed my life. Thank you!

  • what's the program you are using?

  • Wow, you are such a smart guy. I love these videos.

  • I love your attitude man. I have seen many motivation speech and so on but this one was 100% from your heart and I really took in every word you said. Thanks alot for the video! And ones again I love you man! / Rickard

  • how long til you get carpal tunnel syndrome? the action on the mouse made my wrists and palms hurt just watching it.

love your videos, loved your set-ups at comic conventions. you could even just read any story while doing these videos and i'd watch them.

  • This is a great podcast! Nice artwork too. Your words are very empowering and a reminder of what I need to do. I've wasted so much time and skills. It's time to make it happen. Thank you my friend!

  • This is exactly what I needed to hear!

  • wow. im like listening to the radio.

  • Probably the most moving video I have seen on youtube. Thanks for some much needed reminders.

  • it took u 90 min .. i wont finish this in 90 days ..ur an amazing human being trust me .. but got a simple question ..what is the input device ur using exactly ..?thx

  • thank you, this really helped me, i used to never finish my drawings

  • After hearing this, I have second thoughts about my future prospects... I'm studying to be a games concept artist/modeler, but to be honest, I worry about not enjoying art... I like to believe I'll still have time and motivation to do my own art. But recently I've found doing 'bad art' really drains me...

  • Wow, this was made from something made up from this guys mind? o_o

  • Like doing a logo thats too cleaned up! I did that the other day and I just didn't like the clean up! I liked my sketchy coffee beans at the bottom of my logo better!!

  • 27:55 I swear I thought you said "I quit drinking pot." I was like wow! O_o! Hahaha!

    Great video! Excellent work! Thanks!

  • Fantastic video. Love your comments during the video also. I once decided to go a year without watching TV. I read lots of books and got tons of things done I never would have otherwise.

  • This video.... thankyou.

  • you are a cool guy, thanks for the motivation!

  • Perfect, seriously. This is what I was looking for. Yes totally agree, I wonder why my parents always say, go out for it, don't wait for it. Totally right. I am behind with my college work and yes I was waiting for pressure to do it, but really thats no passion. But seriously your words gave me the sense of focus and power, brilliant sir.! Thank you so much! Totally consciousness aware! Awesome picture, learnt a lot lol from that also and subscribe indeed ^^ I feel a good change thanks!

  • Very inpirational, I like your point of view

  • Thanks for stating that about a bad art job is worse than a cool non art job. I work as a barista and I totally milk that job for all my social needs. I flirt, I crack jokes, I pick up pretty ladies that come in. And then I go home and make awesome digital art!

  • you are amazing !! knew you by Melies blog

  • wow you have amaazing speach skills it really dase make me feel inspired

  • You are my fucking hero

  • For people wondering which program he uses, it looks like Alias (Autodesk) Sketchbook Pro.

  • wow half an hour and i think this is sped up right!?

    SUCH PATIENTS!! lol

  • Thank you! Great podcast :)

  • is venom-alf!!!!!

  • Sir you are amazing. You've helped me digivolge to the next level

  • wow...just wow...

  • damn, thats true about jobs man!

  • Could someone please tell me which video bobby talks about getting work and uses the analogy of bait & fish?

  • thank you so much

  • some sage advice, cant agree with you more

  • You taught us how to create an image but you also taught us about self discipline!Loved listening to you while you were creating the image.. So inspiring! I don't think the things you gave up were pointless, but I understand that the reason you gave it up was just for the sake of giving them up to test yourself- not for health reasons. BUT I BET YOU DID FEEL BETTER AND HAD MORE MENTAL CLARITY FROM WHAT YOU DID GIVE UP. :-)

  • Okay I am going to weigh this picture up my Toby Creature.

  • I have never heard so many worthy words at once before. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but your words of wisdom are equal to your art

    Thank you

  • Schoolism, is a major ripoff. I took a class, and it was way to much money, for what I got. You don't even get to keep the videos. It really sucks. They only let you watch the videos for a couple of weeks too. Also just on a side note, I met Booby Chui, and he is a total jerk unless he wants something from you (like your money).

  • Im not seeing it anywhere, what software is that? Doesn't look like Photoshop. The brushes look great... would likr to see some technical details about them.

  • @sprattoo It's Autodesk SketchBook Pro.

  • woah, i live in nc

  • You are an inspiration for sure.

  • Hey Bobby, I just want to thank you for your video. It is very motivating and inspiring! Please keep up!

  • One part of Bobby's speech that really resonated with me was doing something just to prove to yourself that you have the inner resources to do it. For me, it was getting in shape and staying fit ever since. Not directly related to art, but every time I hit a wall in other areas of life, I think back to how I set a difficult goal and succeeded in spite of previous failures and people who doubted me. From that point on, I saw myself as someone who could start and finish great things.

  • @Taffin that's awesome. i'm doing that with the marathon i'm running on sunday. part of the reason i'm completing it is so that i'll always have it to look back on and remind myself that i had it deep down inside me to accomplish something so big.

  • Wow, kudos to you!

Totally right man! It feels like I'm the only one who feels insufficient.. I'm currently a student studying Art and 2 other subjects at college. I feel that doing Art for a college subject.. has made me hate art! which is not good! I used to love art and I had so many amazing ideas which just made me stop what I was doing and imagine the possibilities. Everything seems dull now, my imagination seems to have been shot down by college..

You helped quite a lot, cheers ^^

  • I somehow Like these PodCasts much more than the New ChiuStream ones. THis actually has so much more information, inspiration e.t.c Seems more down to earth ^__^

  • I think its kinda creepy how the very beginning of what you were saying about not doing a art job you don't like cause its just gonna hurt your personal art. That's totally how I feel about my job right now.

  • I dont unterstand much english.. but man... I totaly enjoyed listening you. I Love draw, but somethimes.. I think i not able to do that.

    But i'll keep trying

  • dude i feel the same art jobs suck! i hate it that why im gonna go into engineering so when i come home i can just draw to relax

  • hehehe, pot-cast....

  • ah man your speaking to me bro.

I worked at playhut for about a year nothing was worth putting in my port folio i quit that job i worked in a warehouse and filled two sketchbooks.

thank you bro i thought i was the only way

  • So that's what a crack addicted barney would look like. :)

Great job Bobby, I watched it all they way through because of the great motivational speech you gave.

    Another one for my favourites.

  • "if I was a hot girl, I'd offer him my womb" friend said that , i think he is i love with you Bobby.

  • what a creepy ting to say

  • Lol wasnt into the painting but you have good things to share.

  • If I lived close to your subway, I defenitly would go every sunday :P

  • I have digital painting lessons on my account. They are in real time.

Sped up video can be fun to watch, but it is not very useful for beginners.

  • These aren't really lessons though. The main aim of this casts is to motivate and teach about being an artist as opposed to how to draw or paint.

  • came back this is 5 times

  • yes..Corel painter X

  • hey im using photo shop cs4 to paint but im wondering if there is any other programe that might be better.

  • Been uninspired for years now ,but purchaced a tablet recently and after this guys pepp talk im pumped.....just need to learn how to use the software first lolz...

  • Wow, I'm speechless.

  • Sketchbook pro huh? X)

    Nice art!

  • really inspiring

    You're too awesome!!

    thx for making this vid

  • Awesome demo, and awesome wisdom! Thanks so much for sharing you skills and insights :-)

  • thank you, I actually have a crappy art job that un-motivates me

  • you are an awesome philosopher

  • this guy is really smart... not only does he give some tips for art but he also gives some tips for life as well as involving the watcher in a conversation... Seems like a really nice guy... Bravo! 5 stars! :D

  • Wow, this is one of the first videocasts on youtube I've listened all the way through! I've picked up a philosophy as well as unintentional art tips!

  • i like you talking when drawing, kind of philosophy, noone has done this yet. :)

  • how loong do you do this?

  • Dude... You're so awesome

    d O_O b two thumbs up

  • This guy is a good man. Subscribe!

  • I heard Picasso said "painting is like praying", that's true at least for me.

  • watch 20 times when feeling down ,its good messege.

  • wow that creatures mouth is amazing! :D

  • yes..i thouhgt same thing.. how to paint all life without worrying about morgages.

    a) Become nun and paint religious theme all life.

    b) Janitor in quebec, receiving gov check

    c) get prastic surgery and marry to retired rich old man who supports painting job.

d)get prastic surgery and become a contessa.

    e) be in jail....

  • I dunno why these people can talk and paint all together... T T they must have super brain directly connects occipital and frontal side of brain.

  • or editing software...

  • watch 100 times....

  • do you draw from a sketch or is this just out of your head?

  • What program is that?

    Good art btw.

  • amazing art, by the way

  • the point you made aroung 24 minutes applies to religion, too. if you have faith in your religion or your beliefs or whatever, then those beliefs will benefit you in many ways. just thought i'd throw that in there

  • true, what he saying is written in bible..to practice constantly is lots work..

  • you are amazing

  • thanx for your advise!

  • Nice dogg-ragon! I´ll look for one at the pet shop!

    Solid work!

  • Your giving out to much info, but niced job

  • freedom is essential for enjoying life. i so agree. thats why i love art.

  • Ty for this podcast! Every time i listen to it i feel like i can do anything and my life's goals become so clear. The first time i listened to this i started writing down a list of things i wanted to do and finish within one month. I've almost finished it. I find my self so motivated after listening to this i start to go on a writing or drawing spree. I think this podcast is the best advice that any one could have said because it's something that i think i may have really needed to hear.

  • That's so true, so true!! I come back here twice weekly.

  • You have some great advice, dude!

  • God you are good man thanks for the video

  • that was reely motivating to listen to. cool painting also. Have you heard of Williams Shamir?

i think you will enjoy his videos. from one artist to another :]

  • Always enjoy painting while listening to your podcasts. Thanks for posting these man.

  • I think I'm going to listen to this video over and over again to gain more strength and self motivation towards truly working on my movie at home. Usually I can not concentrate on it while at home, only at school or in professional outside environments, but this time I have to commit myself to it, flush out all over outside ideas or anything like that and just do it. :) I almost cried at the end :) THX!

  • your so laid back lol. your drawings arent the same xD they are like BOO!

  • Thank you Bobby! You are so inspiring! I graduated as computer engineer but my true calling is as an artist. I worked hard in the past 3 years and come home too exhausted to draw most of time (not to mention I bring work home too). Now I lost my job, I am drawing all day long while listening to your podcast. I am a bit addicted now I don't want to go find dayjob!

  • Ha, I'm in Charlotte as well. I love your work man, you're awesome.

  • I agree, i find that working as a drone yet still have the time to do art while working, thats when i seem to get more motivation. I guess it takes my mind off of the day in day out repetitiveness of a job lol I also find that drawing with others gets me motivated. I tend to feed off of others and get ideas for whatever rather than be by myself. You know? Great job and i love your work. Peace out...

  • Appreciate you sharing your thoughts about art and the creative process. To often I've found that professors don't speak about motivation or the drive to create art. Love that you share personal stories as well. Inspirational my friend. Keep up the good work.

  • what you said in the video was really moving, you should watch the movie 'wall street', old but it will interest you bec it's about hapiness, reaching goals in life, working with stress.

Thank you, for this video, you just earned 5/5 :)

  • wooow dude you`re really good 999999999999* :)

  • What kind of brushes are you using....better yet what program are you using????????????????? ;)

  • autodesk sketchbook pro

  • this is so true when i feel like i have to draw something good then i am much worse.

  • IBM rockz !!!! love my tablet pc too...great job

  • amazing job and thanks for this, I really needed it

  • seriously guys, stop askign about brushes and programs, it doesnt make a difference, they are just tools, if you lack the experience and practice, you will fail in every software. Find a software you feel comfortable with and stick with it.

  • youuu sir, are 100% correct :D

  • @whitec100

    this Photoshop?

  • @SspnddAccnt

    no its ms paint

  • @whitec100

    yikes!!

  • @whitec100 whats wrong with learning how others use their tools?

  • man i love ur work and ur words!!! is there anyway i can get ur videos or at least just the audio on my ipod so i can watch or just listen to u talk while im on the T

  • what program are u using ?

  • prolly alias sketchbook pro

  • Thanks for your good thoughts, its relly great stuff - both 2d and mentally ;) just relly interesting - to hear your thoughts - relly rare to find someone that can go deep in the thoughts around this "artistic life" and explane it, I think - thank you

  • i will quit breathing for a month, thank you, you have opened my inner being with your words of wisdom? anyways, awesome drawing, if only i could paint my huge creature called The Gastyphon

  • Also what kind of brushes are being used? Mainly just soft ones?

  • What program is this?

  • i think he is using photoshop

  • he's using alias sketchbook .

  • Absolutly amazing podcast!

You are a really talented artist and also a(even more) talented motivation trainer.

You really make me think about art, future and goals in life.

Thanks a lot for some absolutly entertaining 30min of art and philosophy.

    Thank You!

  • Mr. Chiu, this video has changed my life. I need to stop fretting about my mom with her cancer and think about my future like she has been saying. For now on I'll try even harder with my art and will not wait for things but go out and make things happen. Thank you Mr.Chiu!

    -Momoki

  • Thank you thank you thank you! Wonderful discussion. I needed to hear this. I have been waiting.. for what? I need to stop getting in my own way and holding myself back. Thank you. Beautiful work too!

  • very nice video... all your videos area very wise and full with amazing life and artist tips...

so thanks so much on that! great video!

  • Hi Bobby, Im fan of your works,I believe the art from self-motivation and freedom is a open door to our minds!

  • Cheers so much for your self-motivation Video! I am currently a Analyst Programmer but my passion has always been in digital art / graphic design. I have always had the misconception that it wasn't possible or realistic to make a living doing this sort of stuff. Your video has inspired me to get off my arse get back into it. Thx Buddy :)

  • I've had many crappy jobs at design agencies where I would have to create very sucky artwork. I think that these agencies don't really care about you as an artist, they just care about the money. This actually, I believe, is a harm to you as an artist because it doesn't let you evolve. And it's true, back at home after work I would have no motivation to work on my own stuff. That really sucks.

  • Man you rock, im currently studying graphic design. I consider myself quite a stong conceptual artist but I have a lot of selt doubt because I feel I should be stonger a comic artistry and digital painting. Your words, just by nature of your hilarious rambling and your own self belief has helped me see that I need to commit and master these skills instead of shying away from bench marking myself against the instant impossible. Thank you :)

  • Often when I do art, or always, I always hafta prove to someone else than myself that I'm good, otherwise it just feels more or less like a waste of time to me.

  • i know what you mean..but art is not just enjoying your viewer is also personal development of your skill..so you're never wasting time. I think its also a bad thing to stay too attached to your art..dont make a "piece" every time, sometimes sketch or paint for the sake of it..just to get better and improve your shading, design or whatever.its those little exercizes that'll make a big difference next time you'll do a finished work!

  • when I'm at school, I always sketch and stuff, if u'd take a look in any random page in my books u'd see that half of it is full of monsters and abstract stuff and shit :P I'm kinda lazy when it comes to pieces though, but when I succeed I'm still proud even if noone sees it. "Waste of time" was maybe a bit rough, but I think what he's talking about is pretty obvious.

  • lol u sound like taa

  • I think you should start every one wit the words

"Hi and welcome! thank you for chiu-ning in."

    Cheers man.

  • man we miss you

  • I dont think i need to say how good the painting is! but waht i wud say is that your talk was really inspirational!!

This is your first video that i am watching and i absolutely love it!! an now am gonna watch all ovem!! Thanx!

  • Wow! very very nice work Bobby and great inspirational talk too, wow! and thanks!

  • I was impressed by your picture, but watching you paint it is what really inspired me. Thanks for the upload.

  • cool!

  • what do you record your paintings in?

  • that was really motivating xD thanks! :3

    awesome painting btw!! ^^

  • thats funny because when i was pushing myself months ago I had a heart murmur haha. Also, I just finally moved to a beautiful state and accomplished my goals... Yet my drawings are lacking more rather than being without a job and not being able to live right. Glad this is all universal. Time to brainwash myself

  • This is excellent. Well done.

  • u r very inspiring

  • what program is that, well anyways, nice words man, you seem like a great guy! <3

    keep it up

    peace :D

  • it looks like Alias Sketchbook Pro o.o

  • i got the picture bobby

"WITH GREAT RESPONIBILITIES, THERE HAS TO BE GREAT POWER, EFFORT, AND SELF RECOGNITION"

  • i'm out here bobby :)

  • awesome work! and thanks for the motivation, it's really helped ^^

  • great words...I am currently dong an animated short and I am kinda in a crunch.. these word help me alot.. thanks

    bob:)

  • you sound like conor oberst :)

  • What brushes do you use man? Any chance you could upload them?

  • Great points there. Really inspirational. And amazing painting. Thanks for this

  • Thankyou!! That was so incredibly motivating! I have an art show coming up and Ive been putting off working on it because its summer, now I'm hard at work. This really helped.

  • its was great.iv already seen/heard it 3-4 times now..i hav no opptunity coming a i hav been so confused on what to do but i think i'l find a direction now.all i gotta do is b more decisive and stick on something i decide to do.i don lik my 3d day job but i think it'l b sad if i had to draw somethin whole day which i didnt wanted to. thanks for making me realise that :D

  • Yes u can have a day job and just do art for u. I enjoy my day job. I would hate 2b a prof.artist doing projects that don't appeal to me. I want 2feed my own soul w/o pressure 2 meet someone else's needs. I do need 2 get a laptop though, to squeeze in some drawing during free time at work. It's hard to find time on the family PC, with all the pressures & joys of family life. Any any suggestions for worthy syst specs for wrkng in PS and painter wud be appreciated. Bobby I love your work man!

  • This was a lovely thing to watch and I'm so glad my friend linked me to it. She tried to talk to me during it but I was far too busy being enlightened and encouraged. This is a huge booster to bring me closer to hopes and dreams and all sorts of other things that will be coming to me in the future.

Thank you for sharing all your inspiring words with us, the masses. It's really something that we, as both artists and people, don't hear often enough.

There is no Do or Die, only do!

  • dang! Now THAT'S some scary pet!

    Good motivational, and thanx!

  • that was really inspirationsl...I now have at least 2 things that I'm actually going to do (I've been contemplating them for a while) just because. Why the hell not. Thankyou n_n

  • awesome

its cool to see how you go about creating a picture like this :)

  • amazing how you pull that off with not even a sketch.

  • nice to hear you again dude

  • I really love your art!

  • How you get 34 minutes of video recorder if I only can upload less of 10 minute or less 100Mb?

  • the whole part about losing motivation because of doing bad art at work... geez man you really hit the nail on the head. when i get home I don't even want to see a tablet pen. :(

  • I've watched every video you've put out on here, and they only get better. You could almost be a motivational speaker for a career, but of course that wouldn't be near as good as art.

  • great work! You are a big inspiration to my artwork. I am MOTIVATED!!!

  • Just thank you Bobby!

Talking about the mental attitude everyone should have for all situations in life is such a great thing. It's so simple, but people often forget about going back to this type of knowledge. That's why these podcasts are a true inspiration.

I'm looking foward to see more of your videos and of course more of your stunning art.

    Best regards from germany!

  • amazing

  • "some of the most valuable things are intangible" I couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes I just sit there doing "nothing" but working through my brain and it's very annoying when, say, my parents think I should go out and "do" something. Ugh. But I know what I need to do to keep myself motivated, whether it's just a mental thing or going out and doing. You are a great speaker, thanks for sharing this.

  • Hey Bobby. Love the podcast as usual. Man, we all need to bring walki talkis on the subway with us, so you can whisper positive stuff while we subway sketch, haha.

  • Back to the inspirational videos, this is a good one!

  • sketchbook pro

  • is it a free program, or did you have to pay for it?

  • This was a very enjoyable video, for both the artwork and the motivational lesson.
