I love your attitude man. I have seen many motivation speech and so on but this one was 100% from your heart and I really took in every word you said. Thanks alot for the video! And ones again I love you man! / Rickard
This is a great podcast! Nice artwork too. Your words are very empowering and a reminder of what I need to do. I've wasted so much time and skills. It's time to make it happen. Thank you my friend!
it took u 90 min .. i wont finish this in 90 days ..ur an amazing human being trust me .. but got a simple question ..what is the input device ur using exactly ..?thx
After hearing this, I have second thoughts about my future prospects... I'm studying to be a games concept artist/modeler, but to be honest, I worry about not enjoying art... I like to believe I'll still have time and motivation to do my own art. But recently I've found doing 'bad art' really drains me...
Like doing a logo thats too cleaned up! I did that the other day and I just didn't like the clean up! I liked my sketchy coffee beans at the bottom of my logo better!!
Fantastic video. Love your comments during the video also. I once decided to go a year without watching TV. I read lots of books and got tons of things done I never would have otherwise.
Perfect, seriously. This is what I was looking for. Yes totally agree, I wonder why my parents always say, go out for it, don't wait for it. Totally right. I am behind with my college work and yes I was waiting for pressure to do it, but really thats no passion. But seriously your words gave me the sense of focus and power, brilliant sir.! Thank you so much! Totally consciousness aware! Awesome picture, learnt a lot lol from that also and subscribe indeed ^^ I feel a good change thanks!
Thanks for stating that about a bad art job is worse than a cool non art job. I work as a barista and I totally milk that job for all my social needs. I flirt, I crack jokes, I pick up pretty ladies that come in. And then I go home and make awesome digital art!
You taught us how to create an image but you also taught us about self discipline!Loved listening to you while you were creating the image.. So inspiring! I don't think the things you gave up were pointless, but I understand that the reason you gave it up was just for the sake of giving them up to test yourself- not for health reasons. BUT I BET YOU DID FEEL BETTER AND HAD MORE MENTAL CLARITY FROM WHAT YOU DID GIVE UP. :-)
Schoolism, is a major ripoff. I took a class, and it was way to much money, for what I got. You don't even get to keep the videos. It really sucks. They only let you watch the videos for a couple of weeks too. Also just on a side note, I met Booby Chui, and he is a total jerk unless he wants something from you (like your money).

Thank you Bobby! You are so inspiring! I graduated as computer engineer but my true calling is as an artist. I worked hard in the past 3 years and come home too exhausted to draw most of time (not to mention I bring work home too). Now I lost my job, I am drawing all day long while listening to your podcast. I am a bit addicted now I don't want to go find dayjob!
I agree, i find that working as a drone yet still have the time to do art while working, thats when i seem to get more motivation. I guess it takes my mind off of the day in day out repetitiveness of a job lol I also find that drawing with others gets me motivated. I tend to feed off of others and get ideas for whatever rather than be by myself. You know? Great job and i love your work. Peace out...
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts about art and the creative process. To often I've found that professors don't speak about motivation or the drive to create art. Love that you share personal stories as well. Inspirational my friend. Keep up the good work.
what you said in the video was really moving, you should watch the movie 'wall street', old but it will interest you bec it's about hapiness, reaching goals in life, working with stress.

Thanks for your good thoughts, its relly great stuff - both 2d and mentally ;) just relly interesting - to hear your thoughts - relly rare to find someone that can go deep in the thoughts around this "artistic life" and explane it, I think - thank you
i will quit breathing for a month, thank you, you have opened my inner being with your words of wisdom? anyways, awesome drawing, if only i could paint my huge creature called The Gastyphon
Mr. Chiu, this video has changed my life. I need to stop fretting about my mom with her cancer and think about my future like she has been saying. For now on I'll try even harder with my art and will not wait for things but go out and make things happen. Thank you Mr.Chiu!
Thank you thank you thank you! Wonderful discussion. I needed to hear this. I have been waiting.. for what? I need to stop getting in my own way and holding myself back. Thank you. Beautiful work too!
Cheers so much for your self-motivation Video! I am currently a Analyst Programmer but my passion has always been in digital art / graphic design. I have always had the misconception that it wasn't possible or realistic to make a living doing this sort of stuff. Your video has inspired me to get off my arse get back into it. Thx Buddy :)
I've had many crappy jobs at design agencies where I would have to create very sucky artwork. I think that these agencies don't really care about you as an artist, they just care about the money. This actually, I believe, is a harm to you as an artist because it doesn't let you evolve. And it's true, back at home after work I would have no motivation to work on my own stuff. That really sucks.
Man you rock, im currently studying graphic design. I consider myself quite a stong conceptual artist but I have a lot of selt doubt because I feel I should be stonger a comic artistry and digital painting. Your words, just by nature of your hilarious rambling and your own self belief has helped me see that I need to commit and master these skills instead of shying away from bench marking myself against the instant impossible. Thank you :)
Often when I do art, or always, I always hafta prove to someone else than myself that I'm good, otherwise it just feels more or less like a waste of time to me.
i know what you mean..but art is not just enjoying your viewer is also personal development of your skill..so you're never wasting time. I think its also a bad thing to stay too attached to your art..dont make a "piece" every time, sometimes sketch or paint for the sake of it..just to get better and improve your shading, design or whatever.its those little exercizes that'll make a big difference next time you'll do a finished work!
when I'm at school, I always sketch and stuff, if u'd take a look in any random page in my books u'd see that half of it is full of monsters and abstract stuff and shit :P I'm kinda lazy when it comes to pieces though, but when I succeed I'm still proud even if noone sees it. "Waste of time" was maybe a bit rough, but I think what he's talking about is pretty obvious.
thats funny because when i was pushing myself months ago I had a heart murmur haha. Also, I just finally moved to a beautiful state and accomplished my goals... Yet my drawings are lacking more rather than being without a job and not being able to live right. Glad this is all universal. Time to brainwash myself
Thankyou!! That was so incredibly motivating! I have an art show coming up and Ive been putting off working on it because its summer, now I'm hard at work. This really helped.
its was great.iv already seen/heard it 3-4 times now..i hav no opptunity coming a i hav been so confused on what to do but i think i'l find a direction now.all i gotta do is b more decisive and stick on something i decide to do.i don lik my 3d day job but i think it'l b sad if i had to draw somethin whole day which i didnt wanted to. thanks for making me realise that :D
Yes u can have a day job and just do art for u. I enjoy my day job. I would hate 2b a prof.artist doing projects that don't appeal to me. I want 2feed my own soul w/o pressure 2 meet someone else's needs. I do need 2 get a laptop though, to squeeze in some drawing during free time at work. It's hard to find time on the family PC, with all the pressures & joys of family life. Any any suggestions for worthy syst specs for wrkng in PS and painter wud be appreciated. Bobby I love your work man!
This was a lovely thing to watch and I'm so glad my friend linked me to it. She tried to talk to me during it but I was far too busy being enlightened and encouraged. This is a huge booster to bring me closer to hopes and dreams and all sorts of other things that will be coming to me in the future.
Thank you for sharing all your inspiring words with us, the masses. It's really something that we, as both artists and people, don't hear often enough.
that was really inspirationsl...I now have at least 2 things that I'm actually going to do (I've been contemplating them for a while) just because. Why the hell not. Thankyou n_n
the whole part about losing motivation because of doing bad art at work... geez man you really hit the nail on the head. when i get home I don't even want to see a tablet pen. :(
I've watched every video you've put out on here, and they only get better. You could almost be a motivational speaker for a career, but of course that wouldn't be near as good as art.
Talking about the mental attitude everyone should have for all situations in life is such a great thing. It's so simple, but people often forget about going back to this type of knowledge. That's why these podcasts are a true inspiration.
I'm looking foward to see more of your videos and of course more of your stunning art.
"some of the most valuable things are intangible" I couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes I just sit there doing "nothing" but working through my brain and it's very annoying when, say, my parents think I should go out and "do" something. Ugh. But I know what I need to do to keep myself motivated, whether it's just a mental thing or going out and doing. You are a great speaker, thanks for sharing this.
Hey Bobby. Love the podcast as usual. Man, we all need to bring walki talkis on the subway with us, so you can whisper positive stuff while we subway sketch, haha.
Bobby you changed my life. Thank you!

Thanks for your good thoughts, its relly great stuff - both 2d and mentally ;) just relly interesting - to hear your thoughts - relly rare to find someone that can go deep in the thoughts around this "artistic life" and explane it, I think - thank you

Mr. Chiu, this video has changed my life. I need to stop fretting about my mom with her cancer and think about my future like she has been saying. For now on I'll try even harder with my art and will not wait for things but go out and make things happen. Thank you Mr.Chiu!

Hi Bobby, Im fan of your works,I believe the art from self-motivation and freedom is a open door to our minds!

Garfler 3 years ago
i know what you mean..but art is not just enjoying your viewer is also personal development of your skill..so you're never wasting time. I think its also a bad thing to stay too attached to your art..dont make a "piece" every time, sometimes sketch or paint for the sake of it..just to get better and improve your shading, design or whatever.its those little exercizes that'll make a big difference next time you'll do a finished work!
razielze 3 years ago
when I'm at school, I always sketch and stuff, if u'd take a look in any random page in my books u'd see that half of it is full of monsters and abstract stuff and shit :P I'm kinda lazy when it comes to pieces though, but when I succeed I'm still proud even if noone sees it.

Time to brainwash myself

its was great.iv already seen/heard it 3-4 times now..i hav no opptunity coming a i hav been so confused on what to do but i think i'l find a direction now.all i gotta do is b more decisive and stick on something i decide to do.i don lik my 3d day job but i think it'l b sad if i had to draw somethin whole day which i didnt wanted to. thanks for making me realise that :D
saint2craft 3 years ago

It's really something that we, as both artists and people, don't hear often enough.

the whole part about losing motivation because of doing bad art at work... geez man you really hit the nail on the head. when i get home I don't even want to see a tablet pen. :(
iscarechildren 3 years ago
I've watched every video you've put out on here, and they only get better. You could almost be a motivational speaker for a career, but of course that wouldn't be near as good as art.
DarkFaze 3 years ago
great work! You are a big inspiration to my artwork. I am MOTIVATED!!!

Just thank you Bobby!
Talking about the mental attitude everyone should have for all situations in life is such a great thing. It's so simple, but people often forget about going back to this type of knowledge. That's why these podcasts are a true inspiration.
I'm looking foward to see more of your videos and of course more of your stunning art.
Best regards from germany!
